This review is long overdue! I had been working out on my own at the gym for about a year before starting crossfit and even with what I do at the gym doesn't compare with what you get from crossfit. At times when you want to quit the WOD you have your people at the box cheering you on to finish! Coach Mark pushes you to do your best and has so much patience. I love the fact that his main concern is your form and safety before you go heavy! And the people at FGCF are so friendly, makes you feel so welcome from day one! So much fun! Visit FGCF and thank me later :)

Looking for an early workout to get your dose of endorphins? It's affordable and fun! Coach Weiser has created a fun way to workout that gets me out of bed at 8am on a Saturday (and I'm not a morning person). Past sessions have included individual and partner workouts and sometimes involve obstacle courses which are my fave! His positive attitude and humor make the sessions fun and worth going back. (I know it's called boot camp, but who the heck likes getting yelled at?) Tips: Each session is at 8am on Saturdays, but email to confirm. If you're new, arrive 10-15 minutes early for registration. Bring Water or a reusable water to fill.

For starters, they have an extensive list of classes that happen before, during and after work hours. Classes range from yoga, spin, zumba, abs, cardio circuits, etc. They are all free and you just need to walk in/get a number. There's also a basketball court where you can play basketball (duh), badminton, indoor soccer and more. Sometimes the court is closed off for classes though, so just gotta check the schedule. Like any other gym, they have a crap ton of cardio equipment. Treadmills, ellipticals, stairmaster, bikes... you name it. You can get your cardio in at almost any given time cause there's just so many to use. As for the weights area, it's pretty nice, but leaves some to be desired. There is a double squat rack setup that forces people to look at each other. Kinda awk. At least they have a powerlifting platform with bumper plates! The only problem with that is, as of recent, there is a sign on the platform stating that they might remove it due to noise complaints. Seriously? People complain about grunting and loud noises at a gym? -_- Anyways, the equipment are very well kept and people tend to actually rack the weights in the right place, which makes everything easily accessible. There are a bunch of trainers here who all know their stuff. They get a little anal about a few things though... One they don't allow the use of excessive chalk because it gets all over the floor. They asked me to clean up chalk on the ground before even though it wasn't mine. wtf? Another thing is that they don't allow recording in the gym. I don't get why. I saw a bunch of people recording and when I did it, they asked me to stop cause it's not allowed. Idk. Overall, pretty cool gym for employees. Can't wait for the new spot to open up on campus though.

**THIS IS STRICTLY REGARDING MEMBERS WHO ATTEND THIS GYM**…read more i've been a member for a good year in a half and in the recent month, there's been two incidents where people have been rude and it honestly has been reconsidered my member ship at this gym/location.. my first incident was w| a teenager who thought I didn't have manner and didn't say "excuse me" while trying to pass her and her mother. i quick handled that because I was raised w| manners. also i'm sure she assumed i was not an adult till i turned around. the second incident was w| an OLDER man. i had been waiting for the water massage bed, as it was occupied. i didn't mind because i had some time to wait before i had to leave. once the person was done i went and put my water and towel and asked the went to ask the worker to turn it on/start it up. as i was walking out, the older man was walking in, the worker then informed me he didn't know and that he told the older man it was free, but to just tell him you've been waiting and he can go next. fine. i POLITELY went to him and told him how i had been waiting and i was next... NEVER did i expect to be met with such hostility and attitude from a MAN to a FEMALE. i then decided it was absolutely not worth it and left. I did inform the worker how rude he was (i actually said he was a f**king a$$hole) -- i honestly wanted to cry cause my personal life has been a mess and THIS just sent me over. the worker didn't say anything to the guy which i guess isn't his responsibility? but i'm just confused why people are SO RUDE, MEAN, and MOODY when i thought the gym was a positive space ? i just wonder if there's a way to like prevent this from happening again.

I chose PF and opted for the Black card membership for these reasons: -Gym will not be my main form of fitness, but as a supplement, so I don't need a fancy gym with amenities I will never use, which is costly. -The Black card membership gives me flexibility to work out while I travel or visit my folks. So far, I've been to 2 different PF locations, including this one in San Bruno. I went during the Thanksgiving holiday, so it was not that busy. Even though this is likely to be the least busy this location will be in the late afternoon, it was still pretty tough to get access to the strength training exercises and machines without waiting a little bit. Very limited number of benches, cable machines, and 3 Smith machines. I would not want to come here during peak post-work hours unless all I wanted to do was use a treadmill. Also, I noticed a lot of maintenance was being neglected: broken lockers, half the toilets in the ladies' room were out of order, empty paper towel dispensers, and empty disinfectant spray bottles. One of the stairmaster machines was broken. Compared to my experience at the San Jose location I went to, which was maintained and clean and honestly impressive for a PF gym, I wouldn't care to come back to this location again. I know PF is a budget gym, but I'm not asking for much! It was a slow day, just please refill the paper towels and spray bottles at least?

From the start, everyone has been incredibly welcoming and supportive. My first class was with Head Coach Raquel, who was super friendly and helpful. She took time after my intro class to go over my stats and patiently answer all my questions, which made a great first impression. I originally started with an 8-class/month membership, but upgraded to unlimited when I signed up for the Transformation Challenge in January. While challenges sometimes require an extra registration fee, I highly recommend them -- they're a great way to stay motivated and committed to your goals. The studio staff is also wonderful. They're always helpful, whether it's handling late arrivals, class cancellations, or loaner OTBeat Burn monitors. I really appreciate how accommodating they are. One thing I've noticed is how strong the community is -- a lot of members seem to know each other and have built friendships here. While I haven't made friends with other members yet, the fact that coaches (Raquel, Victoria) and staff (Lawvan, Ivan, Aidan) remember my face makes me feel welcome and seen. If I had to note a couple of areas for improvement, the treadmills feel a bit dated -- the built-in fans blow a bit of dust even after cleaning -- and the InBody scanner used for the Transformation Challenge is more of a consumer-level version, unlike the professional-grade ones I've seen at other studios. Hopefully those are things the studio can upgrade over time. That said, this place is still my favorite part of my fitness routine. The friendly atmosphere, supportive coaches, and helpful staff keep me coming back. I'm so glad I found this studio!

Overall I think if this exact same gym would move to the center of San Francisco it would get tons of new members because Crunch doesn't lack in any gym equipment. The only thing they really need do is to remodel the locker room, bathroom and showers. This location attracts a certain crowd. And they are kinda ghetto when it comes to the sauna. They walk in with full clothes on, leave their plastic bottles their, walk in with their shoes and so on. This has been going on for years. The staff knows about it but don't care. If I was running the gym I'd enforce strict rules. Follow it or we shut down the sauna. Because it's freaking nasty. Anyway, this gym is pretty good.
