I have lived in the loop lofts building for the past 2 years going on my 3rd year. We chose the apartment due to its location. Close to forest park, the loop, a delmar metro stop, and located close to my work. The building is kept up pretty well although there is always room for improvement, however overall it has been a decent place to live. I have been living at Lindell Towers East for about three months now. Thus far I have been locked out of apartment for an extended period of time during regular business hours while the leasing office was inexplicably closed, been threatened with fines over a clerical error in the office, and been repeatedly turned away when I attempt to pick up packages delivered to the main office (can't pick them up between 1:00pm and 6:00pm, wtf?). Some excerpts from the property manager's response to my complaint letter: "It's the same if you had a package at USPS, UPS or FedEx and it was after hours. Are they denying you privilege or access to your property? Also, if you were on SLUs campus, they have extremely limited package hours." "The staff is not here to help you at your convenience." All I have to say is that these people don't care a lick about you once you sign the contract. Keep in mind that this happened during normal business hours, and there were multiple desk clerks available to walk the ten feet down the hall to the mail room. Unbelievable. Front Door is my leasing company. The feedback that I can provide is positive. When I fill out a maintenance request, it is usually addressed by the next business day. The testimonial that I can provide is also positive. One time, I requested that they fix the workout equipment in our building. It was fixed. All I had to do was fill out the request online. It truly was that easy. My recommendation, much like my feedback and testimonial, is also positive. I recommend selecting Front Door as your leasing company if you enjoy prompt maintenance and comfortable living. In addition to the aforementioned positive feedback, they paint our lobby about once a year. It keeps it nice. On occasion, water accumulates in the basement near the workout room after a strong St. Louis summer rain. The maintenance team will address the standing water, and also places a bright orange traffic cone near the damp floor to alert tenants to the potential hazard. This is yet another testimonial to the diligence of Front Door's maintenance team. Finally, by living at Front Door, you will be provided with a bright orange access card. Carrying it around while socializing will foster numerous conversations with other bright orange card wielding tenants such as, "Do you also live at Front Door?" or "Front Door, eh?" or "Front Door!" Review foe FrontdoorSTL: Chouteau Lofts. Chouteau Lofts is nice! Neighborhood is safe: cameras, near a police station, officers on foot/bike a few times a week. Rent is decent since utilities are fairly low. The tenants range from grad students, 9 to 5ers, couples, black, white, etc etc etc. Cons: Secured parking gate sometimes breaks. You have to pay $7 per lightbulb if they blow out. Sometimes neighbors don't pick up their dog crap. Front desk attendants can be ANNOYING, most times cant answer my questions so I have to callback another day hoping to get another person. And again....the front desk associates are basically terrible but nice....if that makes any sense. lol Pros: Maintenance is really nice and quick but don't always do a PERFECT job. Office open 24 hours. Inexpensive utilities. Rent is $700ish +$50/utility bill. Secured parking is only a one time $50 deposit. Police officers are out riding bikes 3-4 times per week. Very eclectic neighborhood. I have lived here 2 years. I dont see a real reason to move due to paying less than $800/month total for all household expenses. People just need to do research and not expect 5 star hotel treatment when they're renting...you've got to be more realistic. Students renting "student" based apartments definitely shouldn't complain...I mean you're basically living in a dorm....noise and late nights are expected lol I think most of the bad reviews were from people who live in the more "college" based apartments. It would make sense that those apartments are run more like dorms/frat houses. Try an apartment in a more traditional neighborhood and also ask what the demographics for the bulding(s) are.. read more

Is it possible to leave less than half a star as a Yelp review? For your consideration on how poor the management is, I submit a fairly recent email regarding a gate that had been broken for the better part of a year. Not only has this lead to car break ins from neighbors, but also made my girlfriend and I feel unsafe in a less than reputable neighborhood. Instead of attending to the gate issue promptly, and correctly, they cycled between cheap fixes lasting only a few days to ignoring their tenants. Then, instead of acknowledging the rougher neighborhood and possibility that someone else broke the already broken gate, they broke down and finally did something about it. After blaming the residents (most of them professionals or professional students - not high school students - mind you). Emphasis and commentary my own. From Chris Caskey-Dougherty, Property Manager: "It has come to our attention that the walk-through gate is not locking again. This is obviously a recurring problem because it was repaired last week and has been broken again. It was repaired two weeks before that as well. However, the reason it continues to break is not because of faulty equipment, but from misuse. The door is not designed to be kicked open or slammed into when leaving because someone doesn't want to exit the door properly. It is not designed to be jarred continuously until it breaks just because someone doesn't want to take the time to use the door correctly.-----You know, like when someone is breaking in to something. It breaks.---- Some of you may argue that if a tenant here can break it open, what is preventing a thief from doing the same. However, history shows that a thief is going to take the path of least resistance. If the door isn't opening with just one try, he or she will just move on to a door that does. It is the same a criminal walking a busy parking lot testing door handles. The criminal doesn't break into the vehicle with locked doors (unless the owner has left something worth taking in plain view), but continues until an unlocked car is found.----Or kick a flimsy gate until he/she can break in to test this unlocked car theory. Go into the leasing office and no one looks up to help, and when they do, they act like you are a bother. Feel bad for them and know that at least you can do better than this - it would be one thing if they were just unhelpful, the paternalistic and rude tone you get anymore? Really not worth your money. Moving to the Grove next year and be rest assured we'll be looking elsewhere for property management too. Trust the bad reviews - wonder why so many sound the same from 2014? To many complaints of ripping people off, for properties that more and more aren't worth it anymore. To people still living there - don't take the bait to write a good review for a measly fifty bucks. You'll pay for it later. Your soul is worth more than (less than) 5% of one month's rent. My wife and I have lived in the Loop Lofts Apartments from Front Door for the past two years. We enjoyed our first year so much that we chose to renew our lease. The appliances are modern, and the open layout of the floor plan is accommodating. The maintenance staff does a great job of responding to issues within 24 hours, and everything has always been taken care of when asked. Our wash machine busted and was fixed the very next day. It is also very pet-friendly, and we feel safe living here. Overall, we would recommend this apartment complex to anyone looking for a reasonably priced apartment in the city of Saint Louis close to Forest Park. read more

I've lived looploft for 3 years (as WashU student) and had lots of things to complain about them. Even though people found thousands of reasons why you should not rent from Frontdoor, they missed something that I've experienced. So, I'll attach it. I was out of town after my end of lease. So' I asked them to send a deposit check to my friend's office to pick by myself after that. Two (maybe three) weeks after the date that they sent me (actually to my friend's office) the check, we didn't recieve anything from them. So, I visited their office and asked whether I can get any delivery information that track down check. They said no, they don't have any tracking number or reciept for mailing. So I asked that then how can I believe that whether you send me a check or not. They said, believe or not they sent me the check and I have to be patient until I get it. I asked that it seemed to be missed during the delivery since it has been two (or more) weeks. They said that it's my problem and anyway they have no responsibility since they sent the check (really?). So, I asked about in case missing mail, how can I get the check? They said just wait (really?) or pay another $35 to reissue the check and it will takes a few more days. Haha. Believe it or not, it's the true story that I had. At that moment, I was really thinking about hiring lawyer to complain about that. Anyway, I didn't wanted to argue and spend the time with them so that I paid $35 even though I take no responsibility. Guys, please don't be cheated from them. You can find another good option around WashU and SLU. read more

Front Door STL is dishonest at best and predatory at worst. We were shown several apartments and told they were available and to submit applications. After submitting applications and paying the associated fee, we were told that the units we were shown was not available. DON"T RENT HERE!! Frontdoor owns many apartments around SLU including the Coronado, Lindell East/West, Moolah, and the Vandeventer apartments. I know SLU students feel they are obligated to rent here. But please check out other properties around SLU. I recently went to pick up a very important package for a class. And they wouldn't let me pick it up because someone had not logged it in into the system, and therefore had to turn in the assignment late and beg my teacher not to give me a 0. The properties are incredibly over priced considering the quality, amenities, and service you receive. The leasing office stops caring about you, about a day after you move in. They will nickel and dime you to death it (it cost me $24 to switch 4 light bulbs). I cannot stress enough to not rent here. I heard the apartments down by Arby's are nice and decently priced. read more

This is literally the worst place I ever rented from. Their workers are dishonest and will not work with you an inch. The property I was in looks nice, and is really eye-catching, but once we moved in, we realized we could hear everything our neighbor said and did. Like, we heard about her boy drama and what she was wearing, heard her blow-dry her hair, heard her many phone calls on speaker phone and we can list some of the movies and music she listened to because they sounded like they were in our apartment. Come to find out, there is literally a hole in our apartment wall--if i had a ladder, I could see into her apartment. When looking for an apartment I was plased to find an apartment that had a gym, washer/dryer in the unit, internet, and all inclusive rent for $1250. I was sadly mistaken and was unprepared for the ridiculousness I was aabout to be put through. I was placed on the reserve list for $250.00 non-refundable fee, but was assured by the staf that there would be an apartment available for my move-in date. I had not heard anything back from the leasing office other than my appliccation was accepted and that they wowuld call to offer me a unit when they reached my name on the reserve list. My move-in date was approaching in 7 weeks or so and I wanted to know if I needed to find another apartment elsewhere. I called the leasing office and I was offered a unit only to be called back 5 minutes after our conversation ended to be told that the apartment was signed for. I was then told that there would be another unit that I could be offered in 2-3 days and was instructed to call back. When I called 3 days later I was informed by another individual that the apartment was offered to someone else and my name was "towards the end of the list". Two weeks later I received a call from a different individual stating that I would receive an offer the next day (the same unit I was told about before that had been offered to someone else and apparently 4 other people). I called back the next day and spoke to another person that had no idea what she was talking about and had absolutely no knowledge about what I was talking about and was told that I could view the unit and if I wanted it I could call the next day and sign for the unit if I wanted it. I went and viewed the apartment and spoke to a few of the tenants and was told 1.It's too noisy and the walls are thin, 2. the 24 hour maintenance is not really 24 hours, 3. The rent is all inclusive but the internet sucks and if you want better internet you have to pay extra, 4. The staff is unprofessional (which I have witnessed first hand), 5. Maintenance takes forever 6. Property manager either doesn't know or doesn't care about the tenants and just wants your money; was basically the census of th e entire group of tenents I spokle with. Since my viewing I contacted the office three times only to be told that I would have my call returned. Its been 2 weeks and I havs found another apartment. Not to mention I saw the same apartment being advertised on craigslist multiple times in a month's time (why do you need a reservation list and wait list if you are going to advertise it on craigslist). Overall the apartments are very nice the grounds are well-kept. But from my experience the staff are unprofessional, unknowledgeable, and very shady. Every time I spoke with someone they never had an answer, gave me a bs answer, and they never knew what they were talking about. For example I was instructed by one of them to call Chris Caskey, when I did that he wouldn't come to the phone and I was stuck talking to another individual that didn't know anything. I don't blame the staff I blame the management company. I don't know if it's a communication problem amongst the staff and management but thier managing skills are horrible. I'm glad I only spent $250.00 with these peolpe. I feel bad for their current tenants, the headache I got from them attempting to be a tenant was ridiculous I could only imagine what their tenants go through. If I were you I would set my sights on another apartment this place and FrontdoorSTL Leasing company are definitely not the ideal choice. read more

I also wish I could give this company zero stars because one is being too generous. Better hope you don't have street parking because "it's not their problem" if you get a parking ticket everyday since they don't provide parking. Key card access is the worst problem I have ever had. $25 every time for another key or they will charge you $10 just do open your apartment (usually 30min to an hour later) so it's a good thing the doors automatically lock.... Another great feature is how when it gets cold they might not even work. Again I was told 30 minutes and somebody might come. At least it was only 3 degrees that day being locked out WITH A KEY. Terrible management. A joke of a company. Was a snow storm and my neighbors apartment was pouring water from the ceiling and walls and because of the snow weight and they said "it's not an emergency so wait till tomorrow". At least her ceiling didn't cave in, not that it is their concern obviously. Worst place I have ever lived. I've been here 4 months and already trying to escape from my lease which is almost impossible to get out of but they don't tell you that.Also don't ever pay rent in advance because they will tell you there is "no way to return it once it's processed" which is also a lie because if you actually can escape your lease and somebody else moves in they will send you the remaining credit. Lie after lie after lie! I can't stress enough how I should have read the reviews before even considering this place. DO NOT MOVE HERE!!!! read more

I was surprised to see some of the reviews for Front Door Leasing, as my experience has been slightly better than a few of these folks. First, they are a nice little company with some great spaces. Ours has worked out well for us. Each person is different however. But I will tell you, that I suffer from OCD (literally, not figuratively) and I have pretty high standards, if that gives you an idea of my requirements. First the positive items, maintenance issues have always been handled expeditiously. And aside from a couple of minor ticks, they fix things right away and generally the first time out. The management has been very receptive to my gardening, which has improved the overall look of the yard and building. However, I realize that this is a different type of building, as it a duplex all unto itself, unlike the multi-unit buildings that most of their properties are. They, by way of their renovations of the Grove neighborhood, has vastly improved the quality of this enclave. Second, the criticism I would make are that the lawn has been burned up by extreme temps, but the maintenance company has done little to improve the quality of it since. It is for the most part nothing but large weeds growing now and it looks a bit shabby. And with a few outstanding items such as ventilation duct cleaning and a fresh coat of paint (I've been a tenant for 5 years), I truly have no real complaints. I will tell you though I did request the ability to place my 2 mountain bikes in the completely empty basement area for storage to protect them from their exposure on the deck outdoors. They wouldn't let me, and I gave one away and have the other "store" in an extra closet area -- tres tacky. But I understood that they have rules, but I'm 50 y/o and very responsible. I was a bit put off by that. However, I believe that overall, it is a very good company to lease with and that if you're not a nuisance and are responsible with your space, you will have no issues. I feel comfortable recommending them to a friend from my experience and hope this helps someone new. But overall, the property was clean and in very good order. Laundry in unit is also a plus, as there are no facilities in the immediate area. This is a legitimate review too -- not fake, as one blogger indicated of these reviews. read more

As a student living in two different FrontDoor properties over the course of three years, I can attest to the company's flexibility in assisting its tenants. Even though there was a miscommunication regarding our move-in date from one property to the next, the FrontDoor leasing staff ensured that we had an apartment in which to live during our interim between properties. Our utilities were covered, our rent was pro-rated, & we were provided with a moving team to help get us from our apartment in Lindell Towers to our new apartment in the Motorworks complex. The Motorworks property has absolutely beautiful apartments, recently renovated! Mandi is WONDERFUL - easily the most helpful member of the leasing staff! I would encourage any future tenants to request her as their primary contact. Also, the maintenance staff has been so helpful in fixing anything & everything we've requested over the past three years - definitely another strong point to this company! read more

I have been here for about a month and I have had nothing but trouble. I guess I should of guessed that this company was poorly managed when I set up an appointment to see two apartments and they grouped me together with other people looking and I had to look at two more apartments that I was not interested in . Also the person showing them had no clue about prices or where things were in the apartment.However I fell in love with the apartment and location. My first rent bill I got had two random charges dated before I moved in. When I called to get this fixed the guy that usually answer the phone has absolutely no answers to any questions he always puts you on hold no matter what you ask him , then he argued and was rude to me and said he didn't see what I was talking about. I also had some problems with maintenance coming because I work day and night shift as a RN so I asked to be called before. They call you maybe 30mins before hand but will not work with you at all, I just had to cancel friends coming to my apartment which has been planned because they would not reschedule working on something in apartment that I didn't complain about they just decided it had to be fixed today. Maintenance has always been friendly and hard working but dealing with the front desk is just awful. This will be my last apartment with them , the good price is not worth dealing with there office staff. read more

I am only giving them a star because i have to, i would much rather give them zero as they deserve it. NEVER ever live in their apartments. They promise "all inclusive" of everything but yet the internet NEVER EVER works. It is impossible to do anything on the internet inside your apartment. It literally takes 5 hours to watch a 30 second video on youtube. The dishwasher in my apartment which is also part of the "all-inclusive" rent, does not work either. Air conditioning unit also breaks down & some do not allow you to change the temperature higher than 75 and lower than 70. & when all this happens don't bother calling & filing a complaint because NOTHING will be done about it. The staff in the office are the most UNEDUCATED and rude people i have ever met and do not help at all. The maintenance crew does not speak english. They also tell you wrong information, for example, when I asked them if the "all-Inclusive" telephone included long distance calls, they said yes, the next month I got charged 50 dolllars for them. The rent is WAY over priced and you think it includes everything but it does not and you are getting ripped off A LOT. Also Car break ins on the property are a common occurrence so be prepared for that. read more

The absolute worst experience of my life renting from this company. The management and office staff has some of the worst customer service are the completely rude and unhelpful to any issue you might have. They promise a 24 hour service should you ever get locked out of their automatic lock doors and I once sat outside for 2 hours in 21 degree weather in Feb. as the security guards told me there was nothing they could do. That guarantee is not only in your contract, but also on their company website. I've requested several documents that they never gave me, maintenance once left my door open after they came in and I didn't get come until late that night, and there have been several other instances. I've tried to make formal complaints and the leasing office agents have literally hung up on me. I would never recommend anyone living in or paying money to this terrible establishment. You will be seriously disappointed. (I'm also pretty sure that the good reviews on Yelp are all fake from the staff that are trying to salvage their reputation). read more

I do not have a single good thing to say about this company. It is poorly run by a bunch of college kids who give no regard to personal privacy. I have been walked in on while sleeping, while walking out of my shower, and in various other scenarios. They just stand there as well. No one is apologetic. They say they're there for preventative maintenance or just to show your apt. Yes they can do that. In my last month of staying with them they walked through my apt 150 time total. Every day showing it about 3 times or more. It is in the lease to give 24 hour notice but they pay no regard to that. They'll just call you 10 minutes before they walk though that door so be wary if you're not next to your phone you could get an audience to whatever you're up to. I've yelled, calmly explained, gone through step by step procedure with them. They still do what they please. Their maintenance staff is awful. I had to put in 15 requests before anything got fixed. Also one of the times they came they just left a note saying it was completed without touching a single item on the list. Piss poor awful renting. For the price you would think you would receive quality, instead you get prepubescent teens and hood rats running through your apt whenever they feel they want to. I would rather live in my car than move back to one of these places again read more

On the exterior, the apartments are fine, and the locations are decent. Rent's reasonable enough, too. Once you move in, though, you might as well start looking for a new place. The desk staff is OK, but, the maintenance is a joke. They refuse to make repairs, even when the residents' health and safety are at stake. For example, we've had a leak in our apartment window that's created red and black mold, caused pieces of the roof to fall in, and has affected my fiancee's asthma and allergies. Even after getting a Notice of Violation from the City of St. Louis, and having multiple complaints filed through the BBB, they refuse to do anything. It's been FIVE MONTHS....yes, FIVE MONTHS since we first contacted them about it, and they haven't done a thing, other than come in, cut a hole in the ceiling, and left even more dust and debris in one of our bedrooms.
