From the onset, Catherine allayed all of our concerns from our very first meeting. We were uncertain and of course nervous, however she made us feel so much at ease, as a great deal of our stress was immediately reduced. She was able to co ordinate transporting our father from the east coast, and we were advised of any and all progress throughout. Close to the date of the service she had to step away, so therefore Michelle her manager stepped into her shoes to continue. Again, such excellent service, professional, courteous, kind, thoughtful, and wonderful mannerism from both ladies. On the day of the service, having not seen our father since we saw him in the hospital ICU we were a little apprehensive when we saw him in the casket, and oh my what a phenomenal job they did! He looked so much like he was asleep, and looked decades younger. We were well pleased as even family members and friends were commenting on how wonderful and peaceful Daddy looked. I still want to emphasize that each and every person we came in contact with (at Fuller Funeral Home on Pine Ridge in Naples), from the very first person who opened the front door, until we left there on Saturday 2/21/26 were all so kind, thoughtful, and experienced. I almost felt like it was their family member they were looking after. I want to also thank all the gentlemen who were in attendance at the service, and last but most definitely not the least we would like to thank all of the staff behind the scenes who we did not see or come in contact with, certainly an excellent job very well done! We received the worst service from Jeffrey Tarvin when it came to making arrangements for my Mother…read moreafter her passing. No one notified us when the cremation would take place and when the cremains would be available for pick-up. I had to call no fewer than four times checking on the status for an answer. When I went to pick up my Mother's cremains they had put some of my Mother's cremains in a companion urn that I had purchased for my Father's cremains. I had been told I would be notified when the urn had arrived so I could bring his cremains in to be added to that urn. It's as though he wasn't even listening when we made our selections. I received no apology for this mix-up. Other items that we had arranged for including prayer cards and other personal items were not in the package when I came to pick up Mom's cremains. I had to circle back to remind them that I needed those. I still do not have Mom's cremains, no one is ever available to take my call! When asked for assistance with the obituary I was told that I could just do that myself. I have never received such horrible service especially at such a difficult time. I recommend that you go anywhere else!

I contacted Shikany's and was able to send a very fragile, biodegradable urn to them so I didn't have to travel with it; they were very accommodating. Once I arrived in Florida they transferred my father's ashes from his urn to the biodegradable while I waited. I truly appreciated the help they provided me from a distance and would recommend me in a heartbeat for anyone going through this stressful time.

We used the Beachwood Cremation Society to handle our mother's cremation. They also said they…read morewould place her obituary in various newspapers for us at no charge. We emailed them copy and a photo. When we looked at the wording for the obituary it had two lines included that we did not submit, nor ok prior to publication. When we called the Naples, FL newspaper it was past deadline and they were unable to delete these two lines. It read, "Cremation has been entrusted to The Beachwood Society, 4444 Tamiami Trail N., Naples, 239-261-1767." We were not told ahead of time that this would be included in the obituary. This caused problems with some of our family members. So, actually, it isn't a free service, The Beachwood Society gets a free ad, that the family pays for in the price of the obituary. Beware.

As you can imagine this was a very trying time for us and Dana made it as comfortable as possible from our first phone call right through the end of the process. For anyone who wants to read details of an adult-child experience losing a parent: My mother…read moreendured weeks of poor care at HealthPark Hospital (Ft. Myers) and terrible care at The Terraces (Bonita Springs) before my sister and I made the difficult decision to admit our mother to Avow Hospice in Naples. Thank god someone told us that Avow had just started admitting patients from Lee Country, and thank God a bed was available. Mom was quite suddenly at the end of her life, and we were unprepared to set up proper home care. Mom said she was glad when she arrived at Avow, and the next day she told us she felt the nurses cared about her. Thank you, Avow, for making Mom--and our family--feel safe and supported. They also gave her a drug that truly eased her suffering without causing her to be completely sedated. However, I did clash with one nurse who wanted to increase the dose right away and who implied I wanted to keep my mother alert when she needed to have pain relief. Other nurses and supervisors agreed to a lower dose. I know it's not easy to make these determinations, but don't be afraid to question what's happening and speak to whoever is in charge at the moment. I respect the expertise of health care professionals, yet every nurse will have their own preferences. Prior to Mom's arrival at Avow, she spent weeks at HealthPark hospital and 10 days at The Terraces. Care at The Terraces was just horrible, even when I was right there in the room. This facility is seriously understaffed, and I do feel sorry for the nurses, who are being put in a bad position. (Avoid this place if your loved one is very ill but being discharged and sent to rehab. It might be ok for someone there to rehab from a knee replacement.) Care at HealthPark was more frequent but still poor. My main complaint is lack of compassion, kindness, and professionalism at these places. I know it's easy to find fault, and I know understaffing is a serious problem. and yet health care is a higher calling and sick people deserve attention and care. I say all of this in order to compliment Avow, the only hospice I can report on. Nurses came frequently, they were compassionate to Mom and us. Thank you. Kindness was abundant and staff respected the gravity of the situation. My sister and I were impressed by the priest who made rounds. He was personal, and he wanted to know all about Mom's life. He wasn't put off when we told him that none of us, including Mom, still went to mass, and he didn't pressure us to do anything. I like to think Mom was comforted by the last rites he provided. Why not a 5 star review? A couple reasons: the TV/cable sitution is not great. This might sound unimportant, but my mother was awake and alert two evenings and wanted to watch TV. She said this. But there were many issues with the clicker, settings, and stations. Several staff tried to trouble shoot, but no one could solve the problems. Several stations were on the guide but not subscribed to, including, Turner Classic Movies, a channel that would provide a lot of comfort and familiarity to many patients. Another complaint is about follow through: during the one afternoon Mom was totally aware, she asked for her bed to be wheeled outside on the lanai. The nurse said she had to do something and would be right back but didn't return. So Mom never got to view the beautiful lake. Finally, the night Mom died, my sister and I felt pressured to call a funeral home immediately and to leave quickly. We felt we didn't have enough time with our mother and to gather up our things. It was the middle of the night, so I really don't understand why everything had to happen so quickly. We were in shock, devastated, and shouldn't have even been driving. Despite my criticisms, I believe the Avow facility is excellent and the staff are great. I am glad we brought Mom to the Naples location. I've also received many texts offering to provide support, and I appreciate that, too. I hope some of the shortcomings I've pointed out will be addressed for future patients and their loved ones.
