The back entrance and lack of signs kept us searching around for a little while. The concierge was nice but definitely the least friendly of the 7 hotels we stayed at in the past week. The cleaning staff showed much better hospitality. Highlights: 1. Kurig coffee machines in the rooms! 2. Deep end pool (9ft) and giant jacuzzi 3. Clean gym with great equipment/tv 3. Hot breakfast (Get the breakfast patties! Sooo delicious. Stay away from the pancake machine though. It takes wayyyy too long and makes flat/burnt pancakes) 4. Free wifi

Anyway, this hotel had to be one of the nicest that I've ever stayed in. (It really does deserve at 5 star rating but my anti-hotel feelings prevent me from doing so.) The front desk people were extremely nice and so were the other guests. I met some pretty cool bikers that liked my suitcase. They were nice guys. The room was a standard double bed room and it was very clean and quiet. The beds were huge and comfortable. The shower was very nice with a traction floor and what I think was a sauna feature. The room had a Keurig machine, complimentary wi-fi, table with two chairs, desk and T.V. with many appropriately placed lights. I didn't go into the pool but the people there looked like they were having a good time. Finally, the morning complimentary breakfast was actually really delicious. I made a sausage and omelet bagel sandwich and had orange juice, a banana, milk, and yogurt. In addition, they had english and french newspapers lying around. J'ai été très heureux. Finally, the parking lot has a lot of space and the check-in/check-out took less than two minutes. A little out of my price range for a regular stay but when I'm older I would go back.

I'm not sure the ratings on motels and in most cases, I like spending the extra cash for a hotel…read morebut when it's 11:30pm and you have no reservations anywhere, let me just say that this place is a diamond in the rough. A fluke that I ended up here because the road that it's on is filled with motels but for 2 double beds, your own kitchen and bathroom for $90 with tax/night, it's not bad at all. This place is only rated as a 2 star motel; there's no air conditioning but it's pretty cool in there. Saint John is generally cooler and there's a ceiling fan and a stand up fan in your room. I had Room 12 which again, had 2 double beds but also a fold out couch. The place does give breakfast but it's not like eggs and such. It's cereal, coffee and a few pastries. It's fine if you don't care that much. My party had 4 people that needed to sleep and with a McDonalds just down the road, it was no biggy. Anyway, the owners keep the place clean, they are very friendly and are there to help with whatever they can (tourism, questions, etc.). My only real complaint about this place is that you can't reach the office via phone inside the room.... main reason because they don't have one in there. You have to reach them via a toll free number. Otherwise, if you're looking to save some money, come check out this place. Sure I didn't get to look at any other rooms but if you need space for 4+ people, ask for room 12.

Down sides: the desk is dominated by a microwave, and is not suitable for any kind of work, and there are some of the expected maintenance issues one will find in a private hotel.

From the window you can watch people walking around the board walks, the buskers performing, and the ships moving in and out of the harbor. Although the pricing was great - there were a few things that were bothering me. I booked online saying that breakfast was included. I always get places that offer some sort of breakfast. When I got to the desk they said that it was NOT included and it would be $20 Per person. I also asked for a bottle of water , after seeing another guest get handed 2 bottles. So even though I had signed up for Hilton Honors I was ineligible for both of these perks. Another thing that bothered me was that there were only 2 bath sized towels. I had booked for 2 adults and a 15 year old. I've never stayed at a place that only left us 2 towels. There is a fee for parking. $25 with in and out privileges. $18 for just leaving your car there until the end of your stay. Be sure to get the ticket validated if you want but the in and out access. We're from the US. We tried multiple times to pay at self pay kiosk #3. We swiped , tapped, everything. We decided to just pay at the exit. Same thing. We inserted our ticket, our debit cards. Nothing. The arm was already up so we just left. Toiletries are in full sized bottles. The sink was really over powered. Opening it the slightest bit was like turning on a garden hose on full blast. The water would splash everywhere and I had to place one of the hand towels on the counter to keep the water from pooling and spilling into the floor. With that being said you would think that the shower would have nice pressure. It did not. It looked like some of the water came out of the bottom faucet even though we activated the shower head. I've included some videos. Over all this place was ok but expect all of the extra charges.

I would not hesitate to book here or the same room again. The room was super clean and nice. We enjoyed the fridge, coffee maker, nice desk and other amenities. We don't make it to the restaurant on the main floor. The staff at the hotel was very nice and efficient.

We spoke to them them three weeks ago that we were having a birthday party and NO MENTION OF A 250$ charge. absolutely ridiculous. our room was left clean and zero damages done. Drunk idiots cause more problems then the 5 seven year olds we had. the other staff at the hotel was lovely. cleaning staff was great, front desk lady was kind. Management is the problem there and their "unwritten policy" that no one can show and produce. shameful

If you…read moredon't have a car, I wouldn't recommend staying here but rather uptown where you can find a Hilton or Delta. Parking stalls around the hotel are free and there are a number of doors to enter with your room card. The front desk staff are overall friendly except for one person. They provide coupons to local restaurants which is very helpful. The room had a large and comfortable bed, large bathroom with 2 person shower (but no tub), and desk with computer chair. I also liked they had free wifi. The breakfast is included in our hotel rate and I was very impressed with the variety and food temperature. They had coffee and tea, hot food like eggs, pancakes or french toast, ham, bacon, or sausage. They rotated the hot food which I really liked so we didn't have to eat the same thing every day. There's a wide selection of muffins, english muffin, bread for toasting, and mini cinnamon buns. There's fruit salad, fresh fruit, yogurt, cereal, and juices. The breakfast is so hearty we really didn't have to eat lunch. My husband used the pool and the covered slide. There were lots of children that enjoyed the slide. The pool isn't very deep so it's not good for swimming laps and more for the slide use. There's also a hot tub which is nice. There were a few glitches along the way. The cleaning staff aren't always prompt cleaning your room, usually sometime in the afternoon. One night there were guests that were extremely noisy early in the morning. I let the front desk staff person know and she offered a reduced rate for that evening which was great. This is one hotel that I would stay again.

All the servers were excellent; attentive, caring, thorough, and knowledgeable about the menu, buildings, and amenities as well as nearby attractions. Those that served our meals at different times and those I watched serving other clients displayed such traits and knowledge. All the guests were relaxed and enjoying the meals with smiles and conversation. Maintenance staff kept the whole place clear of snow, shoveled and salted, all while being friendly and responding to any questions or concerns. The staff of the Digby Pines were engaged, motivated, and worked well between departments, all together creating an amazing team and providing a fantastic experience. To all the staff, those seen by the guests and those working behind the scenes supporting, well done to the whole team. You made our experience forever memorable. The atmosphere at the Digby Pines was special. The Digby Pines is a fine, Grand Hotel of Nova Scotia. The buildings are well maintained and have great aesthetics. I cannot imagine how much time the staff put in to decorate the Hotel for Christmas. It could easily be seen that a great deal of care and forethought went into the effort. The final effect was beautiful and relaxing. I saw a lot of guests photographing so much of the Hotel and the decorations. For those who put it together, a big pat on the back, you all certainly can take pride in the positive reaction of all the guests. My daughter was able to enjoy the Spa while she was there. She was raving to all her friends and family when she returned about how special the staff was, and how well they took care of her. She was especially pleased with the haircut, style and treatments she received. Of course, the food and the ambience of the restaurant were fantastic. There is so much I want to write about the dining experience; the food, the staff, the décor, really must be experienced first-hand to truly understand how satisfying all the meals were. Relaxing contentment on each occasion. Once again, this is achieved by exceptional staff with knowledge, experience and teamwork. Such teamwork reflects good leadership at all levels. I could go on far more about the many great experiences I and my daughter encountered at the Digby Pines; the staff, the food, the atmosphere was all so marvelous. Maybe the best way to write of my encounter is to say, I so want to, and will come back to, the Digby Pines, again and again.

The bed was a challenge, low because of the low sloping ceiling, difficult for someone next to the wall to get out of in the night when there are two people in it, and it was clear that there was just one place people sat as the mattress (or whatever it was) was permanently squished at the edge in just one place. Loved the cats but didn't really see them as they weren't allowed in many spaces we were. The breakfast room was the living room and it felt weird to go in to the room, shut the door to keep the cats out, and sit at the 2 top awaiting breakfast service. Hosts are vegan which isn't a big deal for us as we typically eat vegetarian, but what I disliked the most was being served a plate of food without any say on what went on it and how much. I don't really care to eat foods that are trying to be something they're not, so I'm not impressed with food science created sausages and eggs that are made with a long list of funky ingredients. I'd rather have a real whole-foods meal with items that are known, think breads/tortillas, beans, whole grains and cereals, fresh fruit and vegetables. I can think of a lot of dishes using these foods that would be vegan and way healthier and delicious than the fake stuff. Overall, it's a fun place to stay but I'm not sure I'd stay again. I like real food and the ability to enjoy the pets if around.
