This review kinda hurts me to give because I have been with TD Bank for nearly a decade, have a…read moreblind loyalty to them because when I open an account with them, they were the only ones that welcomed me with open arms when every bank wouldn't get anywhere near me. Let's just say at that point of my life if someone ran my credit, they ran the risk of getting their computer repossessed. Since then a lot has changed for better, and banks lenders and creditors now beg me to use their lines of credit, and to be honest the change all started with opening this account with TD.
Now this two star has nothing to do with the only branch...5 STARS alll day for the staff there, friendly, knowledgeable, and I always end up staying for an extra 10-15 minutes just chopping it up with them before I leave. So I wanted to make that very clear before I go onto my current experience which really surprises me.
I understand that banks need to be precautious to protect themselves, us customers, and maintain a safe environment for transactions. So I am all about being thorough. With that being said I've always maintained a good standing with my accounts, which are two checking accounts, and a savings account, constantly moving money between all three of them, and mostly only depositing into one account and the living the money accordingly from there. So I deposited a mobile check for a decent amount that was given to me from a family member that is so graciously helping me with some major repairs to my work truck. Typically my funds are available the very next day, but for some reason they put a 6 business day hold. I get it, it's happened before, for whatever reason the algorithm either doesn't like something so it kicks it to a human. Now the process is this, per TD bank, you call customer service, they send you to the fraud department and then they due their diligence...I totally understand this, have gone through this process for whatever reason, maybe the check had some werid crease, it's a personal check from the bank of USSR ( joking, and if you don't get the joke you're probably a Gen z'er). In my case I think I thought it was one of two things, there's a new box to check if you do a mobile deposit that it totally missed and don't check off or it could've been because the person who wrote the check started to write the date like the whole rest of the world does by putting the day first then the month, then just put a "1" over the "3" which was for the 30th of October. Either way we can resolve this, the check was from HSBC written by a Doctor, who is highly ranked in the military (retired) and makes top tier money.
Now to my experience...
I call customer service, as always they are willing to help, I love that from TD especially if you call from the app. They transfer me to fraud, and in less than 45 seconds they ask me "tell me about this check" I'm honest and say it's for my truck I had my transmission rebuilt and it was given to me to help me get back to work (I'm in the trades my truck is my office and when calculated every day my truck is in operable it costs me $550). And then after about 5 seconds of silence she said "ok you'll get a secure message in your app within two hours and if the funds aren't released by end of business then they will be held for the full 8 days". At this point I know it's not getting released. This has happened to me before a couple times and every other time they say " Mr Leite your funds are released" so when I didn't hear that I was nervous.
To make a long story short, for something that with a little diligence from the representative ( oh this was 7:15 in the morning and she sounded like she just woke up) and my complete willingness to verify to the fullest extent and at their disposal, I was not given that opportunity and now my funds are holding, I can't get my truck, and the shop is charging me a storage fee now of $100. I tried to escalate, and all they did was credit some stuff to my account. The supervisor really seemed like they wanted to help but here we still are
There a lot of fraud these days and I'm all about protecting yourself and others, and everyone's explanation is "oh this randomly happens and can happen with any check" I'm like cool!!!! But put a freaking human on there who cares about doing their job right and making sure that us non-crooks don't have to suffer for all the fraudsters.
For this TD I give you a 2 star...I'm taking my check to their proper institutions from now on to cash them, and I'll even pay the ridiculous fees at the liquor store.
Thanks for letting me rant
