Melissa's Frosted Mermaid cakes are not only out of this world beautiful, they are as delicious as they look! More creative and much, much more reasonable than others in this artistic custom cake category which I had researched online when we and the family decided we would celebrate my husband's birthday on Maui this past August. I was particular about getting him his favorite rich chocolate cake, and I absolutely did not want tasteless frosting of which many of the beautiful custom cakes we have had at other events are made. Her ingredients were just what I knew I wanted, different than the other custom companies' with whom I spoke about their cake and frosting ingredients. Luckily, I chose the right one, Frosted Mermaid, Melissa's, are far superior in taste than the custom design cakes we have had in the past. I explained to her my husband's life-long love of the ocean involving years of scuba diving, and spear fishing, in Hawaii, and around the world. After seeing her cakes on Frosted Mermaid website, and talking with her by phone, I ended up asking her to use her artistic vision to create a deep sea diver design for his special surprise birthday cake. And, what a hit it was, not only with the family, but all those around us at the restaurant. Love the way she blended the colors to represent a diver's view immersed in his deep ocean wonderland. Melissa aced it! She even added fish, sharks, corals, what appeared to be underwater diver's bubbles rising to the surface, and many more clever sea creatures and plants all around the outside of this beautiful tall cake. Cresting the top of the cake was an edible frothy looking stiff tall ocean wave she made...A TRUE DELICIOUS WORK OF ART. The second cake was a POG cake, a total surprise for us from her for our anniversary. Beautifully elegant, she says it's one of her most popular cakes, and we could certainly see and taste why that is. Both the cake and frosting were bursting with delicious POG flavor (passion orange guava for those of you who haven't grown up in, or raised kids in Hawaii). We've had other fruit juice or fruit puree cakes that can't come close to her magical tropical flavor blend. We all kept coming back for more, it was just as good at breakfast as it was for dessert. What a delightful experience it was working with and meeting this talented lovely young woman. Our whole family enjoyed meeting Melissa and her husband, her delivery helper.
