If you want really good CNAs and Drs for your aging parent this is not the place. Communication is horrific with both.

' It was the best decision I ever made'.    I must say we were very apprehensive about the idea of sending my sister to a nursing home, but.Ozanam Hall was a wonderful choice. The staff at all levels were caring.  We are especially grateful to nurse Jean,  who was so helpful and positive,  to the Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy staff, especially Mary Jane who handled my sister's PT and to the manager of the Rehab department, who was very helpful. and to  so many others.   The Carmelite nuns were especially welcoming  and thoughtful   For those who are Catholic, there is a  daily Mass and communion is offered, if you cannot go to Mass. The environment was very positive. There is also a lovely outdoor garden to relax in as well as  2 resident cats,  a rabbit and 2 birds.   My sister  felt at home (very comfortable and cared for)  and was able to gain the strength she  needed to return to her home.  Our thanks to all at Ozanam Hall

During a visit-she presented a concern about her clothing, and I went to the desk to find an explanation. I tried to speak with the nurse who spent a great deal of time attempting to ignore my presence at the unit desk/counter. After I garnered their attention simply by calling out "Hello Nurse", I discovered they practiced a type of nursing that most people would find objectionable and resist in our modern world. I really thought Nurse Ratchet was a thing of the past- BUT I was wrong. The nurse was rude, and resistant. I believe by the nurse's behavior was a demonstration of a standard and not an exception to the rule. In my protest I was visited by the administration- (DON probably) but that wasn't helpful, but it was packed with an immediate response. I didn't ask for an apology, or any other actions, I just wanted to be informative. The main reason I engaged in the awkward conversation with this administrator, was to reveal something serious but I didn't feel satisfied that it would create change or cause an immediate address. Afterward I felt a pit in my stomach and uncomfortable leaving my aged loved one, defenseless, and feeble in the care of those who didn't mind shouting at me being healthy, robust, and able to voice my concerns. I could only imagine what type of treatment my grandmother had experienced in my absence and how much she'd be willing to tolerate if left alone with unsympathetic staff. I questioned to what extent this behavior and bad customer service presented. I would still recommend it to anyone, because the atmosphere is calm and clean. You can tell it was created out of an abundance of concern for the sick and shut in but the staff is not as compassionate as the facade suggests. I would only recommend it for families that will be an active and present while their loved one stays at Ozanam. Create a shift for loved ones to show up all day or even hire a trusted person to sit and help your loved one while they stay.

Our primary thought behind out of home treatment was based on a on going infection which we chose to have round the clock monitoring. *ADMINISTRATORS- Admissions Director PJ was our first contact. He provided a tour without an appt (walk in) as well as an in depth summation of the organization, services and resources. PJ was consistently in communication, available , responsive, supportive and followed all the way through on all our needs outside of admissions. Samantha who assisted us with Medicare awareness and Medicare file management to best suit our family needs. Johana & Samantha reflect the leadership for sure. *NURSING- Director Elaine we also made acquaintance on day 1 tour. She was friendly & welcoming. She had great questions about our medical needs. We communicated our goals & expectations. She was extremely receptive & supportive through to the end. Assistant Director Bambi certainly follows leadership. She attended our frequent meetings for update. Thank you to the entire team. *OCCUPATIONAL & SPEECH THERAPY. Director Namesh. One miscommunication. It was not clear of the process to take our family out for follow ups. We over came quickly and professionally. Thank the young man who trained us on how to place our family into the minivan. (Braids or dreads, we regretfully did not get his name). We can say that the team here will secure your loved one. We saw concern. Thank you. *SOCIAL SERVICES - Susan is leadership here. She was available upon our admission from the hospital. That's when we met. Susan is always available. She responds to email quickly. I did not have her direct extension so I emailed. She responded or showed up at the room to speak with us. Thank you. *DAILY CARE- Judy is our favorite of the bunch. Judy we are so thankful for bathing Dad, clipping his nails, your genuine patience with him, shaving his beard and dressing him. May the Good Lord Bless you and your family with Abundant Favor for your display of care. *LOCATION: Situated on a very narrow residential street. Pro-Private parking is available behind the building. Pro-Provides well light parking area. Cons- trash incinerator leaks drainage which obstructs the walkway from parking area to the building. Yikes! We suggest moving that compactor to another location asap. It's creepy & foul even in the winter. *ENTRANCE:Always secured with a friendly greeting. Weekends included. Check in and check out is consistently done. The driveway is always accessible. Given a designated area for pick up and drop off which made it easy to bring our family member in/out for follow up doctor visits. *CLEANLINESS:Parking- was lots snow so we did not observe trash cleanup. *Entrance, Lobby, Gym, Communal Recreational Room & hallways - always clean free from debris starting early morning to evenings. No odors. *Room- we would give a thumbs up here. Continuously kept. No odors. No dust. All equipment and furniture are functional and in great condition. Side note, warm and toasty during the winter. No drafts. Room curtain are there for privacy. *ROOM BATHROOM- was maintained but can be better. Our first shared patient was great. We understand that each occupant has different needs, however our with second shared patient had an orange/yellow residue left in the restroom. We had residue in the tile grouts and a left over odor after cleaning. *FOOD:To our surprise, the food was tasty and presented well. (Yes, we tasted what they served to our family). Kudos to the food & beverage team for consistent , above average meals. Service times are consistent and food is hot at service. Kudos to the 1st floor team who we observed multi tasking to ensure food service was not disrupted every day. OVERALL, this organization provided services beyond our expectations. We are a very involved & active family. Day in, day out, every hour of the day, we had a positive experience.
