I had been looking for a beautiful new entry door for some time and finally found it at Cambridge, "The Best Little Door House in Texas". From the first time I sat down with the owner, Michael Stinson, to discuss the door, I knew this was the company I wanted to work with to build and install my new door. This is an owner and a company of integrity, expertise, and over 30 years of experience in building doors and windows. Michael is a perfectionist and expects nothing less of his people who build and do the installations. I was given a tour of the work rooms where they do their "magic" to assemble these beautiful doors, all the way from the planks of wood with the bark still intact to the gorgeous finished product. It was amazing. The gentleman who builds, sands and finishes the doors, Adolfo, is an unbelievable woodworking artist . Mario and Mario II were experts installing the door, which requires a lot of skill and is a messy job, but my foyer was as clean when they left as when they came, maybe cleaner. They cleaned up every speck, super nice men. There are so many beautiful doors to choose from, it's difficult to choose, not only the door, but the hardware as well; however, Michael is an expert in helping you choose the perfect door and hardware to match the style and exterior of your home. I rarely review companies, but this company is too amazing not to. After all, your front door is like the elegant jewelry of your home. I looked at a lot of door companies in Houston; Cambridge Doors and Windows far surpassed all of them in quality, expertise, and customer service from start to the finished install. We will def use them again for the rest of our windows! We replaced an old builder grade front door and put storm doors on all exterior doors. The front door is composite but it looks like real wood. It is really beautiful. The installations were all perfect and comprehensive. The Cambridge crew did a great job on everything: professional, great work, on time, and neat. Diana coordinated the installations and kept us well informed at all stages. One small hiccup is being resolved as I write this. They don't have a big crew so we had to be a bit flexible on scheduling, but they show up when they say they will and work hard the whole time. We will definitely use them again when we replace French doors on patio. Highly recommend this company, we are happy with everything!

They said they would need to come measure first, so we spent the next 3 days trying to nail down and date/time, but they were giving me vague answers like "tomorrow", but no time given. They said they could probably come out today (Thursday), but didn't give me a time. I asked what time, so I could have someone at the house to meet them, and they told me "around noon". I had my boyfriend go to the house to wait for them because I couldn't get away from work. He waited there until 2 pm before giving up and leaving. While he was waiting I asked J&J to call when they were on their way, sent a follow up email to see if they were coming, and sent a text asking them same....... NO RESPONSE AT ALL. I ended up sending a text back and saying not to come because I'm going to go with some else. This is not an effective way to run a business. I need to be able to set a time or time frame and know that the company I'm hiring is responsible enough to at least answer me. I can only imagine if I paid them and something went wrong, how big of a hassle it would be to have them come out to fix it. Don't waste your energy or your money on this company.

Amongst everyone contacted me, Kirby seemed more genuine and professional in the replies. Time went by with another artic freeze last December. Ok, time to revisit my request. I messaged Kirby on Yelp. He remembered our conversation and replied right away, as usual. After I sent him the pictures, he quickly replied with a quote. Then, he agreed to show up on my day off. My husband wanted me to fix the front door since the freeze we all endured over 10 years ago. I tried my DIY fix from foam patch to stuck some towels, to seal the seams with packing tape to adding a drape... Yaddi yadda. Ok. Time to call a professional. Because it's an exterior door, it has to be fiberglass door because steel door will conduct temperature from outside. Hot out hot in and cold out cold in. No lying. I researched before agreed to get it installed. Also, because of the door frame had been badly damaged with years of abuse from the weather, everything has to go. I was told by some carpenters who wanted to just replace out the bad piece of door frame with a piece of wood plank. No way, José. I was so glad that I refused to get another DIY person's work and getting charged for a professional price. According to Kirby, his Mr. Handyman Kirby business has been handed down from his grandfather to his father... for generations. Kirby specializes in doors, drywall repairs and other handyman's tasks. He was professional and polite. My neighbor came by to inquire about his business. I had to give them his card and information. He gave 100% of his attention to my project. That's very important. So, he won't get distracted and delay my project. I really appreciate his policy in taking care of his clients. Guess what, I'm going to enlarge his business card and tape it to my door.
