This is a nice park with great coastal views. Lots of parking, restrooms nearby and it's dog friendly. There's a trail nearby and the Korean Friendship Bell which is also a nice place to visit. I recently visited on a Sunday with beautiful weather and was surprised at how it was not that crowded. read more

Overdue review. THE EXPERIENCE: Came here for an nature event and it was everything! I'm a closet bird-nerd so this was SO much fun for me! I was super excited about seeing my favorite bird: The Hawk! When they showcased the different birds and got to my fav it was as if they were a celeb I was cheering and taking pics, lol. It was definitely a sight to see close up! (See some photos attached) This event also included a nature walk and folks could also tour the museum on sight. WOULD I RECOMMEND? WOULD I RETURN? Some people mix this park up with the Korean Bell of Friendship park a little further South. This park is high up and has an excellent view of LA, Long Beach, the mountains on a clear day and the surrounding area. And that's just from the parking lot level. Climb the hill from the front, if you have the lungs for it, its not an easy stroll, and you'll get an even better view. Or you can go around to the left from the parking lot and the trail isn't as steep and you'll still end up at the top. This is a nice park that not many people realize is here. Bring your camera. If the sky is clear you can get some excellent shots. Oh the backside, you have access to some good hiking trails. Get your workout on, if you like, or take it slow. I love the "Watch For Rattlesnakes" sign. read more

Friendship Park is definitely a location where you can get in a good hike. It's very pretty and peaceful. There seems to be a main trail going through the park, with other little trails and roads throughout. I'm not sure where they lead, but you could definitely do more exploring. I wouldn't walk through the brush. This place is very woodsy and there are all kinds of bugs, ticks, rodents, and snakes; yes, snakes. Some snakes come out and lay on the concrete, so they are truly there and I've seen a few fat ones. Ugh! I can only imagine what they must eat! Yuck! There are bathrooms and rest areas, but the cake is getting to the top and seeing the beautiful city and ocean views. The cool thing about this park is that it's located in the middle of the city, so you don't have to drive far to experience a little nature. There's ample parking, picnic and bbq areas before you get to the trail and recreation areas. You're even able to have parties up there. Go early in the morning or late in the afternoon, because it gets hot out there. read more

Never mind how spectacular the views are I was scared as crap driving up here in my car! The road was all open, like nothing but air Was between me and lower ground, a gazillion feet down there When I got to the top, I planned on never coming down 'Cause that road looked even scarier on the outside lane *big frown* Oddly, it didn't bother me much to walk around the grounds The place is 100 acres, it appears to have no bounds A big picnic area has views that are breathtaking But I had to stay away from the edge to keep my hands from shaking As I took the photos of the views, the camera was not steady I wondered how I'd ever get down, I'd had enough already But I went one level slightly higher, as long as I was there Figured I'd never be back again, not even on a dare The second level is a whole separate park: Bogdanovich Rec Center But you can use the road from Friendship Park to enter The Recreation Center is all about sports Baseball fields, soccer fields, basketball, & all sorts Of kids playground equipment. Kids were all around. And then I spotted my exit route, where I'd be safe and sound A second entrance to the park! The Force is with me still A different way down, a way to avoid that scary road on that hill The Rec Center entrance is on Cumbre Drive, number 1920 I was so glad to see that flat street, I gave thanks aplenty So....what a ride, I did survive, and next time I will know A more reasonable way to drive to the top, a way that doesn't blow But if you like heights, take the scary road - the views are really great Maybe now that I know what to expect, I too could appreciate But.....not in this lifetime, no problemo, I assure you I can wait In my future life as a hang gliding instructor, with heights I won't hesitate 16 photos, check 'em out, to get them took a lot It just proves I'll do any damn thing to nail a decent shot read more

This review is for a hike to Palos Verdes Beach. We started at the Deane Dana Nature Center and hiked down to the beach. The hike itself is not actually one designated trail, but sort of a mix of multiple trails put together. It was about 5 miles roundtrip. There was not much difficulty overall, but the last hill was tough. The trail is wide and smooth and is a mixture of dirt and pavement. Most of the way to PCH was downhill. Once we reached this point, we crossed the road and continued west toward the water. There were some inclines that were a bit steep, but for the most part the hike was pretty easy. This portion of the hike was along the cliff side overlooking the water. It was an overcast day, so the views were limited but still beautiful. There are multiple trails in this area and many ways to get to the beach. It would be difficult to get lost. Once we may our way down to the beach, we noticed the golden sand and a rocky area with crashing waves. It was very picturesque. The hike back was very pleasant, until reaching the very last hill near the Nature Center. This is a monstrous thing that is pretty steep. Although tough, it was a nice, lower body workout parking - free parking at the Nature Center tip - spend a few minutes inside the Nature Center. This is a large park with plenty of space to roam. You will find bathroom facilities, swings, and all the park amenities you might expect. We tend to enter the park from the far outskirts which back up into Rancho Palos Verdes. We enter where the sudo dog park is, this is much less crowded and a great place to fly a kite, kick a ball around, or even ride a bike. read more

I went looking for a place to go for a run that wasn't too far from my house. At first, I first went to Averill park and realized that the park was more for a stroll than for running. Friendship park is about 1/2 a mile from Averill park and it is definitely meant for runners and bikers. There are a lot of hills and a lot of trails. There are signs saying to keep away from the vegetation because they are trying to restore the natural habitat. There are other signs also saying to beware of the rattlesnakes :P This place has a playground, soccer field, baseball field, GORGEOUS view of San Pedro. Beautiful place to run, however it is a bit of a short run, hitting most of the trails, I got in about 3 miles total, I'd definitely go again because of the view. It is open from dawn to dusk. read more

This park is a gem in San Pedro. Soccer Fields, Play Ground, Basket Ball Gym, Baseball Fields adgacent at Bogdonovich Park. Nature Center and Small Playground and BBQ Area in Friendship Park. Excellent walking trails or as us Californians like to say "hikeing trails." You can start at the bottom of Nineth and Western and walk all the way up to PV Drive through the Park. An excellent hike up to the top but be on the lookout for snakes as they like to bask in the sun in the trails. Great play area for kids as well as baseball fields. This was a great spot to do my first 4 dog photo shoot! The dogs are allowed to run unleashed and there is plenty of room for them exercise. The views are also amazing backgrounds for a shoot either Catalina and the ocean or there is a gorgeous harbor view. We went on a Sunday and it was not crowded at all and we didn't have any trouble finding (free) street parking. read more

Dog heaven. Great views of LA harbor and Catalina Island. Some steep hills with sweeping vistas. Lots of trails and you can have some privacy cause it's so big. I usually park on the PV side where it is free but hard to find the entrance. Probably easier to approach through San Pedro where there is a large lot. Near Bogdonavich Nature Center. Watch out for rattlesnakes. There is a class you can take with your dog if you worry about him getting bitten by a snake. read more

Best accidental find I've ever made! My husband and I were in the states visiting my family in Corona for the holidays. I hate Corona and leap at any chance to go back to my old stomping grounds. We decided to visit some friends in the South Bay so we made the drive out. As we were driving around I spotted a sign that said, "Friendship Park". I thought it looked like a nice and 'friendly' place to hang out before heading to my friend's house. This views from the top of the hill are beyond fantastic! It was a super clear day so we could see everything, even making out the Hollywood sign! Luckily I had my camera handy so many many many photos were taken. Catalina was clearly visible as were some cruise ships in the harbor. This park is gorgeous. I imagine spending a summer day having a picnic here would be great! Definitely will be coming back next time we're in town again!! read more

I went to this park for the first time this past weekend for a birthday party. You drive up the hill for about half a mile and boy are you rewarded! The view from the park is spectacular! You get a 180 degree view of San Pedro, the bridge, the docks, the ocean, and probably Downtown LA and Catalina Island on a clear day. The playstructure is WONDERFUL; the best I've seen anywhere and I've been to quite a few with my two year old son. They also have a nature center that is open seven days a week that features various live animals and other educational goodies. They also have hiking trails, which we haven't tried yet. I just read the previous review and the drive up was not scary at all. read more

I used to live just down the street from this place and sneak in under the fence when it was closed at night. ;-D I'm not advocating that, of course! In fact, that was and would be wrong... Anyway, this is a cool spot. Great for kite flying as it is always windy up there. Great view of the ocean, and bring your basketball if you want to shoot some hoops in a cool location. Love the views! And, to bring my dogs for a short hike. There are rattlesnakes, gophers, hawks, used to see a pair of owls and 3 coyotes, but I think they've been removed (the coyotes and some of the gophers), with that in mind recommend being especially vigilant with little kids and dogs. Year round it's great. Summertime is when you have to beware of rattlesnakes the most. read more

This is a very large park with profound views of the South Bay. I attended a function for an Amateur Radio contest and had a difficult time locating the large event due to the expansive and varied landscape. Ample parking, easy access, magnificent open spaces, children's play areas, picnic locations, and overall beautiful experience of nature. High recommend. read more

This park is located just passed the BOGDANOVICH Recreational Center. *FUN FACT* Did you know Martin J. Bogdanovich was the founder of StarKist Tuna...The Rec Center was funded from the Bogdanovich family for the people of San Pedro...The Friendship Park was very clean and maintained. You have a good view while you are at the park. I think it's another good spot while you're out in the San Pedro area to relax and unwind. There is a view of the ocean. I noticed a few road kill before I entered the park...It was a couple of skunks in the road...i guess there is a lot of wildlife in the area...I also remember seeing a sign at the Bogdanovich Rec Center, warning of rattlesnakes...Nevertheless I think this park was very nice for the family...There is also a basketball court there too....The Korean Friendship Bell is also nearby...Now that's a spot for BLUE OCEAN VIEWS...and a great place to fly your favorite kites.... read more
