The VITAS 'sales' staff we met at the hospital could not have been nicer and more accommodating. The move from the hospital back to her assisted living home appeared seamless. The VITAS chaplain and his assistant that we met there were incredible, honoring her with a beautiful 'ceremony' in appreciation for her military service. That was the end of anything good. For the next 5 weeks, until her passing, we NEVER heard a word from the visiting nurse/staff/VITAS people?.....NEVER!! We called VITAS to tell them we were not hearing anything and were told we would be contacted. They did not. We visited her several times in that time period and knew she was declining quickly, but still NO reports about her. On the day she passed, we were in her room and discovered her comfort bed (to ease her pain) was unplugged (who knows how long), that the mat that had been used to transport her from the hospital to the facility was STILL under her and should not have been and the oxygen machine we had seen in her room the day of her arrival was NOWHERE to been found!!! Most atrocious thing was the VITAS nurse was UNABLE!!!! to obtain morphine commonly used in end of life situations!!!!!!!!!!! This was so horrific and unacceptable!!!! VITAS has called us several times to apologize for all this, admitting it should have never happened. As I write this I become furious at what they did and did not do. THIS IS THEIR ONLY JOB TO CARE FOR A SOUL WITH HOURS TO LIVE AND THEY FELL UNEQUIVOCALLY SHORT.

The Dr. had called and told them we are on the way. Once that glitch was fixed, they started to do all the tests to verify the stoke. Unfortunately, she had a stroke and lost 25% of her vision. The nurses, Dr., and specialist were all very understanding and sympathetic to our situation. One of the most important tests is the echocardiogram. Which took us two days to get. They said they were backed up. Yeah, or they forgot? Anyway, once we had the echocardiogram and there was no damage to the heart we could leave and start making appointments for after care.

I was repeatedly interrupted and was not allowed to fully explain my symptoms or concerns. Every time I tried to ask a question, I was cut off before I could finish. As a patient, I expect to be treated with respect and given the opportunity to discuss my health. A physician's knowledge is important, but so are professionalism, communication, and basic courtesy. Unfortunately, none of those were reflected in this visit. I left the hospital frustrated, unheard, and without confidence that my concerns had been properly considered. Based on my experience, I would not recommend Dr. Lima to anyone who values a physician who listens, communicates, and treats patients with respect.

A very big THANK YOU to Ydira who was mom's care giver at the Beach House in Naples (FL). She said everything was fine but he was actively dying and had maybe a few hours to live. She said she didnt see his Funeral arrangements (nobody asked when we admitted) and space was limited in the mourge (she stressed space in the mourge several times) and tried to pitch funeral homes to me. All while talking over me trying to tell her we prearranged and prepaid for a funeral 10 years earlier. After she stopped trying to aggressively sell me a funeral and heard what I was saying she got even more demanding and arguementive. Then demanded the funeral homes contact. I said I would call them in an hour or so when they opened (out of state one time zone back) just to double check who needs called (shipping company because of the nature of moving a body) to double check for sure. I had to make that statement in rapid order at least six times to shut her up. Then I confirmed the information and called it into the office (equally bad experience, tried avoiding taking the information) . Then after my dad passed and fishing for reviews I was contacted and gave a piece of my mind. A few days later a Supervisor called and apologized. Asked if I would be happy if they sent the nurse to sensitivity training. I chuckled and said she has no business being an RN in an inner city ER nurse let alone a hospice nurse. She was the most argumentative medical professional I ever seen, I would even call her aggressive
