The Saturday before Thanksgiving was the last day of the outdoor market. It will be closed for a few weeks before the indoor market opens in the Wompatuck State Park Visitors' Center. The winter farmers market runs from January through March and then we look forward to the outdoor market reopening in April. Given our beloved 4-season climate here which is not always conducive to a year-round outdoor market, I feel lucky and pleased to have the indoor winter market solution. Our farmers market has gotten more well-known since I last reviewed it so it tends to be busier and more crowded. It can be annoying to wait in line for things but I am pleased it is thriving, and serving more people with quality produce and other products. Each year seems to bring more offerings of not just local food and food products but some lovely handmade crafts.

I got a small watermelon for $3 and a melon for $2. The bakery items were limited to cookies at $2 each or bags of 6 for $7 at another table. Then small loafs of bread. The pie vendor had a huge selection, I found the sample I had a bit syrupy though. The jelly person let me sample some mixed berry jam that was very tasty. For $6 a jar I might go back for some when I run out. There was a nice couple selling potted herbs for cheap. They also gave me some great tips on why some herbs grow stronger then others. Other booths were honey, fresh fish, and some home made items. Plenty of parking near the wharf.

The roast beef sandwich with gouda was so juicy and every bite made me want to cry because I live nowhere near this hidden gem. The sandwiches also come with juicy, tasty bread and butter pickles which are also made in house. I'm pretty sure her meat is nitrate free as well. She has a wonderful selection of teas available - however I didn't have time to try any. The meal was topped off with a light fluffy blondie - super yummy. This isn't your average 2017 bakery with cakes and cupcakes so expect to see a variety of different pastries and breads each day, a yummy lunch menu, afternoon tea, a breakfast menu, very nice decor for eating in and a homey environment. I haven't had the pleasure to dine in yet as a customer for afternoon tea, but when I work there on a very part time basis, I help craft the tea sandwiches which are lemon chicken salad, cucumber and dill and egg salad.When I say craft, I literally mean cutting off the crust of the bread and making the tea sandwiches. Janet mostly and other team members of the bakery usually help to finish off the afternoon tea orders by adding the sandwiches, fruit and pastries to the three tiered stand. It's very pretty once everything goes on it and I can see why it's becoming very popular at the bakery! Janet once told me the concept of the afternoon tea is for customers to fulfill their experience by relaxing and taking their time to eat and drink what they've ordered. I remember when I saw a mother and daughter having afternoon tea for the first time; the staff and I marveled at how they were having a great time. Those moments are delightful and precious! The pastries that I have tried already are the cinnamon chip scone, blueberry scone, gigantic cinnamon role, and sticky bun. The scones are packed with flavor and baked to perfection. I live with my boyfriend as well as his brother and they rave about them too!! Thanks Janet :) The cinnamon role is HUGE and worth the purchase. The last time I had a sticky bun was from Panera, and while not completely knocking Panera cause I still like their pastries, I would eat Janet's over Panera's any day! Hers is gooey and melts in your mouth after a bite. Her breads are made 100% from scratch with natural leavening. I have had the Italian, sourdough, wheat bread and bread & butter. No complaints from me regarding the breads because they all taste delicious!! I love how they're all vegan friendly too so you vegans out there, come on down and buy her bread! The 2014 season started today, and there were about two dozen interesting, local vendors out in force. We picked up some vibrant, organic veggies and fruits from the two crop farms represented there, but there were all other kinds of other interesting tents, too: herbal soaps, local honey, maple syrup, etc.! It's a little pricey, yes, but you're supporting local businesses, and most of the stuff is good for Mother Earth. We arrived about 20 minutes to close, and people were already closing up shop.
