There is a wide variety of options for frames and mats and service was knowledgeable and helpful to plan out hiding flaws in my prints. This is a great place! It's run by Vinny, who is very old-school in his approach to everything. The store is filled with work he's done, hanging on the walls, waiting to be picked up. I wasn't sure exactly what frame I wanted to buy. He went through my options with me, helped me pick the perfect frame in just the right color, and was nice as could be. I dropped it off on a Saturday and he told me it would be ready the following Saturday - but it was ready on Tuesday! And he even called me to let me know it was ready. Reading some of the reviews, I'm actually shocked that several people have a problem with Vincent's personality because I found him to be one of the sweetest guys I've ever met. You can read my other reviews to know that I don't take any nonsense from anyone and I'm very quick to call someone out on their nonsense. I find Vincent to be a genuine, sweet, honest and hardworking man. Personality can be pretty subjective though and at the end of the day what really matters is the quality of the work and the value. I am going to let the picture speak for itself, my frame is gorgeous. What I need to talk about is the price. If you can't tell, my school issues an oversized diploma and I chose be extra and get a frame that is two times bigger than the diploma. IT'S HUGE! Also, because it is my diploma, I used conservation material. The totally cost was a little over $300. Frugal Framers are not the first place I got a quote from, so I can tell you that the price is AMAZING. I asked him how he keeps his prices so long and he explained to me that he does everything on his own in the shop. So its not that you are getting cheap quality or corners are being cut; its that he's an old fashioned works-men. You aren't getting a middle man or having it shipped off somewhere, he does it himself and it saves you money. I highly recommend him! read more

I chose top of the line glass- non reflective, etc --and the prices were very competitive. I drove to Frugal Framers in Waltham all the way from Hyde Park after deciding I wasn't willing to risk sending my treasured prints to the online hacks or the amateurs at the crafts stores. After much research, including reading lots of Yelp reviews, I decided to try Frugal Framers. They did not disappoint. I am a 100 percent convert. No framing my treasures at craft shops for me. I hesitate to write this review because I know Vincent already has plenty of customers and could really use a vacation - he works 6 long days a week(!). Vincent stretched and framed a stunning oil painting I have from Italy. The painting is special to me and I wanted to make sure the framing was done perfectly. He gave me advice that was helpful on what would look nice. Vincent went above and beyond and the finished product far exceeded my expectations - I would suggest following his lead on design recommendations. Had I gone to another framing store the cost for stretching and the (very expensive) frame would probably have been $600 - $800. He charged me $475 and expressed feeling bad that he was charging me so much money - it was literally a great price from my perspective. We have had many things framed here and they are all beautiful. There are countless frames and mats to choose from and Vincent does an excellent job, plus never tries to oversell you if you just want to do something simple and affordable. The art comes back framed in a timely way and everything is low key. I also like the very retro TV that is generally playing in the background. I would be happy giving Frugal Framers NO stars. I went in there today because of the excellent reviews on Yelp. I walked in the store. It's very cluttered but clean and small. There were two men working at tables. No one bothered to look up when I walked in nor did they say hello or anything. I looked around at the frames for a few minutes and still nothing. I asked if someone could help me and one of the men asked me to wait a few minutes. When he finally asked to help me I told him I had a few things to frame and he said the other man would have to help me. Nothing from the other man. I waited for a few minutes and decided that I wouldn't give my business to someone who wasn't even interested in acknowledging my presence so I left. Too bad...I wanted to give my business to a local small business but will never go back there. read more

I was in a crunch trying to get a custom frame of a picture of my boyfriend and I at the world series with our 2 tickets. I tried ordering something on RedSox.com and a month later they informed me they were out of the frame I ordered, 3 days before Christmas. I ran around frantic trying to find a place, every place I called turned me down because of the short notice, or wanted to charge me an arm and a leg. I called Frugal Framers, and he totally saved me. Told me to come in after he's already closed. Told me he could get it done as fast as he could. My frame was ready in less than 12 hours!! After bringing several products to Frugal Framers, I will never go anywhere else for custom framing. The prices are extremely reasonable -- even with upgrades, the prices are usually 45-50% less than they would be at Michaels or another craft store. And the owner of the store is great at working with customers to arrive at the right look and price point. What makes Frugal Framers so great, however, is the quality of the work. We have now brought in four different items for framing of various sizes, including pictures that had either come in a different frame or had been folded up. This review is a bit late - I had my picture framed over a year ago. My main issue here was not with the quality of the work, but with the "customer service". The owner had closed the shop early, but I was able to get his attention and he (seemingly begrudgingly) reopened the shop to help me. I felt bad, in a way, but with my work schedule I was not likely to get there early another day. He was all too happy to give his opinion about the frame and the mat, but when I disagreed on how much mat should show (I wanted less), he was very pushy about how it "should be done." I should have insisted on what I preferred, but I gave in, deferring to his professional opinion - shame on me. My main issue with this man was the comments he made - they were highly inappropriate. I felt very uncomfortable, and I wouldn't go back because of that. read more

I know everyone here loves Vincent and his old school Italian charm, but I am not feeling the love for Frugal Framers. I have been here twice now and, although nothing was truly bad, there were some things that will keep me from going back. The first time I went in, I called first to get an estimate for framing a poster, which he quoted me $40 for. Wow, what a deal! I went in the next day and the price went from 40 to $46. Not a big deal, but no one likes to be quoted one price and charged another. No worries, I didn't mention the discrepancy and let him do the work. He told me it would be done in 3 days and he would call me when I could get it. A week and a half goes by and I haven't heard from him. So, I popped in to inquire about my poster. He was like "oh yeah, I called you about this. It's been done for a week! You said you would come in!" No, you didn't call me. "Oh, well you should have come in to get it. Why didn't you just come in last week?". Because you said you would call me when it was ready. Sigh. Regardless, he did great work for a great price. I didn't hesitate to bring my second piece in for framing. This time the piece was much, much smaller, so I figured it would be even cheaper than the poster. I was surprised when he gave me a price of nearly $70 to frame an 8x11 print with a single mat (the mat was $11). I left the print with him, but called him when I got home after thinking more about the price in comparison to the poster. When I asked why the poster was around $40 and this small print was nearly $70, his answer was literally "I'll tell you why. You got a heck of a deal on that poster. That's why. Do you know how much those poster frames cost? They cost $75". Um.. ok. Not quite the answer I was looking for. When I came in to get the print, he again tried to justify why he was charging me so much more for the little print than he did for a poster by telling me every other shop would charge $150 for a poster frame and he only makes a few dollars per frame. Then he started pointing out other work in the shop and telling me how much he was charging (all of which were much larger frames and much less money than what I was paying him, so I don't see how that was helping his argument). I told him he gave me a great deal on the poster and that is why I came back. This print is a gift and he does good work, so I paid him without argument, but I certainly will not be going back here. read more

Vincent was simply the best! I needed two letters framed for an event. It was very last minute and I did not expect miracles. I called the framer we normally use in my town of Needham and they laughed....no I mean literally laughed at me when I told them my request. Vincent was recommended to me by a friend. I brought the project in around 3:30PM yesterday afternoon, his store was filled with jobs and he does all the work himself. He told me not to worry, he'd get it done for my event. I have had such terrific interactions with Vince that I felt obligated to say something on Yelp since he doesn't have nearly the number of reviews that he deserves! Probably like most people, for my custom framing needs, I started out going to big chains like Michael's, Joann, or AC Moore for their 40, 50, or 60% off coupon sales. Then while searching through Google, I happened upon some positive reviews of Frugal Framers on a different site and made the wise decision to bring my business to Vince. The first thing you will notice is that Vince has a great eye for helping you find just the right frame and/or mat. This in itself was big change from those other places where the girls behind the counter offer very little assistance other than to grab whatever you ask them to grab. The second thing is that his prices are very fair. Vince doesn't do fake "sales". In just about every case, his asking price was far lower than the "60% off" rates I had been used to paying for at those other places. On top of that, the quality of work is consistently excellent AND the turnaround time is much faster than I had been used to as well! I have made the drive from Porter Square to Vincent's shop on Moody a few times now, and it is well worth it. If you have a framing job, I highly recommend that you go see the difference between the guy who cares about the work he does and the gal who just wants to get through her shift while expending as little energy as possible. read more

Vinny is fantastic! I brought in a sign that I made for my wedding that I wanted to get framed. The sign had print that was brown and an unusual purple (closest to an eggplant). Vinny spent at least 20 minutes with me looking for the perfect color mat to border my sign. We finally found the perfect purple and Vinny even called his supplier before I left to make sure it would be in the order that came in the next day. He finished the work in only a few days and now I have a great memento of my wedding. This place is fantastic and I will definitely go back. I recently took a picture to Vinny for framing. It was a painted-on-fabric picture that I received as a gift. At first, I spent a lot of time and choose a more expensive frame and mounting. After talking with my husband, I decided that the cost was just too high, so I called Vinny and arranged to go back in and see what my options were. Vinny helped me choose a less expensive frame and a plain glass. It was done in one day and looked fantastic.
