We visited today and it took over 30 minutes to get our food. We had to flag a waitress down in order to take our order. She wasn't very friendly once she did come to our table. Plus I had to wash our own table off. We have been many times and the service appears to be getting worse each time we go. The people beside us ordered their food to go and it took just as long. Great country eatery on the outskirts of Vernon. Our friend found this place and we figured we had to come and try it for ourselves. Picturesque, great balcony with a Sunday brunch buffet. What else could you want on a nice summer morning with a cool breeze at your back? Add good company of good friends and you've got something reminiscent of a Norman Rockwell painting. Something wholesome, fresh, but familiar and friendly. Like comfort food that's healthy. Hmmmmmmm. I did see they had jams and fresh baked breads and people were dropping in to buy pies and farm fresh veggies. We came here for breakfast. For me, I had the combo where you can choose your own combination of bread, eggs, sausages, pancakes, fruit etc. It was hearty and wholesome. This place always has rave reviews and I don't get it. I think people like the charm of it being on a farm. The food itself is mediocre, the buffet is nothing special. If you are going to check the buffet out go when they open because the food sits there and it's lukewarm when you get it later on in the day. The place itself could use a good scrub down and refresh. They also sell local baked goods like break, some produce, some canning but prices aren't any cheaper then you would expect anywhere else.We go because it's convenient to our home but there are better places in town. My advice is try it out once and that will probably be enough for you. read more

My wife and I used to come here all the time and LOVED it; in fact we had our first date here. The last couple of visits however have been far from the expectation set by those past experiences. Previously, we got home with a package of ginger cookies that were clearly stale. Despite that issue, we gave them another shot today. Driving all the way out here and paying a 50% premium over other local breakfast spots, you expect the FARM FRESH theme to be everywhere, especially the food. This is not the case anymore. Most of the elements on our plates, (toast, cinnamon bun, French toast) all tasted like they were a couple days past best before date; stale and tasteless. Additionally, the place is now incredibly dirty inside. One look at the floors, door jams and flies buzzing about should have sent us running. In hindsight, I cringe with thoughts of Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares floating through my head. We really used to love this place, but will probably never return. Too bad. read more

This is the only place that I will go to in the Vernon area for breakfast because it really is that great! The best pancakes I have ever had by far. Organic, fair trade coffee. Love that they have artwork on display from local artists. They have a little store area where you can buy their homemade juices, preserves, pies, sauces, etc. I live in Vancouver, but whenever I am in Vernon, I do not miss having a meal here. Don't waste your time, or your money. This has to be the all time worst food I have ever eaten, and that goes for the other three people I was with. My mom order cabbage rolls, I so wished I had taken a picture, two of them, looked like burnt cigars and about the same size. They were delivered, explained that they were good, just that that ran out of the dish they were supposed to be in, put on a plate and forgotten in the oven. She did return them, got a Reuben. Well, I have never ordered a Reuben and it had mayo on it instead of mustard. Another lady ordered a Monte Cristo, as bad, flavorless. The other ordered soup. She said it was good. I ordered a cheese omelette. I ate it, marginal. Bought a loaf off bread and some preserves before we ate, I wished I hadn't of spent one more dime in that place. Terrible. read more

Friesen's is where you want to come if you want basic country fare done very well. Freshly made bread, homemade jams and pastry. The coffee is just average but I don't think eggs,bacon and toast can really get much better! I've always enjoyed the homey atmosphere here. Definitely recommend. read more

This place is Vernon hospitality in a nutshell. You'll find couples stopping in after a hike or a long bike-ride; girls meeting for mid-week coffee; families out on the weekend....Cozy, happy, home-like country atmosphere with friendly staff, and scrumptious home-cooking. Went here today with two friends. We arrived at 11:05 and cashier said they stopped serving breakfast at 11:00, so we went to walk out and a staff member (?owner) stopped us and said of course she would still make us breakfast. Yay! Turned out to be a wonderful breakfast! Food was good quality and tasted great. I had the Eggs Benedict and it was served on a delicious light fluffy cheese scone instead of the usual English muffin. A tiny bit pricy, but I would definitely come here again. The staff was efficient and really friendly. Would love to go in the summer and sit out in the courtyard! read more

Accidentally stumbled across this place...and glad we did! The food was good, the people who work there are very friendly. The only downside is that it is VERY busy, so if you go in just to buy something from the bakery area you have to wait in line with the people who are also ordering their meals, can make for a little wait...but worth it! read more

Terrible food and service. This place is living off and old reputation. Me and my 3 kids had dirthday breakfast. Pancakes for them and a breakfast bagel for me. Drinks and 2 sides of bacon (3 pieces for $5, ouch). Total bill was $50. Pancakes looked fine but that's pretty simple. The breakfast bagel was old the egg in it was tough and the potatoes were really greasy and luke warm. My daughter spilled her water so they left us a ratty old kitchen cloth to clean up. Did I eat my meal...yes I choked most of it down because I am a parent and we don't waste food. If I could give negative stars I would. This meal couldn't be more simple to make and it was terrible. read more

Not super happy with our meals today. Hubbie ordered a Turkey Club and received some toasted bread with burnt bacon and processed turkey slices and some carrots on the side...for $12....my Eggs Benny was OK but the hash browns were potatoe slices that were previously cooked and then warmed up in a deep fryer for $14. The theme of today's breakfast: served cold. We ordered three eggs benedicts and three standard egg, bacon, hash brown with toast meals. First, the egg benedicts and hash browns were cold and though they came on a tasty biscuit, the paper thin ham layer and bright yellow, flavourless, from a mix hollandaise sauce made these close to the worst eggs Benedict we have ever eaten. The rest of the meal was meh. Cold toast where the thick layer of MARGARINE was not melted. Cheap bacon. Even the baked goods are made with fake chocolate and margarine. Went for Sunday Brunch, not too impressed. Not much of a variety and they cooked your eggs at end of line, food from buffet got cold or you ate it while eggs cooking. Sadly, the freshness and cleanliness of this once fabulous establishment has declined. Bought baked goods a few weeks back and was disappointed to get them home and find them stale. I think the cookies had actually been previously frozen. Today more stale bread and they admitted to serving me day-old cinnamon buns at breakfast. Man, their food used to rock! And I used to LOVE their brunch, it was worth every calorie. I never minded the drive out from town or paying a little more than other little diners and bakeries, but now, I'm not sure I'll be back. They used to be the best place in town for brunch but I've been a couple times now in 2014 and found the brunch over priced and disappointing. I don't think I would go back. We went for new years day brunch and it was $20 a plate, all the food was cold, and the bacon and sausages were the cheapest kind you could find. They used to have farmers sausage, and everything home made and high end. One man at the table next to us even sent an entire plate of food back to the kitchen and chose something else because his meal was cold. Cute store with lots of homemade goods, but I think new owners have taken it over and it the brunch is not what it used to be. read more

I used to love coming here for brunch as a kid. I brought my daughter, Granny, and Dad for lunch recently. I was so disappointed. The place was filthy! The garden completely overgrown and abandoned. The tables and chairs needed to be cleaned or just replaced. The floor was dirty. Dust everywhere. I couldn't belive how far downhill the once beautiful and magical country restaurant had gone. I will never recommend to anyone. read more
