Mecklenburg County Board of Elections - It's 2024 and the big candidates are Kamala Harris and Donald Trump. But vote your conscience - there are others!

Sure, they're legally required to have specific dates and times for voting. But I believe that they go above and beyond that with locations for early voting - 19 different sites throughout the county. There are two within four miles of my home! Today, I arrived at one of the facilities to cast my vote. A reasonable amount of parking, an organized system for queueing, clearly marked lines for campaigners to stay behind, and inside, a tidy and organized system. Plenty of poll workers to ensure a quick and easy time to get your ballot details and then to vote. My touchscreen worked fine, printing out a paper trail that I could see. None of that "I voted for this guy but it changed my vote to that guy" nonsense here. Easy and simple to perform my civic duty. I'm a fan. [Review 9962 overall, 1542 of 2018.]

But I have to say that inspite of the challenges of a very large city, it all went smoothly. I was proud when I voted for the first time. I am in Charlotte, NC now, and although not huge like Miami, is large enough! I have to say voting in Miami and voting in Charlotte was a breeze. The precinct staff was efficient, kind, and ready to assist voters. I have only missed a couple of voting days and I am 71 so I've been voting for 50 years! It's a way of having your voice heard. We arrived at 4 knowing it closed at 5 p.m. A friendly attendant greeted us at the gate and asked if we were new visitors which we were, and he informed us that the last tour was already progress and we could join in, or explore the grounds on our own. This is an experience everyone young and old would enjoy! The tour is a glimpse into Mr. Graham's life, his ministry, and his travels around the world. The gardens and grounds are beautiful, and there's a memorial garden on site. We're already planning to return to experience the full tour, which is said to be at least an hour and a half long and it's free. The staff was amazing and very knowledgeable.

I had already planned to make the 2 hour drive from Raleigh anyway, but now, I went because I needed to make this visit. The staff was incredibly friendly, as one would expect. After I finished my tour of the exhibits, two people prayed for me, including the chaplain of the library. The outside grounds are nicely kept and I like that the library/museum has the farmhouse feel to it. It feels very homey and cozy. Definitely spend some time in the bookstore, there is a lot of good merch for sale. Although $30 for a coffee mug was a little too over the top for me. Let us always remember the legacy of the Grahams and may we always be aware of God's divine and loving presence.

So I am unsure how this happened, but in all my years of living in Charlotte, I never realized…read morethere was a US Post Office in Park Rd Shopping Center. One of those: "hide in plain sight" type deals, but I really needed to mail a package that wouldn't fit in the package drop box so I saw they were open from 9am-1pm on Saturdays. I made it around 8:45am.... and these guys any seconds earlier than 9am... so much so that I was the first in a line of 4 people by the time the doors opened. Luckily I just had to drop off cause I purchased and printed my stamp the night before and just had to drop it at the desk. You could tell the 3 people behind me were already annoyed they were already in a line..... hopefully it wasn't a bad thing. It only took me a second to drop the package and walk out the door so hopefully I was the "perfect" customer for them that day. There's a large entrance area with PO Boxes and an automated kiosk in the lobby, unfortunately the package drop was just not the right size for me this time around. Since they had just opened, place was pretty clean and tidy.... I've seen other locations looking like a tornado when through there, but I'm sure this one is so tiny it's really easy for upkeep. Parking is next to the Harris Teeter so the parking lot is super busy here. Just don't get run over trying to find a place in line here ;)

I stopped by the United States Post Office on a weekend because I needed to ship a package…read more According to the USPS website, this location listed self-service kiosks available in the lobby, which in many cities (including where I lived in the Bay Area) are often accessible even when the main counter is closed. Unfortunately, when I arrived the lobby was locked and I wasn't able to access the kiosk at all. That was pretty disappointing since I specifically came here expecting the self-service option to be available. One challenge with USPS locations is that calling ahead isn't very helpful--the phone system usually routes you to a general 800 number rather than the local branch. The shopping center itself is convenient with plenty of parking, so getting there isn't difficult. Insider tip: If you're planning to ship something here on the weekend, double-check access hours for the lobby or have a backup shipping plan just in case the self-service kiosks aren't available. As someone still navigating Charlotte after moving from the Bay Area, I'm learning that availability can vary by location, so planning ahead helps.
