Very well organized bookstore and cheap! Obviously price varies depending on how popular the book you're interested in is. I saw books as low as $2 but some of the more popular closer to $8. In total I got 3 books for $13 and they were popular titles. There's 2 hour free street parking right outside and a courtyard you can stop and read your book in. I will be coming back. read more

What a Gem!!! My 8 year old has been reading up a storm lately. Getting cheap books here has been fantastic, lots of choices for a kid starting in on chapter books. My daughter enjoys graphic novels too, there's a small amount to choose from but they go fast I've been told. Tons of little kid books too. And most of the selection is for adults. Something for everyone. Added plus the proceeds go to the library. Shame on those complaining about the staff here. It's a non profit bookstore that is ran by volunteers. The store benefits a public library. That being said, I got a fabulous and effective service. And even if u had to wait 1 or 2 extra minutes for them to locate a book for u it's still well worth your time. read more

This Library Friends bookstore had probably the most amazing selection of any I've visited! They had a wonderful business / finance section and quite a few tech and startup focused works so we ended up getting quite a few more than expected. The service was super sweet and friendly and the space had a hand sanitizer dispenser. They also take credit cards and do have their own bags if you forgot to grab your reusable one ahead of time. All in all, Friends Corner Book Shop is a real gem, and we will definitely be returning! read more

I absolutely love this place. I'm confused by the reviews saying the prices are high, and this is by far the cheapest used bookstore around. This is a lovely spot. Its operated by volunteers who take the time to keep the shop open. The proceeds go to the library, the book store makes enough to keep the library open on Sundays. It has a garage sale feel, so if you want something specific you may not find it. I think its best enjoyed by going in with a general idea of a subject then keeping an open mind. Not many places like this around. My son wanted to get books on the Italian language, we found a few really nice books to get him started. If you have a heart, then you will get what's going on there. If you want the latest selection of books, then go to Barnes and noble. But if you want to go on a book treasure hunt, go in with a beginners mind and you will walk out with a bag of books and a smile!!! read more

I don't want to let you in on this secret spot because once the word is out then everyone will want in on it. Friends Corner Book Shop is simply amazing. It is connected to the Lafayette Library and is completely run by volunteers. Not only is it volunteer operated but they have some seriously amazing deals here. Most books are under $5. They have half off sales and the staff are friendly. Plus, the money they make goes to the pretty stellar library they have here. They also have a small but pretty decent selection of DVD's, computer programs and music. I spent $10 today and I got four CD's that are practically new and a book. You can bet I'll be back again. Also, bring a bag because you'll probably need it to carry the loot you find here. There are so many treasures and gems and if you have time to sift through it all, you can probably find something good here. read more

I love this little book shop. I just read some of the reviews and the bad ones are not reasonable. This is not a regular bookstore. The staff is probably volunteers and they do not have time to arrange books alphabetically or hunt through their shelves. Is it really that hard to look at the books? It is not a large store to sort through. I have found some lovely books at great prices. The staff is friendly and they keep the store tidy. I am glad they are there for all of us. Tired from our travels we just wanted a place to walk around and stopped here since we are a big fan of buying books. We walked in and thought the place was empty. Eventually we made eye contact with a lady sitting in the sun reading a book who told one of us to leave our backpack by the front door. We politely declined since said bag had a expensive laptop in it, hence why it was not left in the car. Said lady told us to leave it under a desk then. There were no signs posted of this and i doubt theres a written policy. Wonder what the legality of this is? Will they take full responsibility for my property should it be lost, stolen or damaged while in their care? I doubt it. Im pretty sure this falls under the 4th amendment which generally allows people to be free of unreasonable search and seizure of property. But we declined and decided to leave. Which is a shame since we really do love to read books, support local books store and since i was looking for gardening books in general, I was likely to buy something. Its odd especially since this really doesn't seem to be a bad area to have such a paranoid policy. read more

I hate to give a bad review but when I called this book store this morning I was hoping to receive much better customer serve. I asked if they had a book in stock and the woman who answered the phone told me she didn't know and I would have to come in to look for it. I said "ok" then called Orinda Books and received excellent customer service, the lady was helpful and delightful, found my book and I was in within the hour to pick it up. read more

Went to this book store yesterday to look for a children's book for a friend who is having a baby. The organization of the children's books was terrible. There were two ladies there working and I asked if they had the book that I was looking for and they pointed to the children's section but offered no help to me in trying to find it. Never going back to this place. Is horrible. read more

I always stumble on great "finds" at this fantastic indie book shop. Around Christmas, I found a kids' book on the history of dinosaurs which went to an out-of-state friend who was obsessed w/dino's as a kid -- he will either save until his baby is older or just memorize it himself. Then I found an art book about a particular genre I like -- signed by the artist -- and only $2. Since the stock is all donated by area residents, the titles change all the time. Wander the aisles and keep your eyes and mind open. read more

I had trouble finding the entrance (in the back of the Lafayette Library), but worth it! Got exactly what I wanted (foreign language dictionaries) virtually for free and the workers were super helpful. read more

Came in for short story compilations and there was a whole bookcase of them. All books were in nice condition and everything I selected was $2. They even had me pick out a CD album from a rack since I spent more than $5. read more
