First of all, Bob McCann, the owner/proprietor is legitimately the nicest, most charming, and enthusiastic person ever. He loves what he does, and he enjoys talking about and showing off his numerous projects. Check out the book in his shop that shows the kind of work that he's done. This man is living the dream - he's doing what he loves, with incredible attention to detail. He's not doing it for massive profits, but because he really, really loves his work. And though he's an amazing restorer, he is most enthusiastic about repurposing older pieces to fit your current lifestyle. Ask him about his pump organ projects - something that was basically broken down and unusable was repurposed into a desk with hidden cubbies and secret panels like something out of that National Treasure movie. Which led me to basically dream planning having one of this pump organs be redesigned into a goth themed vanity of my dreams. Never mind that I live in a studio. And I was SHOCKED at how low the starting price for a project like that was - seriously, he is undercharging for the kind of work he does. I am seriously considering getting rid of my couch and tv cabinet just to make room for his custom vanity with secret cubbies and hidden drawers and expandable table tops. But if you're not ready for that and are looking for someone to fix/restore/recane/refinish cherished family pieces or even fix up that flea market find, Mr. McCann is your guy. I got Bob's number from a Pier1 Imports patron when chatting about having some antique furniture pieces restored. I held onto his info and reached out to him to have him restore a 55 year old mid century one piece sofa sectional. It was my Dad's bachelor sofa. 10ft long. Over the years my folks had it reupholstered 3xs. When i inherited I had it done boldly in red Naugahyde. That was 21 years ago. Iron Gate Antiques just reupholstered in recycled leather and they added a lil height lift to it because she was a low rider. It's beautiful. Bob recently refinished a late 19th-century oak dresser as well as the matching harp and mirror. He also re-caned two small walnut side chairs. I am so pleased with the results! Some family heirlooms are priceless. That is true for the Lane Cedar Chest restored so beautifully at Iron Gate Antiques. My wife Fran's mother received it as a hope chest when she was married in the late 1940s. That hope chest was in Fran's home for every one of her growing up days. Her mother and father are no longer with us, but the hope chest is. In the intervening years, it was painted white. Twice. Movers accidently broke off one of the pulls. It was looking quite bedraggled. Bob McCann and his son restored it to its original beauty. We are so grateful to them for restoring this family treasure. read more

I highly recommend Iron Gate Antiques. We had work done on a footboard and a stand-alone sewing box, and both pieces look wonderful. Prices were extremely reasonable, and communication was excellent and thorough. We needed the footboard back by a certain date, and Bob was not only able to accommodate that, but he also finished the sewing box--meaning we had to make only one trip out to pick them up. Customer service is outstanding! Wow, I was so impressed with Bob and Cecil. Those two are so personable and knowledgeable. I instantly trusted them with our family antique. I dropped off a freestanding piece of rust and had returned a piece of art. For a nominal fee our restored coffee grinder was deliver to our door at the height of rush hour and Christmas shopping season. At first I couldn't speak. The working coffee grinder was colorful and true to the pictures from an on-line research picture. The logo was painted. The most impressive part was the attention to detail. Even the screws were painted. The screws looked like decoration instead of merely being functional. Bob communicated with me often, providing with comfort that this project would be finished by Christmas as promised. So fantastic, so amazing and at a reasonable price. read more
