Part of that has been finding people who truly know how to cut curly hair (most cosmetology schools do not teach this). Enter Chez Soi 1912. A curly salon! All of the stylists are curly trained. I saw Jocelyn who is Deva certified. The salon also cooperates with the local Curl Warehouse which is another fab resource. CS 1912 is in a gorgeous heritage house. I was able to get in quickly when I made the appointment and was shocked how little time it took to get to the Cochrane from N. Calgary. I think it might be faster to get here than it was to get to my previous salon downtown. Jocelyn took ample time to let me talk about my hair, ask me questions and outline what the plan would be. I could clearly see a definite shape taking place that corresponded with that, as she cut. She patiently walked me through products and styling (introduced me to the first brush that truly detangles painlessly!!) but I also did not feel pressured to purchase. There was a handicap access ramp at the back of the house for anyone needing it. I can't highly recommend this salon enough. When I came home, I began to notice just how poor of a job she did... My layers were TOO SHORT at the back, CHOPPY and NOT BLENDED, and ONLY ON ONE SIDE! A nightmare - I called the OWNER the next day telling her about my experience - humiliating - and she insisted that she "needs to see the cut to determine if it's actually a bad haircut" Very unprofessional, inexperienced stylist, very poor management. I requested that I receive a refund (only $42 - you get what you pay for) and was told by the owner that she "doesn't know how to process it" and that SHE HERSELF needs to deem it a bad haircut - this salon does NOT care about the client's opinion. In 8 years of experience in the retail industry and a business degree, it's not beyond me to understand that a $42 dollar refund is a small price to pay to correct the situation and not lose potential clients because in this day and age EVERYONE scopes out reviews prior to trying a new salon or service. Please don't make the same mistake I did. Update - June 5, 2013 I would just like to confirm the below comment from the owner, stating that she offered me a refund after having seen the photograth - due to out of town work commitments I was unable to step into the salon in person to receive a refund, and did not feel the urgency since I had it fixed by another stylist at the time. Sincere apologies for not having updated my review after having spoken to Rebekah immediately. Once again, I very much appreciated the way she remedied the situation. Even more honestly, I think I may have been less inclined to receive my refund after being treated like a human being - with respect and empathy. Having said that, and with an understanding of the commitment and attachment an owner is bound to experience towards their business, I respectfully caution Sublime Management against attempting to discount sincere and legitimate critiques as dishonest and slanderous. I went in that same day and Rebekah greeted me and apoligized many times. She sat me down and did an AMAZING job on my nails.. She did what originally i had wanted done. Also at the end gave me some tips and tricks on how to care for them.. I am more then satisfied with Sublime and will be going back for all my salon needs.. They looked awful and the shape was completely changed. Recently I decided I would go to them again for brows as I love the manicures they give and this time I went to the crowfoot location and AGAIN they messed them up so bad. The aesthetician kept mentioning their closing time. As a result, I actually was burned by the wax and still have residual hair that wasn't removed. I followed the directions for "after Brazilian waxing, care" and was so uncomfortable last night that I could barely sleep. This morning I am broken out, bruised and scabbing and so so unhappy. I have NEVER had this experience there before but I don't think I could ever go back
