The work that Will did for us was re-gluing walnut dining chairs with needlepoint seats that are about 80 years old and belonged to my husband's grandmother. We took one chair first--one that was not only wobbly but had also broken. I dropped it off at a time that I knew would be busy for him--just before Thanksgiving, but we were not really in a hurry to get it back. In January I called (for the second time) to check on the chair. He said it was almost ready. By then, a second chair in our set had come apart. He said to bring it out and he would have both of them ready for pick-up at the same time. They were ready within two or three days. The work quality seemed to be very good. The remaining four chairs in the set were also in need of re-gluing. We brought them to him and he completed the job very quickly this time. This included repairing a break in one of the chairs that we had not noticed--probably a re-break from a repair job that we knew had been done before the chairs came into our possession. I only wish I'd read these reviews before I dropped off my small display cabinet to be refinished... or so I thought. We told the man who was there and his assistant that we wanted the piece refinished and as they checked it out he'd mention other things that needed to be addressed and we agreed that it would be good so he wrote them down.He then gave us what seemed like an exorbitant price of $400 with $200 down on the spot. The last time we'd had a piece refinished it had been pretty expensive but had also been about 8 years ago so we balked, but agreed. He said that he had a lot to do so it might be a while, to call in a couple of months. We did. another couple of weeks, he told us when we called... and then again... and then again... and then excuses. Six months after we'd left the piece there - it's the size of a coffee table - we picked it up. The work that had been done was sloppy... and I mean sloppy! And, worse yet, it hadn't been refinished at all! When I commented to that effect, he pulled out the now typed invoice on which was written all the things he'd said needed doing but not the thing we had specifically asked for: refinishing! He claimed that of course there was no refinishing... not for that price! It would have been much more. I was so tempted to just leave the piece behind but I'd spent years trying to find it so I paid and left as he huffed about my complaining. If you take something here you'll end up paying a far greater cost than just the outrageous dollar amount. read more

Just got a quote for a 48x 52 cushion for a reading nook I put in under my basement stairs. The man said labor alone would be around $800 not including fabrick.??!! Now I'm kinda curious how much labor could possibly go into making 1 -4'x4' cushion. $20hr for a 40hr work week is $800. Maybe it takes him all week to make a pillow?? Or maybe it only take about an HR and a half but actually charges the rate of an actual MD??!!
