Confusion in the posting of visitation and service which I think are one in the same. Visitation 4-6 Service 5-TBD was posted. Family was told 4-8 some family weren't able to come pay their respects and we were told at 6:45 the service had ended. Some of us were confused and that we were rushed out. When you are grieving confusion isn't something anyone wants to deal with.

Burying a loved one is never easy and I was not looking for the place where I could only get the most "bang for my buck". I was looking for a place that would take the same care and love of my mom that she took of me while I was growing up and I felt she deserved after her passing. I worked closely with Paige, the funeral director, who although she looks young - took the time and consideration to go over all the details with my brother and I multiple times and answer our countless questions. When planning a wake and funeral - it is a mad dash to put it mildly - you are grieving but there are all these moving parts that have to be put in place in a short period of time. We were luck to have Paige, and the entire staff of O'Brien Funeral Home with us during the entire process. They helped tailor the wake to truly honor her and make the day of the funeral as seamless as possible - snow and all.

No one greeted us at the door when we arrived and the staff member lurked in the background near the end of the wake. I went to visit my mother's grave for the first time on Mother's Day, I had difficulty finding the grave because it did not even have a temporary marker. When I mentioned to the funeral director how upsetting this was, he had replied that they didn't usually provide them, but sometimes did if it was requested. He showed no emotion, no caring and no empathy. I wish that I was able to give the funeral home less than one star. I suggest the funeral director go somewhere to learn empathy and caring.

There were ushers helping us park cars as it was a large gathering from in and out of state that was here to bid farewell to a friend and family. The staircase leading upstairs from the lot that I had parked was beautiful, though we all were dressed in black attire. Two different rooms for seating and the bigger room held the casket and visitors came to pay their respects. A decently sizes funeral home that some had to squeeze by others while there was still areas for groups to congregate. I imagine that a lot of thought and preparation was put into honoring this man and this funeral home did him justice. Cannot speak to the procession the day after to the cemetery as I couldn't attend but I imagine thar it was well organized and handle the business of the Elmwood West Hartford area.

As a result, many of our mother's children and family members were completely excluded from saying their final goodbyes. A funeral home is supposed to serve the needs of the deceased and their entire family with compassion, fairness, and dignity. Carmon Funeral Home failed on all counts. Their actions--or rather their lack of action--speak volumes about their priorities. To take sides, withhold communication, and deny family members a chance to honor their mother's life is not only unprofessional but absolutely disgraceful. Families deserve better during one of the most difficult times of their lives. Carmon Funeral Home failed to do the right thing.
