The instructors and most of the students here are very friendly and welcoming. There is no machismo here, and attitude is usually not tolerated. This makes for a very friendly and comfortable environment to learn and train. The instructors here are very experienced in their art and very approachable. If I have a question or I'm unsure about something, I will ask Sensei Kyle and he always takes time to thoroughly explain or clarify. I've trained at other schools in the past, but what makes Sensei Kyle's teaching stand out from other martial arts instructors is his level of detail to attention; he is very technical with his explanation of techniques. This is very good and rare, because he can go over the fine details that a student is lacking in order to help them further improve. The facilities is always kept clean and the mats are steam cleaned every week. Shihan Funakoshi, who is the head instructor, teaches the adult classes from Tuesdays through Thursdays. He has about fifty years of experience in karate, and offers very insightful instruction. Shihan's advance classes tends to be physically demanding and rigorous (you will get a good workout), whereas the general class tends to focus on the basics and fundamentals. For those that are on the fence about joining, you should definitely come check out a class or two. They also have a beginners special which is $99, it includes a free uniform and two months of training.

Met Theresa and Sensei Kyle last night to register my daughter for a class. As soon as you walked into the establishment, you can sense great ambiance and good vibes. They were the kindest person we've ever met and they welcomed us whole heartedly. My daughter was so excited to get started, that is priceless... She loves Theresa and would not stop telling her Dad about her experience with her. Highly recommended!!!

Since we joined the class. They grew in less than a year. They were kind enough to have two classes and allowed the parents to select the class. Since I prefer to sit through the entire class I have to go in early to acquire a chair lol. There are several trainers who constantly watch the steps closely for the advance students and new ones. The exams held every two months is very motivating for the students.

It been 2-3 years here and I kinda like it . Especially KJN sandy she has been a wonderful and supportive head instructor and she really welcoming and want people to success . The reason why I join MMA WCWMA Milpitas is because my parent found this place for $10 for 10 days deal and so I like how clean this place is . The instructors are positive and very welcoming. So when I join on my first white belt to black belt journey I got to scream loud with energy opening my commitment belt . I seen so much change in myself in my energy and how much sweat I have that I didn't have before I join . During martial arts here in West Coast Milpitas Ernie Reyes , I knowtice how easy martial arts journey from the beginning is , and basically learning something new and trying to do the technique faster and memorize. I made new buddies and I started to practice like my instructors advice . I couldn't be thankful to have met these cool instructors and martial artist that have influence my life . I know how long 4 years or 3 year's journey to earning a black belt is when it's hard and you have to overcome it . I practice and there's time I think I never made it to a new belt and I know how stressful that is when kids already made it to a new belt while I didn't . That when I know I had to practice and listen to music and relax and try to tell my body I will be fine and I just need practice . I try to be more positive instead of negative. When I'm negative i know I will get bad luck on something. So I try harder in those moments and I achieve myself stripes and I become more positive. Mistakes are just tiny and that I could fix them through out practice. I pray to god everyday to give me a good life and martial arts . I did and I love god and appreciate what I got when I practiced , positive , and pray. I would cry a little or just get nervous because of how hard it is but I master through it and I'm so proud of myself and West Coast Milpitas for being in my life and dedication. I would recommend here , it just that the instructors are welcoming and they are very nice and gentle . There practice needed in this karate system and it will fix mistakes . I know martial artist who show commitment will have to overcome challenging levels and intensity . It will be fine and just be positive and pray and try to practice . I didn't believe it till I do martial arts I begin having full energy and positivity and basically good character after I join . Karate is my ohana and part of me and I would like to thank every martial artist that I had taught me through this and has been part of my life . "When you spend time with someone then that will make them positive with you and get to know you more and you will get along with them ". It will take time here and don't rush , just practice over and over again you will be fine . They will make you physically ,emotionally , spiritually, and to have a good character. Just trust in karate and you will see throughout martial arts life and commitment how much impact you make in them and how much friendship and love you gave to them during your time . Karate will boost confidence and it will make you feel positive and happy throughout life . West Coast Milpitas is a great happy training place with fun activities to do. How I get to have fun in karate during my training is to train hard for it , it one of my instructor advice SBN Jose. Kjn Ernie Reyes thank you for dedication of your program it help me alot . Couldn't ever be thankful to have your program West Coast Milpitas in my life . I always pray, show love and have karate by my side throughout hard times .

Each day I pick up my kids from their practice, they are excited to tell me what they've learned and show me their cool new moves. I appreciate the discipline that is taught; it aligns with our kid's life goals. We recently had our 5 year old join. I was a little nervous for his young age and the fact that he has a speech impediment. Although I know both reasons might be more of a challenge for him, the way he is treated equally with respect, compassion, and discipline, shows he is in the right place as well. The exposer to another adult's instruction helps develop his speech. I learned that Cantrelle's Martial Arts has been around for about 20 years or so now and I can attest their business ethic proves what they offer is excellent. It would be amazing to have a bigger waiting space for parents with smaller children to help avoid the distraction of the students, but other than that Cantrelle's Martial Arts has my 5 star all the way!

What I really liked about this gym was the variety of classes they offer. You can try different types of workouts and figure out what you enjoy without having to commit right away. They also let you borrow gloves and other equipment for free during the trial classes, which I thought was a really nice touch. I ended up trying the HIIT and DEKA classes, which were my favorites, and most of the coaches I had were really great. Unfortunately, my experience with one of the kickboxing classes wasn't as good. I specifically asked multiple times beforehand if it was okay that I was a complete beginner, and I was told that it was totally fine. However, when I showed up, pretty much everyone else already knew what they were doing, so I naturally felt a little intimidated. I also wasn't given much guidance despite being a first-timer. What really bothered me was that the coach called me "silly" when I wasn't able to follow the instructions. I understand that a fast-paced class can be challenging for beginners, but I didn't think making fun of someone who was trying something for the first time was appropriate, and it definitely put a damper on the experience. One other thing I wish they had was a proper locker room or changing area. They have gender-neutral bathrooms, but they didn't feel clean or comfortable enough to change clothes in, especially if you're coming straight from work. I really liked the variety of classes and the generous trial period, and most of my experiences with the coaches were positive. I just wish the beginner experience was a little more welcoming and that they had a better space for changing.

It's like what a real old school gym is like - no classes... you walk in and warm up and the Kru and Sr. Instructors come up to you and provide you with one on one instruction. Honestly, if your goal focus is to compete then this is NOT the gym for you - not saying there is anything wrong with training to compete - but this gym isn't for that! But if you want to sharpen your ring technique - in addition to going to where ever it is that you train now - then by all means come here and learn this style. But like i said... if your sole purpose for training is to compete, Muay Thai Academy is not the gym that will be out there trying to get to fights. Here we focus more on techniques that are more applicable to real life, self-defense, protection, law enforcement, etc - but with the Muay Thai twist to it. So what I am saying is.... Muay Thai Academy is very welcoming with a team of experienced instructors that you won't find anywhere else. I wanted a place that kept the authenticity and integrity of Muay Thai and I found it here.

There is a reason people have come from around the globe to seek instruction here -- it's just that unique. While 'Muay Thai' is in the name of the school, it is merely the foundation of the principle art taught here: Close Quarters Combat. Close Quarters Combat is a combination of several martial arts (old style Muay Thai known as Muay Chao Chur, the military style known as Ledrit, as well as Boar Bando and Kalaripayat, a Burmese and Indian Combat Art) and is designed for street applications: law enforcement, VIP Protection, multiple opponent, military, and self defense. They can teach "ring style" as well, but sport/competition is less of a focus here. In addition to hand-to-hand combat, bladed and stick weapons training are also available. Instruction takes place in a free-form, semi-private format. With the exception of a conditioning class here and there, there isn't a structured class setting like you'll find at other gyms. The Academy is open from 5pm to 9:30, M-Th and late Saturday morning/afternoon, and you can go in any time during those hours and train for as long as you'd like or can handle. Instructors and Junior Instructors walk the floor, answer questions, setup drills, and help you work through techniques on an individual basis, then let you try them out on your own or with others. The Instructors are all top notch, have been working together for years, yet still have varied backgrounds and unique methods of teaching. Collectively, the knowledge they can impart is unmatched in any martial arts school in the area. I've trained here for the last several years off and on (my hectic work/travel schedule and frequent basketball-related injuries keep me from going as regularly as I'd like) and can't recommend it enough if you're a self-motivated, hard-working individual looking for unique, personalized martial arts training with street-applicable, self-defense focus from some of the most experienced combat technicians around. It is a real privilege to live in the same vicinity as this school.
