The music sounded nice. It may have been busier than usual but there was not enough food vendors for the amount of people attending, the lines for the food trucks was ridiculous. I am sure the long line of cars clogging Old Hickory Blvd is annoying to the people that live nearby, it took a while to park It is music, beer, food, field to sit at. $25 admission to this is too steep. With the bugs, the crowd, and the crazy lines for food, It wasnt worth it staying so we left after 15 minutes. Glad we didnt stick around for everyone leaving, the parking situation must be insane to leave. Maybe if the event was a bit more it would be worth the admission a but more. It seems like a missed opportunity to have arts and crafts vendors on site. read more

It's that time of year again--time for Full Moon Pickin' Parties! These are laid back, outdoor, live music (bluegrass) "get togethers" featuring some of Nashville's best known and unknown musicians. Held on Friday nights once a month--around the full moon of course--from May to September, these benefit Warner Parks and all of the wonderful activities they sponsor. Tickets can be purchased in advance for $15 each (kids 6 and under are free, ages 7-15 $10, musicians who bring a bluegrass instrument to play pay only $5) and that includes Yazoo beer as well as non-alcoholic drinks. Food is available for purchase, and is usually BBQ. YUM! There is a stage where 2-3 local bluegrass bands are scheduled to play, but my favorite part is just hanging around the many circles of musicians that bring their instruments and just jam. It's by far one of my favorite summertime activities in Nashville. Want to go? $20 cash at the door (and yes that still includes beer!), and wear comfortable shoes--you park in a field and walk a short way. Also bring your bug spray, some friends, and get ready to relax and hear some of Nashville's best bluegrass music! *This review is as not only a volunteer but an attendee* I learned about the Full Moon Pickin' Party held at the Warner Park Equestrian Center through a professional group for which I am a member. When I first heard of a pickin' party I asked my friend if we would be picking strawberries or blueberries. I soon learned that PICKIN' is referring to banjo pickin'. Although fruit picking would have been awesome too I was so happy to learn that I would get to hear some live bluegrass music. The event is rain or shine and are organized by the Friends of Warner Parks. Prices: Sales the night-of are $25/adult but $20 in advance. This event allows for local musicians to come and join a jam circle. If you bring one of the approved pickin' instruments to jam then you can get a discount in as well ($5/non-drinker and $10/includes beer). A group of us volunteered to work at the admission tents for the first shift of the evening from about 6:15 pm-8:30 pm. When you volunteer for a shift then you get free admission for the event. This was a fun way to interact with guests then we got to enjoy the event afterwards for the rest of the evening. As a side note the volunteer work was easy and to me was worth it to get the free admission. The volunteer coordinator is super nice and easy to work with as well. Dates: The pickin' parties start in May and go all the way through October every year. The dates are set on a Friday closest to the full moon. Event: The location of the event is perfect as there is an open field and ample parking where you can set down a blanket or lawn chairs once inside and enjoy the music and some food/drink. There is a trailer that has the kegs of beer then there are several food truck options as well. The barn is open and you can pop in and see the horses. I saw a lot of people taking their kids to pet them which was nice to see. Everywhere you look there are small jam circles and you can just mingle and listen to the nearest circle. There is also a stage where the planned performances take place and this is where most people choose to set up shop. Tips: -Although kids are allowed I see this as more of an adult event as the beer flows quite freely here. Dogs are allowed as well but again I would probably recommend leaving them at home so you are not worried about your little one the whole night. -Bring cash/check for admission as credit/debit cards are not accepted Verdict: This is definitely something I will do at least once a year if not more! It is convenient for me as a Bellevue resident and the event is very unique and cool as something I had never seen before. read more

My family and I are visiting from Florida and we wanted to enjoy some of what the Music City is known for...music! Since we are only in town a few nights, we wanted to make the best of our time here. We found Full Moon Pickin' Party the night before the event by searching online. It is the exactly what we were looking for. True authentic, Organic, Nashville fun! Great food, beer and blue grass music. Everywhere you walk, you bump into great music. It was a beautiful location, gorgeous night, yummy food, all the soda and water you could drink for free with the price of admission. As well as four free beers with admission for those 21 and over! If you are from the area or in the area, don't miss this event! We took our 9 year old daughter, and she had a blast! read more

Wow, just wow. I've lived on the West side of town since 2007 - within biking distance of the Warner Parks, and somehow it took until this year to end up at one of these very special nights. Seen the signs for years, never bothered to look into it. So, we trundled into here, discovering that all we would have had to do was bring a musical instrument with us to receive a righteous discount. I mean, I have six trombones of various calibers around the house, I could have grabbed one and saved some serious dinero. Not to mention the guitars strewn all over the place. Anywho, we pulled into a field and parked with our pals. Waited in line and got a wristband that got us FOUR BEERS! What?!? Yes my friends, FOUR BEERS. And we aren't talking Bud Lite, we are talking Blue Moon, Yazoo, great great seasonal stuff. And there are coolers full of water everywhere. The night we were there, there were several food vendors, including some BBQ and places that accommodated my sadly vegetarian family for a reasonable price. And Jeni's Ice Cream was there, which is never a bad thing. While we were there, we bumped into a long-time friend and his daughters, one of our son's classmates and her sisters and family, and a few of my son's teachers. So cool that a fantastic field in the middle of nowhere turns out to the the nexus of meeting people in West Nashville. So, it was a gorgeous night, perfect weather, and we all had ourselves a wonderful picnic dinner on a blanket in the middle of a field. I recommend that you bring a good blanket and some nice camp chairs - they'll really come in handy. There were little cloisters of musicians playing about, but the most fun I had was running with my 3-year-old son through fields, playing with glow sticks and glow-necklaces, and enjoying a wonderful night with my kids. I am 100% in love with this event in Nashville. Talk about cool and affordable! You can get in for $20 and listen to all the bluegrass music your heart and ears can take for a little over 4 hours. Also, did I mention your admission includes 4 BEER tickets and free parking! Reduced rates are available for musicians if they bring and instrument in with them, I believe it is only $5, which is an even better deal. There are limitations on what instruments you can bring. So, I would leave the Kazzoo and Recorder behind and bring a banjo or gutair instead. The food vendors are a little slim with just Kettle Corn, Jenni's Ice Cream and Whitts BBQ, but I think you can bring in your own snacks. However, bring money for Jenni's because what goes great with beer....ice cream. This is a very family friendly event too. Lots of people bring lawn chairs and blankets to relax on. People even bring their dogs which is fantastic! The best part of the event is all the money goes to the Friends of Percy Warner Park. So, you get good Karma points and get to have fun, all at the same time! read more

If you enjoy bluegrass music, go. If you *have* an instrument, bring it (even if you don't plan on playing), as it reduces the price of your ticket by $10 ($15 for adults, $5 for musicians). For the price of admission, you get 4 draft beers (tickets are little plastic stubs that they tear off your wrist, so you can only donate beers after you've gone through the line), live bluegrass music on a stage that runs along side the barn and hot picking at the adjacent jams. Get a beer, roam around the grounds from jam to jam and enjoy the music and the (usually almost) full moon. A very Nashville thing to do. read more

Easily the single best way to introduce yourself and your friends to everything that's great about Nashville. We may not have the most amazing food, the best clubs, or the most inspiring art, but we definitely have the best Americana. Admission is cheap, includes all the live bluegrass you could want and four pints of beer, and everyone's friendly. Grab a seat at one of the picnic tables or hang out near the jam sessions behind the barn and get to know the family or the grad students next to you - it's a fantastic place to meet interesting people. To top it all off, you can leave knowing that your admission fee helps to sponsor the Warner Parks and all the great programs they offer the community. If you're visiting Nashville at the right time of the summer months or you're in town for a summer, this is a must-see (many times, if possible). During the winter, Friday nights at Station Inn are a good substitute (better music, less chance of making some new friends). read more

If you are a local or a tourist, you have to experience this at least one time. The whole idea of the party is to celebrate blue grass music and to support the local park system. The entry fee ($20 - which includes four beer tickets) all goes to help support the Friends of Warner Parks. So, you get four beverages and as much music as you can fit into four hours as possible. I have to say that this was one of the great musical experiences that I've had. Perfect setting, great price, and above-all, a great atmosphere. It's all about enjoying the music. And four beers included in the admission price ($20 or less if bought in advance)! There was a talented line-up on stage, but because there are so many other musicians jamming at the same time in various places it is impossible to take everything in, in one evening. Had a great time attending my first pickin' party last night! You get 4 beers with entry, which for the $20 entry fee is super cost effective. Best to carpool with a designated driver if you'll be indulging, but there's tons of free parking. This is a family friendly event- tons of kids running around and also plenty of dogs as well! There's a bunch of food trucks with a decent spread of options including BBQ and Korean street food. The beer was good (options were bud light, blue moon, and a berry shandy), the lines to get it were quick, and they had orange wedges to pair! You can also purchase merchandise there, but bring cash if you'd like to do so. They also had a bunch of other stands set up and were giving out free insect repellent wipes which was greatly appreciated. The music was great, super fun vibes. Full Moon Pickin' Party is one of my absolute favorite things about Nashville. Sitting out on a beautiful summer evening with a beer in hand listening to some great bluegrass music and chilling with friends while the sun sets over the gorgeous landscape of Percy Warner Park. Bring your own chairs or blankets to sit on, and you can bring in your own food or purchase a burger (turkey/veggie/beef), chicken sandwich, or brat that comes with chips and a cookie for a very low price. You can listen to the mainstage or wander around by the barn to listen to impromptu groups jam together. This was so much fun- such a great way to experience Nashville and the local bluegrass music! We found this by accident and luckily we were in town the weekend of a full moon. There is a "main stage" area with a line-up of bands and when you walk around there are little groups of musicians jamming together. We brought a blanket and listened to the main stage for a while before we spent some time walking around enjoying the small groups. Four beers are included in the admission price plus there were a few food trucks around. The crowd is mixed but a lot of the families began to leave as it got later. Dogs are welcome and there were quite a few there - all extremely well-behaved. Parking is free but make sure to get there early as this is a popular event and rightly so! read more

One of the best kept secrets in Nashville. It's a great time, bring your kids, leave them at home.
