Drinks were overpriced, low grade, full of sugar. Wine tasted like goats milk and with a weird gamey taste and the whiskey was all sugar no alcohol. Will Not be returning or recommending to anyone wanting to plan an event. Hillcrest and San Diego is known for event spaces, bars and nightlife. In a saturated market they provided zero edge over the competition. Food was cold, bland, dry chicken and portioned for a child. An absolute disappointed. Taking zero accountability and gaslighting past guest is not a good business practice. Your wine was by far the worst wine I've ever had, I couldn't take two sips without cringing, the whiskey used in your establishments is low grade low shelf whiskey and the food was bland and dry. This place is cute! My sister in law came across this place and made dinner reservations (for three) here for my birthday. Due to covid restrictions (and this was back in a October, we didn't really get the full experience but it was still a pleasant experience and I would love to come back here next time I am down. So many angles of photo ops in this venue. it's pretty intimate inside but there's also outside seating as well. Bring that it was all of our first time here, we got a few plates to share and also tried their pomegranate wine so good! It's really cool to see a place that does so much stuff in one place. A few years ago was when craft beer reached its height, felt like a new brewery was opening up every month. Now that everyone is trying to be more health conscious, craft distilleries and hard kombuchas are picking up. I feel like the next wave will be Meaderies. This place has mead, ciders, wines (not from grapes), hard seltzers, liquors and eau de vie (made from brandy). Also their charcuterie board was super good. I was glad to choose FruitCraft for my wedding: a stylish event space with delicious fruit wines and cocktails! When my then fiancé and I toured FruitCraft, and there were many reasons we instantly fell in love with FruitCraft for our wedding! After years of planting my roots in San Diego and curating my love for the restaurants in this city, it was important to our wedding vision that our venue showcased our love for San Diego culture. This place has a little something for everyone to enjoy. The have mead, wine (dry to sweet), hard kombucha, cider, hard seltzer and beer. They even have normal kombucha and cold brew for non-alcoholic options. The inside is also really pretty and instagrammable if that's your thing. They have outdoor seating on their front patio and back patio as well as indoor seating with tables very spread out. The service throughout the night was great too! I got a flight and tried the pineapple wine (dry), pineapple cider and the cranberry spice hard kombucha. The pineapple wine was pretty unique. It definitely smelled like pineapple but the flavor was much more mild. The cider was just ok as the flavor was even milder than the wine. The cranberry hard kombucha was delicious though! Just the right amount of spice and tang that comes from a normal kombucha. Another unique drink someone in my party got was the lavender cold brew. FruitCraft turned out to be the PERFECT venue for our wedding!!! It made me glad our original venue canceled all events because I don't think our wedding would have been as great as it was had it been hosted anywhere else. We did a quick ceremony here and reception followed after. The whole space is beautiful and I received a lot of compliments on it despite having pretty much 0 decorations of my own. I am definitely a lazy Type A- bride... didn't worry about decorations at all because of all the greenery this place has. However, there's lots of room for personalization and decorations if you're into that. Staff was super helpful all around. Alan was easy to work with in creating a quote that was suitable for us. He always answered emails and calls right away. Anna also helped in answering all questions. On the night of our event, she was always easy to find at the venue and made sure our event went without a problem. She also made sure I always had a drink in hand haha :) We did all of our food and beverage through FruitCraft. We also hired our DJ, also through the venue. This place made wedding planning EASY. Great little place if you want some wine and kombucha. We came cuz we saw a groupon deal and it looked great from the pictures. My gf is a big fan of kombucha. They were out of the hard kombucha so she decided to get their grapefruit non alcoholic one which was great. We decided to get a flight as well with a mixture of the cider, sweet wine, and semi sweet wine. We both enjoyed the pomegranate flavors which gave it a sweetness but some tartness as well. We also got a margarita flatbread as well which to our surprise was very good. I thought coming into it would have been just a typical flatbread you could make at home but it has great flavor and the crust tasted nice and fresh would go back and get that one again. This is a cute little hard kombucha place in the heart of Hillcrest. When you walk in, you can order at the bar and then seat yourself and they will bring your order to you. The manager was pretty attentive and went over the menu with me and answered all my questions thoroughly! They offer quite an extensive menu of beverages besides their kombucha, so there's sure to be something for everyone. They even have Frose! I ended up going for their pineapple hard kombucha, which was pretty refreshing and easy on the palate. I also ordered the charcuterie board, which was a good deal for $13 and definitely enough for 2 people to share. It had a couple types of cheeses and meats, as well as jam & fruit. After realizing it was my first time there, he quickly went over the menu with me. A few minutes after, Anna, the manager, chatted with me about my options. I, then, decided on breakfast flatbread and the Flight of three (no alcohol): Apple Cinnamon, Grapefruit Rosemary and Cherry Basil. They were all refreshing. My favorite was the Cherry Basil. My very first time of having Kombucha, fermented tea, also known as "mushroom tea." Glad I tried it! Ambiance Comfy and cozy. I particularly liked the healthy green plants draping the wall of the dining area. My husband adorns our house with the exact same plants. The velvety couches definitely made my dining experience more pleasurable. Sitting Area - Three tables and 3 to 4 comfy chairs with the centerpiece of a cute bottle holding up a fresh single sunflower. - Two green cotton velvet upholstery arranged against the right side wall with 2 armchairs. I liked the cherry basil kombucha (really tasty, not too sweet) and apple cinnamon (tasted mostly like cider). My friend most loved the third one in the flight, grapefruit rosemary kombucha (but I can't comment on it - I didn't taste it b/c I don't like grapefruit or rosemary!) You'll get a brain freeze from the frosé, and you'll find a bubbly cranberry drink that feels like Thanksgiving in a glass. Service is great, and the drinks are great, so why not five stars? It's the food. Skip the food. The bruschetta is lightly toasted bread slices served with a cup of what looks like salsa. Disappointing presentation and not especially fantastic in flavor. Our server graciously and knowledgeably informed us of the types of drinks available, the emphasis being on fermented fruits. There is a limited but interesting food menu. The Five Tastes were unique, although some flavors survived the distillation process better than others. I ordered the Fruitcraft Margarita, and found it to be very zesty, the presentation resembling a martini. Our shared lunch consisted of Irish Nachos, which substituted russet potato slices for tortilla chips, and smothered them with cheese and bacon, and The Mikey, an excellent BBQ pork and mozzarella sandwich, with pickled onions in the mix. I would order both again. All in all, a fine and interesting dining experience. Not cheap, though, the meal running about $50 with tip. read more

I helped my wife plan an even here and the headache that the couple had to go through is not worth it. They give you 2 hours of their time for questions/correspondence....email them, they take 15 to 30 mins off the 2 hours. Call them with a question - 15 to 30 mins off. If your 2 hours are gone, then you're SOL...pay up! Need a table for a wedding cake - that's $35 since it wasn't specified. You need another hour to set up before or tear down after? Gotta open the checkbook. Open bar in the contract? We were told they started serving at 6:51pm so they were going to close the bar at 9:52 (not 10pm). You want to plug in a coffee maker? That's $100. Nickle and diming is not enough to describe the experience. Weddings are stressful to begin with. You don't need additional stress worrying about the nickle and diming Fruitcraft will do to you for your event. read more

I had my wedding here and had SO many regrets. Where do I even begin? I had my wedding back in Oct 2021 and I've been pushing off posting this review because I get so frustrated when I think about it. Fruitcraft used to lease the space adjacent to them and used it as an event hall that seated 200 people. We booked it for 180 back in July 2020 for our Fall 2021 wedding. We had a venue tour with our planner in Jan 2021. Fruitcraft didn't inform us that they exited their lease until a week or two before our second visit. So, we were forced to downsize to 150 guests and have our wedding at the restaurant. OH, and did I mention that they exited their lease shortly AFTER we booked with them.. and they didn't communicate the fact that we had to downsize with us for months? They gave us a link to see pics of the new space in FALL of 2020. After we had already given them thousands of dollars in a non refundable deposit. We didn't find out they completely changed the space until Jan 2021. It only got worse from there. The owner, Alan, verbally promised us some freebies and comped add-ons as an apology for us having to downsize, but refused to send it to us in email. As we got closer to the date, he went back on his word. He wouldn't even grant my planner an extra hour of set up time and gave her a hard time every step of the way. Outside catering was allowed, but when they heard we hired a cotton candy vendor, he wanted to charge me extra because our guests would dirty up the venue with the sugar. Keep in mind that we only had 2 young kids at the wedding. I found that incredibly disrespectful. I attached the email for proof. Oh, and I paid nearly $60 per person for open bar. He told us that it can be two-ingredient mixed drinks and didn't give us a limit. Which we were fine with. Closer to the day, he tells us that they already chose the drinks for us, we would only have two options, and that we couldn't change it unless we wanted to pay an extra $500 to make a custom drink. AND THEY RAN OUT OF ALCOHOL AT 7PM.. our wedding ended at 10pm. So yeah, I was rightfully pissed. Why wouldn't a wedding venue accurately plan for this?! Our planner had to go out of our way to warn ALL of our vendors on how rude Alan is. Honestly? SAVE YOUR MONEY and book elsewhere. This was EASILY the most stressful part of wedding planning and I wouldn't wish it on any other couple. If I could go back in time and pick a different venue, I would have. You would think that a wedding venue would be graceful and understanding about the logistics (i.e. the guest list, drink options, a bit of extra set up time) but nope. The worst part is that we chose this venue so we could go back every year and reminisce on the best day of our lives. I never want to come back here again. We had the pleasure of having Camille wait on our table. She was very knowledgeable about their fermentation process and gave great suggestions as far as fermented fruits, spirits and cocktails. I started with a flight of fermented fruits. I had pomegranate, pineapple and opted to try the melon infusion with kiwi, honeydew, and watermelon. Of the three, the melon infusion was my favorite, which led me to order a cocktail with the melon infusion as the base. The tasters come in shot glasses, accompanied by a mini carafe of tonic and a glass of ice, which allows you to try each one separately or have some fun and mix them up however you'd like. Either way, this is a great way to start. The frosé isn't bad either. They'll even layer the different flavors if you ask them to. The spinach artichoke stuffed mushrooms are amazing! It's an off-menu item so order it while it's there. But be careful not to eat paper napkin under, though. It's easy to scoop up with your fork. The Irish nachos are bomb. Baked and sliced potatoes, cheese, Crema and shaved scallions. Can't go wrong with this. You can become a member also. Membership gets you $5 wine, $8 cocktails and 10% off everything else. They'll even give you a "member for a day" card and extend the discounts to you even without signing up. read more

Delicious cocktail flights distilled from fermented fruits. The crowd-pleasing menu of diverse flights is impressive with wine (dry, semi-sweet sweet), mead, cider, craft beer, and even kombacha. It's got something for everyone. My husband and I had a hard time choosing between the flights, so we tried a bunch! Of all the drinks, the refreshing Strawberry Mojito cocktail with fresh muddled strawberries was hands-down my favorite! Perfect summer cocktail. I don't see it on the menu now, and hopefully it'll return. Some of the wine and cocktails are seasonal and the menu changes often. I just saw Pumpkin Spice and Mead on the menu - excited to try it! The EDV (Eau De Vie) flight is clear brandy and quite potent with 40% ABV! I took only a couple of sips and like the mango the best. Get it on the rocks or with tonic water. The pomegranate flight was tart and potent as well, the sweet one was my favorite. I enjoyed the Semi-Sweet wine and semi-sweet cider flights. The food looked appetizing and will save some room for the flatbreads next time! The service is really friendly and nice. They patiently explained the process of fermenting and distilling the fruits and walked us through each flight. They checked on us frequently without rushing us. Definitely pace yourself! I cannot express how amazing Fruitcraft was for my wedding, which took place on March 4th 2023. Due to family circumstances, I was looking for a venue that was willing to help me plan a wedding in a little less than 2 months. I applied for a quote around Dec 26th 2022 with my estimated price range and number of guests. After playing around with the quote, we thought we wouldn't have been able to afford Fruitcraft with the little time we had and decided to give up. That was when Alan reached out to us with an email and an updated quote that was even UNDER our budget! I got on a call with him and he assured me that they would be able to pull it off no problem. It was their "bread and butter" as he put it. lol That's how I knew we would be taken care of, and he even suggested things to lower to quote even more and didn't try to oversell to us on anything. Alan and Anna were so awesome, always had great communication, and always made us feel valued and taken care of. The first time we viewed the venue, we instantly fell in love with everything. Although this was the only venue we saw in person, we were so impressed with everything that we put in a deposit the same night. Anna was so exceptional, she made sure every detail was covered and every concern was addressed. We decided to add vendor packages with Fruitcraft for them to contact a photographer (twopinesphoto) and DJ for us as well who were both amazing! Anna helped us set up phone calls with both of them and made sure everyone was on the same page to bring our vision of our wedding to life. They also referred us to an officiant and helped us with special requests for the dessert such as an extra cake for cutting. The florals we also AMAZING! We didn't get to see them until the day of and we had only sent Anna the colors we wanted and a few inspo pictures. Before our wedding, they had also recently renovated the venue and we were the second wedding to get to use the bridal suite room where I did a dress change for the reception. It was beautiful and the mirror in there is awesome. Our guests all had an awesome time, the food was 10/10, the drinks were amazing, and everyone was so impressed. We had concerns about the parking because of the location, but the DMV parking lot was able to hold all of our 115 guests! Some of them even said they wanted to host their own event there too. I cannot recommend Fruitcraft enough for any event, not just weddings. Take the time to read through all of their guidelines and you will not be blindsided by anything. Make sure you communicate everything to Alan and Anna so no concerns are left unaddressed. Me and my wife booked a private event (wedding) in July on 2019, due to covid we rescheduled 3 times and eventually had our event in August of 2021, nearly two years later. The entire experience was a headache, from keeping track of the nickle and diming of every little thing you could possibly think of to the owner telling us In January 2020 that the event building next door that we booked our wedding in was no longer available, and his lease was ending a month before our date. Despite his offerings changing and the event space being completely taken away, the owner was unwilling to refund us or give a credit. The owner had felt the need to even give a full breakdown of how much time we were allowed to speak to his event manager. To top it off, we had zero communication with the event manager until we inquired 45 days ahead of the wedding, completely disorganized and unprofessional the entire way through. This is what you get for booking one of the cheapest event venues we could find in SD, aside from fruitcraft cooking the food, don't expect much. read more

The venue is LOVELY! It was absolutely perfect, classy, clean and minimalistic. It's so light and refreshing. The appetizers, main course, dessert & drinks were GREAT! All our guests complimented us on the space we had selected to celebrate my husband's 50th birthday. Couldn't have been happier! Alan haghighi was professional, prompt with all communication and timeline management of the event. Extremely friendly staff on hand on the day of the party. Got to meet Anna, so sweet and kind. She made sure I was happy and everything was set to my liking. Jonathan the bartender and another Alan who was my right hand man for the evening, kept everything flowing at a perfect pace. I feel like I say it's my first time at every place I check in to but here goes, first timer! This place is huge. Open, and wasn't crowded when I went. The servers are fun. This is s very chill, low key place. Located on university ave so there's a lot to do in the area. The drinks are good, the prices are good and an all around fun time. I love SD and the creativity of distilling alcohol... whether it's beer or fruit or even kombucha... FruitCraft is so cool, nothing like it with the dominance of beers in SD. The idea is cool. The drinks tasted very good. The wines weren't too sweet and had good flavors. The mixed drinks with their alcohol was strong and tasted like rum, vodka, tequila etc. We got to try the hard stuff and boy it was strong... We got a variety of drinks- flavored wines, lemon drop, Moscow mule, sangria and cosmo. Super delicious. Reminded of a place in Portland Maine called Mead Works. They make alcohol with honey. This was my second time at this wine bar and I'm glad we had reservations because it was very packed! The space is very airy and has an industrial feel to it. There are a couple of photo ops and patio seating as well. Their wines are made with different types of fermented fruit like mangoes, etc., which is very interesting. We ordered pretty much everything on the menu and tried a lot of drinks! We got the Moscow mule, red sangria, lemon drop, warm brie bites, chicken sliders, nachos with chicken, the full charcuterie plate, house salad, pepper salad, 3 flatbreads, and both desserts on the menu. Everything came out as they were ready, so we were able to pace ourselves. I didn't realize we didn't have any utensils or napkins until I was ready to eat LOL. I'm surprised the staff wasn't prepared for us- we actually had to ask for more chairs for our party too. The food was fresh and pretty good, but nothing really stood out. Their desserts were delicious and cocktails were quite tasty though! We never ended up getting our coffees, but didn't ask for them since we were ready to leave. There was also an event in the private room, so the staff seemed overwhelmed, but accommodating even though they aren't officially open until tonight! This place... Genius. Brilliant. Creative. Innovative. Trendy. Here at FruitCraft, you can delight your tastebuds with the sweet and unique flavors of fermented fruit alcohol. Yes, similar to wine, except instead of just using alcohol from grapes, these innovative masterminds have explored the fermentation of other fruits like mangoes, pineapples, and pomegranate, just to name a few! My friend was invited to enjoy a night with 50% off and she invited me and some other friends to indulge in this crafty fruitiness with her. Their menu consists of fermented fruit section, which was pretty much like wine; a fruit spirit section, which we were told resembled a harder liquor like vodka; and a cocktail section, which included mixed versions of their wines. I got a 3-taste flight of mango, cranberry and pomegranate, and a blueberry mojito. The cranberry was probably my favorite of the three. And the mojito was an incredible mix of their mango wine, pomegranate spirit, blueberries and mint... ahhhh. Delicious. They also had some good bites like hummus, potato things, sliders and flatbreads. The highlight of our visit (other than the many pictures by the 'better together' wall) was a tour of the distillery. At some point in the night they gathered all the guests who were interested in the tour, which was basically an explanation in the other room about how and why they started this business. Very inspiring. The cofounder Alan was a really smart and friendly young dude who knew his fermentation stuff. He explained how the idea of this entire business was founded on the question of "Why only use GRAPES to make alcohols when a ton of other fruits have sugar too???" Really great tour! Very interesting information. I look forward to seeing their menu expand as Alan told us that they continue to experiment with other fruits and recipes. Husband and I enjoyed this place so much, I don't know where to begin. Thought you love kombucha? You don't know until you've had fruitcraft's. Thought you hate kombucha? You don't know until you've had fruitcraft's. These guys have mastered the craft of kombucha brewing. We sampled a variety of the regular and hard ones, and they all taste soooo fresh, so flavorful, and actually TASTY! We particular loved the grapefruit rosemary, and pineapple hibiscus hard kombucha. They had a beautiful aroma and tasted even better than they smell. Food wise, the BLTA had some great flavor. The aioli was creamy and delicious. I didn't care too much for the bread. It was just too dense so the other flavors couldn't shine through. Husband thought the breakfast flatbread was good but one dimensional, it needed a little something something to elevate it. But hey, you're not really here for the food. The spectacular drinks, awesome service, and good vibes are reasons we will come back and tell everyone about this place! read more

This place is super hipster! Beards, man buns, Instagramable wall decor and all. The kombucha was good, it didn't have a strong vinegar taste like other ones I've had. The food was underwhelming and there isn't much to choose from. The part that really bummed me out about this place was our experience. We weren't sure if you seat yourself and order or order at the bar and then sit. Went to the bar first, the told us to get a table and no one ever came. Went back over there and they told us to order at the bar. UHHHH what the heck?!?!? It wasn't busy at all, and we were literally sitting there looking around and NO ONE said anything. I had so much fun at the Elite event that I had to come back to check out their full menu! Street parking was not hard to find around the area. We were seated by the window. Service was great throughout the night. I got the tasting flight for 3 other fruit wine that I had not tried, but I gotta say my favorite was still the Cranberry fruit wine. We also got some food to share and go along with our drinks. My bf loves the nachos, it was loaded with lots of cheese with a choice to add on chicken breast and we did! The Spicy California Sunshine flatbread was delicious, they were generous on the avocado and the cheese. We also shared a half Charcuterie board which was my favorite, they had a good selection of cure meats and cheese. This place is great for couples and also for big groups. Probably my new favorite drink spot in town. Why? Because it is a unique concept, delicious, and the staff are so friendly and personable. I originally came here for a Yelp event and was able to sample a variety of bites and craft cocktails. The owners and staff are so passionate about their business, so I was able to learn a lot about what sets them apart. In essence, all of their wines are made from a variety of fruit.. Other than grapes. My favorite was the mango.. It's a sweet wine.. And it definitely satisfies all cravings for a sweet tasting after work cocktail. This past visit, I had the blueberry mojito, the Moscow mule, and the Manhattan. Each were delicately prepared with fresh fruit, bitters, and garnish. A+ presentation. The taste matched the appearance and honestly these cocktails were some of the smoothest I have had. Again, like nothing I have tasted. It's crazy how these usually hard liquor based cocktails can be concocted with fruit wine.. Refreshing! I sampled some bites.. The California flat bread being my favorite. Just something simple and light to nibble on while indulging with drinks. It had a slight kick with the jalapeño.. And tasted great with my sweet drinks. All in all, I really enjoy this place. Indoor and outdoor seating. You can see where the fermentation takes places.. Kind of like how breweries allow you to see all their equipment. So... a long, long time ago, I tried FruitCraft Wine from Whole Foods. They made a delicious, sweet fruit wine that tasted a lot like Sangria! I remembered the bottle and years later, found this place that replaced Vinavanti. We stopped in for a drink and flatbread on a Saturday afternoon. There is seating inside and outside. We sat on one of the outdoor tables and I enjoyed a flight along with a glass of sangria. The fruit wines are tasty and juicy! They are so delicious!! The flatbread was also delicious! It went perfectly with the wines. They also serve various beers. I have to shout out the customer service here as well. While we were there, a man who obviously had too much to drink from another place came around and loitered around the front. He left but then somehow made his way through the dining area from entering a back door, but the wait staff was so kind to him yet firm. I really appreciated the way they handled the situation in such a respectful manner. Besides that, our waitress was really kind and offered up great explanations and suggestions! This is probably one of my favorites places to have tried. I wished I came by in the afternoon to see the main part but very fortunate to be the few in the morning to sample many flavors, some fruit wine, and hard kombucha. I admired the decor and its simplicity of the fermentery, modern couches and tables. I want to do the membership, I think it's so worth to get but I'm only down here twice a month. I was still able to get a growler however and so I will def visit and make it a regular visit. For Elite week, I was fortunate to be selected, have I not I would've missed this gem. The breakfast flatbread is soo worth trying and I wished to have taken home their pineapple wine! I'll be returning again soon for my refill! read more
