BEWARE....the woman/owner behind the register has a terrible attitude. bought a secret santa western blouse for my daughter. the blouse had lots of baseball stitching. my daughter loved the blouse but felt it a tad tight, so we tried to bring it back the day after christmas. a "discussion" then ensued regarding the stitching which had a slightly longer loop than the other stitching. therefore, she could not resell it. the discussion turned more heated than how i normally discuss, when she told me to leave the store. My husband and I visited Frustrated Cowboy this evening in search of a pair of cowboy hats, his as a gift for his upcoming birthday. Not only is this the best business in terms of quality for merchandise, these people are of the highest quality. Last year, I visited Frustrated Cowboy and was excited to purchase quite a haul on vacation, including my favorite opal stud earrings. A year later, my mask projectiled my earring into the ether :( I called Frustrated Cowboy and they sent me 2 beautiful pairs! I cannot express how much this means to me. I graduated college and I'm starting a new job on Monday so this is like a little bit of fortune and kindness to get me started :-) I have worn my Frustrated Cowboy sweatshirt everywhere and get frequent compliments and I love to share my encounter meeting the wonderful people there. Sometimes the best things in life happen when you least expect it. That happened to me today when I stumbled across Frustrated Cowboy earlier this morning after breakfast next door at Americana. We were done with breakfast and friend wanted to check out Frustrated Cowboy while I checked out the newly opened juice bar next to it. I came back finding friend trying on a really cool leather jacket that reminded me of Logan from Wolverine. Not a bad price too for the super soft genuine leather jacket. Carol, the owner, couldn't have been more welcoming and warm. There was no pressure to buy anything and we spoke about how she's been at this location for 17 years! How have I never visited this store. The store specializes in equestrian and cowboy theme attire/gifts/etc. But they also have some items that anyone could wear or purchase. There's a small dressing room in the back. Case in point, I bought a really cute card that I'm going to give to another friend soon. Then I noticed a perfume I fell in love with. It smelled like fresh tangerines and flowers. It was about $35. I wish I could have afforded to buy more items but I was bought two items that I can't to share. Carol gave me a bit of a discount so the total was about $38. I just noticed on Yelp that you get a 10% discount if you show them! This store is a hidden gem with a heart of gold owner. I cannot wait to return when I'm in the area and check out more items from this shop. read more

A friend and I needed some cowboy themed clothes for our other friends birthday party and we visited this cozy shop in Del Mar. We were greeted by a sweet pup and two lovely ladies. They had a variety of merchandise; clothes, hats, boots, bags and trinkets. It was hard picking only one hat but eventually we decided on a hat each matching both of our personalities and a few other trinkets to add to the look. We had the best time exploring and chatting with the ladies. They are some of the kindest and sweetest people you'll ever meet. The Frustrated Cowboy is loaded with the most amazing assortment of clothing, shoes, leathers, jewelry and other decorative western items/accessories at VERY reasonable prices, especially considering how high quality it is. Their leather jackets and shirts are super high quality and Co-owner Carol definitely takes time to stock the shop with really unique designs. She actually said she almost hates selling some items because she selects them with so much thought and care! Must see spot in Del Mar for checking out gear to wear to the races! This is a great little store with a big selection and amazingly reasonable prices! Carol and David are charming and fun - although David is often out riding the range, holding the fort from various "rustlers", etc. The perfect place to find that offbeat and perfect gift for the friend who has everything - however, I often find myself willingly roped at the jewelry section - unique choices of silver, turquoise, and other quality items that I haven't found anywhere else. The two Carols (the other is a bright and friendly employee) are helpful and charming. They always find just that right non-mass-produced gift with a fun Western theme. What can I say about The Frustrated Cowboy? Their boutique type shop is adorable and located in beautiful Del Mar. We came in there looking for a last minute cowboy hat for a last minute job. Coming from the Venice area where you can get a cowboy hat for about $20 their prices were a little higher than what we wanted to pay but despite the situation and the fact that the shop owner offered a Yelp discount we purchased a hat. Carol (at the time we didn't know she was the shop owner) was super helpful and very attentive. During the event the head piece for the hat broke and fell off. The next business day I called Carol and she offered to mail a new piece and after a little conversation we came to an agreement not because she had to but because she values her customers happiness and that speaks volumes about her and her business. I will gladly go back and refer anybody to this establishment, truly a wonderful experience and refreshing to know that there are still those that care about their customers. read more

I am visiting Del Mar and happened to walk by the Frustrated Cowboy before dawn during my daily exercise session. As a Texan and western-wear enthusiast, I was delighted to see the premium brands (Lucchese, Scully, Trina Polizzi, etc) visible through the display window. I returned when the shop was open and was utterly charmed. I spent an hour trying on various gorgeous garments including a one-of-a-kind jacket and a pink, lavendar and gold handpainted one-of-a-kind purse. The customer service was outstanding and the prices were lower than in my usual Houston Galleria area. I highly recommend this boutique. read more
