I have two friends who live at Stockel and they rave about the Saturday markets held in the square…read more So after being in Belgium almost two years, I finally bite the bullet, forego my normal Saturday sleep-in and decide to get on the Metro on a rainy and wet March, to haul ass to to these markets with the excuse of getting a waffle and hot chocolate with my friends. I made it to the markets at around 11:40 (40mins later than planned!!!) and was instantly entranced. There were 3 cheese stores (one sold goat cheese with charcoal, amazing taste!), a Cornish pasty food truck, tons of fruit and veg and flower shops, a honey shop, an amazing charcuterie shop which sold beautiful smoked ham and salami, two different waffle food trucks (I tried both- the big waffle store has sugar cubes and is more traditional but I preferred the small waffle food truck, their dough was heartier, more non-traditional) and also a farm shop selling milk, eggs, butter, yogurt and cheese. I was in foodie heaven, my senses reveling in the sights, sounds and aromas of the market. I loved it and am gonna try and go here at least once a month starting from now.

Prices are obviously higher than in the big supermarket in centre town, that is why 4 and not 5 stars, but it has a very large variety, many un-missable Japanese products and it is a nice place where to sit down, read a book or meet with a friend, in a relaxed atmosphere, having a beer and eating some sushi, a curry or other japanese food, inexpensive compared to other place in the area. They seem to think I don't understand Japanese, but I do and it makes me very uncomfortable. Other people who don't understand Japanese should be warned.

This is a subsidiary of Cora so you can find Cora products here. Most everything is pretty fresh and the meat and fish are good. They often have good deals on wine bottles and cases. I do most of my beer shopping here because they have a wide selection. Overall, not the "best" per se, but definitely a decent market for everyday shopping.

There is an excellent choice of meat and fish dishes, kids platters and even hamburgers. We ordered Jambonneau (enormous piece of meat and delicious), tuna steak and also a contrefilet d'Angus beef Irlandais steak. All dishes are big and very tasty. We paid in average €25,8 per adult (excluding kids dishes) for a soup+main+wine WITH thefork reduction and €40,2 excluding reduction. I think prices are just a little bit overpriced but also the clientele seem to have the means (older average age) thus maybe less sensitive to price. Still reasonable price quality.
