    One photo says it all...

Bronswood Cemetery, once owned by the Clarke family, has turned into a sad joke. Bargain basement sale signs scattered throughout this beautiful cemetery last spring; dry brown Christmas wreaths still placed on headstones as of today, March 23, 2019, and management who continues to blame "the weather" as the reason they have not been removed (wait, what?) rather than tell the truth, which is that they only send their grounds staff out three times a year so they can swap out the 4-month old dead stuff with the new stuff (and if you're not paying attention, you may pay for new flowers but not get them). Don't even get me started on the three different ridiculous stories I got from management, plus two staff members, as to why my father's planter disappeared from his headstone and took six weeks to rectify... The passing of a family member is sad enough. But the disrespect shown by Stonemor Corporation is not only sad, but disgusting.

Compassionate Support When It Mattered Most…read more We cannot say enough about the care, kindness, and professionalism shown by Powell Funeral Directors, and especially Brian Powell Sr. and Brian Powell Jr., during one of the most difficult times our family has ever faced. From the very beginning, every interaction was handled with compassion, patience, and genuine respect. The team guided us through each step with clarity and sensitivity, never rushing us and always making sure our wishes were honored. Brian Powell Sr. and Brian Powell Jr. were always available when we had questions, offering thoughtful guidance and steady support that brought our family great comfort. During a time of deep grief, it was incredibly reassuring to know we were in such caring and capable hands. We are truly grateful for the dignity, empathy, and support they provided, and we would wholeheartedly recommend Powell Funeral Directors to any family in need of compassionate care. Brian has now handled the funeral arrangements for two close family members. In 2010, our family…read moreselected him for my mother's funeral. At that time he was the director for another area funeral home. Although I'm typically pretty organized, putting together a funeral when you are distraught can make details feel overwhelming. Thank goodness for Brian who stepped in and with great thoughtfulness and professionalism helped me navigate thru the process. He acted as liason with the church, ministers, cemetery, caterers, florists, newspapers (obits), death certificates, etc., and during the actual funeral day kept things running smoothly and on time (something you can hardly think about when you are in the middle of that situation). After the funeral he would occasionally stop and visit my elderly father who was very touched that Brian would check-in on him. So just a few months ago when my father passed away, there was no question in my mind who I wanted to handle the service. I was glad to discover he had become an independent funeral director (not tied to the previous funeral home we'd used as I was planning a church service) which allows him a lot of flexibility to organize any kind of service at nearly any location you want. However, after expressing some hesitation about the church, and telling him that I really wanted something that felt warmer and cozier (it was a winter funeral) Brian suggested I tour Adolf Funeral Home (Brian contracts use of their facility). The location was beautiful and exactly what I was looking for. Brian was extremely accommodating of a lot of small demands - everything from re-arranging the room to meet our needs, to bringing in additional furniture, to assisting with both live and recorded music, and juggling some last minute changes. Most importantly, he knew my father was a Navy veteran, and made all of the arrangements for my father to have a military burial. He knew exactly what papers I needed, and when I could not find those, took other papers we had and made multiple phone calls to just the right people to allow the military burial to still take place. When I was struggling with the right clothes to bury my father in, he and I talked thru ideas and he helped me make the final choices, as well as preparing the body, and allowing me to have final private time alone with my dad. When I was wavering on the florist he made a suggestion for another he thought would suit me better that turned out to be more than perfect (even the pastor who had done hundreds of funerals said they were the most beautiful flowers he'd ever seen. I couldn't have been happier with his suggestion!) Brian also intervened when issues arose with the cemetery, saving me a lot of grief and frustration. He also made great suggestions for caterers and restaurants for the viewing and dinner afterwards that were great. Brian is a very kind, gracious, unassuming, and humble soul, just the sort of trustworthy support you need during a time when you feel fragile and disjointed. The best thing about working with Brian is that he constantly watches the "bottom line" for you (something extremely rare in this business. Other funeral homes I contacted made me feel as if they couldn't wait to sell me another service or "upgrade" something for me. Brian was the opposite which was greatly appreciated). He was available by phone 24/7, and stayed on top of everything, making sure everything that needed to get done was accomplished. On the day of the funeral he greeted all my guests, helped with coats, flowers, candles, cars, and arranged a beautiful procession to the cemetery. I highly recommend his services.
