While we understand that we had a smaller scope of work, we expected much better. Quality: they're are many defects that I am still discovering with workmanship on this project, and we are currently still waiting for crown molding trim to be completed for the upper cabinets (this project began in January). Professionalism: Attention to details in the planning process seemed to have been heavily ignored. The wrong laminate was installed on the kitchen countertop, and it took nearly two weeks to remedy the situation (see photos below). Scott (the quasi project manager) seemed to have a very apathetic attitude toward the situation when we made attempts to reach him after discovering the issues. Timeliness: While I fully understand how delays often occur in construction supply chains, KDC's contractors seem to believe that adhering to a schedule is optional, rather than mandatory. We were originally told that work would begin in late December, however demolition didn't actually begin until early February. With that, we were also given roughly a 2 week timeline for completion of the project. It took roughly until the beginning of March to have a functional kitchen again. With the understanding that we had a more limited scope of work compared to a full kitchen remodel, KDC seemed to value us as lower priority. Ultimately, I would strongly advise finding a different company to work with, perhaps somebody who has better oversight of their contractors/sub-contractors

I still had two other company's scheduled to discuss the work, one of them never showed after a few reschedules and the other was hard sell wanting to do a complete make over when I only wanted my Cabinets refaced. But they weren't the reason I chose to go with Five Star, Rick was. From our first meeting he was a genuine gentleman, listened to what I was wanting, gave me a few suggestions, which I am very thankful for and chose to do, but never any pressure sales. He took all the measurements, details and got every thing ordered, that is once I finally made up my mind, which he was very patient with my ever changing decisions. When I met Kelly he too from the beginning was a gentleman, very patient with my never ending questions. He was very meticulous in his work, he took the extra steps to make sure things were done the proper way. He explained what he was doing as he went along, including me in the process of each step. At the end of each day Kelly had the work area all cleaned up and I was able to use my kitchen if I needed. After the prepping and facing was done both Rick and Kelly worked together on installing the cabinet doors and drawers, they knew just what the other one needed working smoothly together. We were given Leslie's name by a contractor who had worked with her. She seemed to have good…read morecredentials and so I met with her and agreed to pay her for our kitchen design. Leslie told me that she charges a flat fee for the design independent of other sales and services she provides. Furthermore, if we purchased cabinets from her then half of the design fee would be refunded. This seemed fair. She came out to our home to look at the space. This took place during escrow and I was there with the real estate agent. I went upstairs while she was in the kitchen taking measurements and when I came back down she was gone. It was a little weird that she left without saying goodbye or letting me know she was leaving. When I met with her at her office she seemed very concerned that we purchase our cabinets through her, and she did not seem very enthusiastic about our project (which is a large, high-end kitchen). She assured me that she wanted to do the project. Although she had told me that we did not have to buy the cabinets from her in order for her to do the design, she'd prefer that we did. We had no reason not to, but I also did not want to be forced to do so, especially before we had a design. When she gave me the contract it stated that we had to buy cabinets from her. I reminded her that this is not what she had told me, so she agreed to cross that off the contract, and I signed it and paid her. Two weeks later right before we were supposed to meet to go over the design she sent me an email saying that she decided she was not going to do the project because she was worried that we would not buy the cabinets from her. So we lost several weeks of time and had to start over with another company. I am not giving one star because she's probably a good designer, but she was very unprofessional in how she dealt with us.
