This is my go-to ice cream spot in Grand Rapids. I've heard good things about the food, but have never tried anything other than the ice cream. I am a simple lady and love a good twist cone with sprinkles and their soft serve is just superb. I have been to most of the ice cream joints in/around town and I have often run into the issue of the soft serve being TOO soft and melting quickly. I don't know what they are doing, but their soft serve is always so creamy and firm. It's a hit every time and we will literally drive past other spots to go here when we want ice cream. There is quite a bit of seating if you choose to stay there, way more than others in the area. The staff are always polite and helpful. I've never had a miss here! read more

We kept it simple when we ordered here - two cones, one vanilla and the other was a twist. Very creamy ice cream, and the cones were fresh tasting! It's hard to mess up ice cream, but I'm a big fan of CREAMINESS which both of these cones had. This was my first time to Frosty Boy. The Broaster chicken is FANTASTIC! I don't chooose to eat white meat chicken, until now - the chicken was soooo juicy. You have to wait 15-20 min but it's worth it. A hit with the entire family. The potato wedges are huge and remind me of battered mashed potatoes. The baked beans were good. Frosty Boy is a staple in our area for grab and go ice cream and treats! We have heard people rave about their Broaster Chicken but we never actually tried it until Mothers Day! They were offering a great deal for Mothers Day and it was a perfect time to try the chicken! We received 12pcs of chicken, 12pcs of wedges, 2 pints of any Hudsonville ice cream, and 2 different toppings for our ice cream. We added another 12 wedges as well. This deal was perfect for a 4 person dinner and we still had some left over. There is something different about this chicken! It's a much lighter frying that melts in your mouth. The wedges are seasoned and pair perfectly with the chicken. My only complaint about Frosty Boy is that the Brownie Delight sundae is rather disappointing. It was literally just vanilla ice cream with brownie squares. It needs some type of syrup or something! We will continue to support our local Frosty Boy! read more

SUMMARY: Come here. Good food, good service, good location, good prices. The prices at this place are entirely reasonable. Only a buck for a pop, compared to 2.50 at the place we were just at in Holland. The prices all around are reasonable for an ice cream stand. The food is cooked to order, so it comes out hot and fresh. The fried chicken is good. I'm not a connoisseur, so I can't sit here and compare it to all the other fried chicken I eat all the time, but it was well-friend and the breading is good. Potato wedges seem to be seasoned the same as the chicken. Came out insanely hot. The coney dog was...a coney dog. Cheap hot dog and bun and toppings, but hey, you knew that going in. The s'mores sundae was a bit disappointing, and I guess doesn't normally come with whipped cream and nuts, which would be incredibly disappointing. It needs them both. The glacier was delicious, but while I'm thankful they don't skimp on the ice cream...I think it was a bit too much ice cream for the amount of slushie. The service here is quick and friendly. The location is great. There's plenty of parking and plenty of seating. The seating area is covered in mulch and has some nice lights and trees covering the area. Quite cozy, despite being right next to a major road. This place is also right across the street from beautiful park, so you can grab a treat and head over there to enjoy it if you prefer. Big complaint: Pricing is a bit unclear (did we pay for the toppings on the coney dog? did we pay for whipped cream and nuts on the sundae?), and they didn't provide a receipt. Overall, we'd definitely come here again, and definitely recommend this place to others and bring friends and family from out of town. read more

Frosty Boy Team Wow! Was in town for business and discovered you on YELP. Looked like the place to get a great soft serve. YES! Excellent twist. Day 2 discovered you had Broasted Chicken!!! WOW! So fresh and delicious. The counter team handling service was great. Friendly , knowledgeable, and prompt. On top of that they were having Kids night and the Fire department there to show off their fire truck. Charity drive and entertainment for the kids. I've been hearing about this legendary broasted chicken at Frosty Boy for about a year now, so when my boyfriend took me on a surprise date recently, I was happy to see it was to Frosty Boy of Cascade! We stopped in during their last open week of the season, so they were out of some things but they were running some great specials. We ordered a three piece chicken meal, fries, wing dings, a shake, and a slush. I wanted to get a good idea of their offerings besides the broasted chicken. The guy taking our order was super friendly. You order at a window and they'll bring the food out to you. There are about 10 picnic tables and some Adirondack chairs for seating which was nice. Our chicken took a bit to make but we were told ahead of time that it would be about 15 minutes. The food was all hot when it came out (and the chicken was blazing hot) and everything looked good. The chicken meals are supposed to come with beans, potato wedges, and rolls, but we didn't get any of that. No worries as we had plenty to eat! The wing dings were very saucy and tasty. Nothing blow your mind crazy good but definitely hit the spot for a wing craving. The fries were crisp on the outside (the good kind of crisp on the outside) and seasoned really well. Finally, the chicken. It was still super hot but we couldn't resist. This is the juiciest fried chicken I've ever had. The outside coating was crispy and also seasoned well. There was a slightly fishy taste as if it was cooked in the same oil as some fish, but I didn't mind that too much. I might ask about it next time. But man, this was some of the best fried chicken I've had! Definitely sad we only got to go once this summer, but now we know. The only negative about eating at this location is the street noise is really loud, but there's a nice park across the street that you could take your food to. read more

You would probably never know just by driving by what looks like yet another summer only ice cream shop that this place sells possibly the best fried chicken in Grand Rapids - but it is. So first - the ice cream. They sell Hudsonville flavors plus soft serve, and the prices are very reasonable - a single scoop is only $2.35, and a kids scoop is even cheaper. They also do malts and shakes, and a variety of other frozen treats. They also have a Broaster oven (basically a pressure cooking deep fryer made by the Broaster company) that makes the crispiest, juiciest fried chicken I've ever had. The prices are insanely reasonable (12 pieces for like $14), and is so so good. A must have with the fried chicken is the potato wedges - think quartered whole potatoes cooked in the same deep frying pressure cooker. Crispy on the outside, but soft and tender potato goodness on the inside. It's sadly only open during the summer - but it's basically required I stop there for at least a shake if not fried chicken anytime in cascade. read more

I'm definitely a fan of Frosty Boy and my kids straight-up love this place. Right near the corner of Cascade Rd and Thornapple River Drive, it has a convenient location with a decent amount of parking out back. Oddly, it's right next to another place that serves ice cream (JamnBean), but that place is more of a coffee shop than a place for food and treats and both places seem to be reasonably busy. Frosty Boy has a fair, but not expansive, selection of ice creams, slushies and frozen treats. I was happy to see they also have at least one dairy-free selection available at all times, sometimes more. When I saw that they served hot dogs, sliders and chicken, I didn't think too much of it until I saw the chicken they serve is "Broasted Chicken", which I remember loving as a kid in the Detroit area. It's basically a pressure-cooked chicken that takes about 15 minutes to prepare, but it's usually very juicy and has a very tasty, crispy coating. My kids tried a piece of mine and were instantly hooked. After that, I hopefully tried the sliders and dogs, but I wasn't at all impressed (the dogs were just 'ok' and the sliders were dry and tasteless.) The outdoor seating area is actually pretty nice with a few large Adirondack chairs and several picnic-style tables. The staff is always friendly and the portions are generous. It's a no-brainer that this place will be a regular stop for our family during the summer and fall. read more

Still fantastic broasted chicken. The outside is very crispy without being brown, and the inside is super juicy and tender - even the breast pieces. We come here often and go to the park across the street to enjoy a water view while we eat. If you leave your take-out box open, it stays nice & crispy. This place has gone through many changes, and it'll always be Sundaes at the Cottage to me, but I was pleasantly surprised at how much my friend and I enjoyed this place. There are lots of options, and they sure don't skimp on portions! I had the dark chocolate vegan gelato which was very creamy and I couldn't even tell it was vegan. My friend got a small flurry which is served in a 12oz cup and is enough for two people. Read several reviews talking about how good the chicken is, so I had to try. Order the dinner which comes with sides, but they told me they didn't have any sides. Dinner is still the same price though even though I wasn't going to get sides. So I ended up ordering just chicken and potato wedges. Chicken was dry, breading was crispy, but the skin was not. Skin was soggy and chewy. Way too much salt. I've eaten a lot of fried chicken in my day, and this disappointing. If this is the best chicken in GR, my heart goes out to the people of GR. read more
