You see our puppy had never been sick ever, normal vaccines and checkups. The tests clearly showed high ketones in his urine, elevated glucose, and elevated liver enzymes. These are textbook warning signs of diabetes and potential diabetic instability. Instead of treating or urgently addressing diabetes, Dr. Blakely shifted focus to Cushing's disease.This lack of urgency and misdirection cost precious time. Diabetes in dogs can progress to Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA) in as little as a month, and that is exactly what happened to Reese. On Friday 8/14 he had a low dose Dex suppression test, when we picked him up, we were told he vomited and had diarrhea, during the test. My dog had never had diarrhea before then he mentioned he would like to do another test the following Tuesday a all-day blood glucose test, at this time he now mentions DKA most likely because we brought another urine for him to check and he found ketones again and glucose, never did he at any time even try insulin which would have saved his life, he kept pushing for more tests, while my little baby was slowly dying!!!! By the time he crashed, he was in full DKA, severe pancreatitis, and aspiration pneumonia -- conditions that are often fatal even with ICU care.I understand that medicine is complex, but as a pet parent I trusted my vet to recognize the seriousness of ketones and elevated glucose. Instead, I was left believing Cushing's was the priority, while diabetes was not treated with the urgency it required. Reese passed away at 4:23 AM Sunday 8/16 after a brutal fight. I will always feel that if diabetes had been addressed immediately in July, his outcome might have been different. Pet owners if your dog has ketones, elevated glucose, or vomiting/lethargy after testing -- push for urgent diabetes care. Don't let it be brushed aside.

They pick up minutes later and AGAIN, put you on hold without waiting to hear a peep. This is not how I want to be treated and SADLY looking for a new vet today. When I try to book an appointment online it restricts me from booking, but my friends are able to when they create accounts. I don't know what happened to deserve this kind of treatment and if something did happen a conversation would have sufficed. I was driving down larkfield road in Northport during a lunch break, looked to my left and there it was, a big sign stating PET ZONE: DOG AND CAT GROOMING. On another occasion, I stopped in to get the lay of the land. In the back was owner and groomer, Alex, at work with a white poodle, grooming away. I made an appointment and brought my cat back the following week. His fees aren't exorbitant, but his patience is. During the grooming, we chatted. Alex said he's been at this location since 2004!!!! My cat, Hannah, fidgety during most of it, but basically tolerant, looked beautiful once done. What I love about Alex is that he allows you to stay with your animal during the groom. I was so appreciative of this. I've been to one other groomer ($200!. Never again) who didn't allow me to stay with Hannah. I didn't like that. Another groomer wanted to sedate her. What!!! NOPE!! Next. Another groomer wanted her uptodate on all the vaccinations. While that maybe important in some instances, who cares about that? Just groom my cat. My vet doesn't groom. He only brushes. I NEED HER GROOMED!!! Alex groomed her and clipped her nails. Fifty-five dollars plus tip. One hour later, we were out the door. Now this Pet Zone location isn't pretty. Unfortunately, the haircut was poorly done. Our dog's hair was uneven and had no shape. Maybe the groomer rushed through the process. We brought him back to fix what was wrong, but we will have to wait for his hair to grow in. Based on our experience, you'd be better off going elsewhere.
