I brought in a poster from a…read moreFrench museum that featured the paintngs of my great- grandfather with the hope it could be enhanced in size, framed, etc. Tom guided me through the various options and within 15 minutes we came up with the right combination. I ordered four for family members as gifts for my children and a nephew. Yesterday I got a call from Tom saying the finished product was in and ready for pickup, which I did today. Tom expertly shrink-wrapped together the four pictures for easy transport and brought them to my vehicle. I left the shrink-wrap on since it's a gift, but you can get a sense of the quality of the frame and reproduction. Tom is the epitome of a small shop owner who cares about his workmanship and his customer service. And a great story teller.

We chose one, gave a 50% deposit. When we arrived home and considered the space it was to be hung, we decided to go with the other choice. We immediately called John (we left his store only 30 minutes prior) to tell him we are changing to the other frame. He was nasty, said we were "grinding him" (not sure what that means since we were asking only for his opinions) and said he's too busy to deal with this and to come get our piece. We attempted to calm him down and in spite of his unprofessional demeanor told him we'd be in to look at the other frame. Upon further consideration I decided I did not want to work with someone so unprofessional. When I arrived I asked him what went wrong and he lost it again. Crazy! He the gave me our piece wrapped in paper, not in the tube he was given and when I asked him to put it in the tube for protection, he said "I already rolled it." I not only recommend ASF, I rely on them to advise, frame, and protect extremely valuable and important paintings, drawings, prints, assemblages, and collectibles. ASF stands behind their quality work which begins with pick up/intake, suggestions for best exhibiting items, and constructions that are precise and sturdy. The prices at ASF are not only competitive, they are beyond reasonable, if not inexpensive, for 5 star frames. On the rare occasion I require rapid turnaround, ASF is accommodating. Even more important, expedience does not sacrifice quality nor does it incur added expense. ASF is the best of the best.

This is a review of the one in Cambridge, I think they have other locations, but I've never been to any of those. Here's the deal... Service - the two ladies that work at A Street are probably the sweetest most amazing people I've ever interacted with in a retail setting. They don't rush anyone, they help you make good framing decisions, and they genuinely love art and framing and making customers happy. I've been there three times in total, and these ladies know my name, they remember who I am, etc. Prices - custom framing is expensive. I don't exactly know how these guys "stack up" because it's a very difficult service to comparison shop. My guess is these guys are a little more expensive than your average framing shop. I felt VERY well treated with regard to price. Quality - A Street is a very rare bird. They actually make many of their frames in house.... so they are actually a TRUE custom framer. This means that they actually modify and create frames from scratch all the time. I just brought in a painting that was an odd size, and they are going to mill out the rabbit so that it fits perfectly into the back of the frame! Go ask a regular "custom" framing shop to do something like that and they will look at you like you have three heads. These guys suggested it to me! The frames they stock are top notch, many are made in-house. A Street supplies to other framers as well... so they havea manufacturing arm. Timeliness - Sooo if you are in a huge rush, I'm not sure this is the place for you. I wouldn't know since I've never actually asked them to rush anything. I generally am cool with waiting several weeks or longer. Long story short, in my opinion, this is a place that values quality and execution over price and speed. The people are exceptional, the work quality is amazing (I think I am having my tenth thing framed with them), and you will be extremely pleased. I would run, not walk, here.

I sent an email to The Picture Store with images of what had happened and asked for a refund for the one artwork that was done incorrectly. I left a message a week later and now, after almost two weeks, I still have not heard back. Go someplace where the customers are treated respectfully after the work is finished.
