Sunday salsa night was so disappointing. No DJ, poor playlist, and $15 cover. For what? Boo. What happened to the quality?

    What an awesome Jazz Jam!

I was stood up by the owner/manager not once but twice. First time 30 minutes late I had to hear from a 3rd party they she (Alma) was in a Drs appointment that ran longer then she expected. Ok no worries. Second time she made a promise that it wouldn't happen again and low and behold she stood me up a second time and didn't even bother with a follow up call or anything. So called business people like this don't deserve our patronage. Icing on the cake I was trying to spend money with her!!! Don't do it! This owner/manager (Alma) is inconsistent, inconsiderate and unprofessional.

However it's really meant to be that way, very interactive and fun. There are currently 4 levels. LL, 1, 2, and 3. 4 is currently under construction. Lots of San Diego native stuff and facts about where we live. I will say to me it's a little small and everytime something is closed. But still fun to go, I would just aim for a free day if your a local or if your a visitor it's worth to learn about San Diego and natural history.

As of this writing, they're currently under construction raising the roof (no fourth floor access) and renovating the first floor. Currently, access to the building is on the second floor. They are part of the ASTC Travel Passport Program, so if you have an out of town membership to a participating program, you can get free admission here. My favorite part of the museum is a 7.5 minute "film" by a small Airstream RV. It shows the silhouette of two kids in a tent and the adventure covers all the animals they might run into out in the desert. Other things I found interesting were: The fossilized leg and hip bones of an Ankylosaurus that was found locally in Carlsbad. Different preserved animal specimens like a full anaconda skin, a whale vertabrae, a spotted skunk, and a thorny oyster. They're currently working on a fossilized Bison skull and neck Assorted skeletons and models of larger animals. A small section on minerals A giant pendulum I would consider this a medium sized museum where most families would spend around 1.5-2 hours there.

I arrived at 1:15p and it took me 35 min to find parking. As a SD Resident, I had to go online to apply and purchase a $5 Residential Parking permit. It took about 5-6 mins on the website from my phone. In the meantime, while waiting on approval for my residential permit. I had to pay $16 for parking for 2 hrs and 10mins. The show was awesome. The seats were comfortable and we were seated right in the middle of the theatre. The sound, temperature, lighting, and ambiance great here. The only issue that I have is that the 2p show attendees are not allowed to order food at intermission. Food orders must be made on a mobile app prior to going into the theatre for the show, then they are able to pick up their orders at intermission. Overall, the show was wonderful and we were able to meet the cast afterwards as they had to come out for their dinner. We tried not to hold them up, so we just sort of made sure that we let them get going after about 5-7mins. We were able to take photos. I took a star off because of the long stairwell and slow elevator to get to the downstairs restroom. Also, the food situation is a bit disappointing. Luckily, we made reservations at The Prado restaurant after the show.

I love that my brain still thinks I can whip out fouettes, when in reality, I'm far from even 50% as flexible as I once was. But finding the right studio is about getting to have fun and dance. I attended a Jazz Funk class at Play Studio and it was so fun! I appreciated that the class was a challenge. This studio is suited for people with dance experience. While there are likely people here training to dance professionally, there are also people who are just here for fun. But, I like that the classes are at a level that create a challenge and keep your brain moving as you move through the choreo. I hate a boring class and this wasn't the least bit boring at all. The class moved quickly! The vibe was good and it feels like there's a nice community here. I love the variety of options they have and I'm excited to try a pom class next. The studio is located on the second floor of the building. Parking in the area is tough. Although the studio has a parking lot, there are very few spots. I was especially intrigued by the artist in Studio 21, he had these incredible three part paintings he does by hand and I've never felt so much emotion before by an art piece. I really wish I had the money for them because I really would've taken them home with me ;( The botanical building was stunning, it wasn't as big as I thought it would be but definitely beautiful! We also ended up visiting the Timken Art museum and the PostSecrets and Cannibalism exhibits within the last 15 minutes of them being open. Wish we got there earlier so we didn't have to speed through them, but staff was still really nice and everything was so interesting to look at! We went to Panama 66 for a quick drink and bite afterward. Then I walked into the second half -- the Cannibals: Myth & Reality exhibit -- and suddenly the admission fee became worth it. It wasn't some cheap shock-value horror setup either. It was surprisingly historical, psychological, and thought-provoking. The exhibit dives into how cultures throughout history have been accused of cannibalism, how colonial powers often weaponized those accusations, and how survival situations pushed ordinary people into impossible decisions. A few things that stood out: * Stories about shipwreck survivors and stranded explorers forced into life-or-death choices * Historical use of human remains in old European medicine (yes... actual medical "remedies") * Interactive exhibits that make you question where humanity draws moral lines * Pop culture comparisons from movies and folklore versus actual documented history * The fact that the exhibit stays mostly educational and "gore-free," which somehow made it even creepier The craziest part? You leave realizing how much of history is shaped by fear, propaganda, survival, and perspective. Also, the building itself has a wild history. The museum dates back to the 1915 Panama-California Exposition and sits in one of the most iconic buildings in Balboa Park. (Wikipedia) So overall: Main museum = anticlimactic. Cannibalism exhibit = unexpectedly fascinating and absolutely the highlight of the visit.
