The owner is super knowledgeable he answers a lot of hard questions. Some books are a little pricey but others are low so it averages out. We left with 5 books. One was signed by an author. Another was a book that goes for $100 online and we paid $25 so we will be adding to our collection. Definitely worth coming!

From the parking lot, the bookstore is on the left just inside the door, taking up a small nook. Don't let that fool you; there are plenty of books to be discovered in this treasure trove. Many fiction and non-fiction books are available here, with a smallish selection of children's and young adult books along the back. Most everything is $5 or less. My wife & I purchased 8 books here and paid $32 of everything. There is a parking lot next to the library, with a few spots available for library patrons for 30 minutes. Otherwise, you can pay for longer at the meters.

Unfortunately online stuff has put us in the situation where you can go into this bookstore and cover the whole place in around 15 minutes. I'm not paying 20 bucks for a book I'll read once that I can get a the library for free. Magazine prices are absurd. I did find a couple that were 8 bucks but most are over ten and usually more. And some of the books these days are upping their game with gorgeous covers and internal pages, well, that makes browsing and buying physical book more compelling than ever. Busy shopping center so while the parking lot is large, getting a spot at peak times may be a short walk to where you are headed. That said, this is a vibrant and living area. The bookstore benefits from that with many fellow book lovers seeking out their next loved story. What goes great with a new book? Coffee or tea! Maybe a treat as well. I love the book shop!…read more The hours are limited with I think longer days on Thursdays. I come here to donate books (drop off is in the underground parking garage) as well as buy books. They have a good selection of used books priced cheap! Love that they have a cheap books for me and my children. Kids books range from $0.25 to $2.00. Adults book start at $0.50. Every dollar I spend here benefits the library and their great community programs. The volunteers here are very gracious and helpful. If you can't find something, ask and they will check the backroom if there are volunteers working there. They have a big book sale once a month. I think it's on first Thursday of the month but pls call and check before coming here. The book sales are huge and they spread out all over the plaza by the coffee shop. They are open Mon-Sat 1pm-4pm, Thurs they are open later til 6pm. Closed on Sun.

Located on the right side, just before you enter the Orinda Library, the shop is an outpost for this volunteer non-profit organization dedicated to improving library services in Orinda. Via sales of donated books, they provide the library with new books, magazines, videos, etc. The little old ladies running the shop are sweet as can be, and apparently know my little 4 year old niece by name. Either she is a compulsive shopper-in-training, or a philanthropist-in-training. I would like to think it is the latter. Get the donor plaque ready : o ) They have a giant green cushie frog chair just big enough for a kid, where the munchkin can sit and peruse the wares before she buys. With the small library she has amassed at home, she better get a 1600 on her SATs.

The young woman behind the counter today was staring at her phone the entire time I was there. An older woman, who I assumed was an owner or manager, was talking energetically to two other women shopping when I walked in. She shot me a quick glance, then went back to talking to the two women. She shot one more quick glance before she went into the back room. No one said anything to me as I left. On a previous visit, I needed a calendar. Again, no greeting. When I went to purchase the calendar, the woman asked if I was part of their rewards program. (the most anyone ever has said in there) And when I replied no, she just wrung me up. No, "Would you like to enroll?" Someone gave me a gift card for the shop, but frankly, I can't see ever going back in again, so I'll regift it to someone who enjoys indifference.

My partner bought a Martinez shirt from them and let me tell you, the fabric is so soft. My friend bought a cute hair comb she has been looking for a while. They make all their designed there and are solely owned by the artist. This isn't your boring chachki store, but somewhere you can actually buy quality made goods. They had everything from clothing, candles, Taylor swift items, jewelry and so much more. The place was clean, the family that owns it is super sweet and can answer any questions. We talked to the owner Jenny for a little bit and she is the sweetest lady. She makes a lot of items she sells including patches for hats and ornaments for the holiday's. There's a whole section with Martinez merchandise, as well as candles, cards, clothes, hats, and stuff for kids. I enjoyed walking through the store and checking out everything. My friend bought some warm gloves and I got a pair of heart earrings for Valentine's Day. I'll be back to purchase her popular hand crafted Christmas ornament with a cat's backside and a snowflake covering it. This is a fun shop to check out!
