Love, love, love the Raclette Factory…read more Really wanted to have another Raclette experience while in Switzerland. The first was in Lucerne and we loved it! Walked to the Raclette Factory from our hotel. Sat at a community table with a family from Argentina. They were so sweet. Their eleven year old was so animated and his parents were the sweetest. Fun to talk to them about travel, our mutual love of rollercoasters and science and the recent World Cup. The son loves Yasmine Lamal. The dad is Team Messi. Our waiter, Flavio, made the evening our best choice. We really wanted to try a lot of different cheese flavors and combinations, so we had the Raclette All You Can Eat. Choose a couple of cheeses. Plain. Smoke. Garlic. Chili. White Wine. Red Wine. Blue cheese. Goat. Sheep. Truffle. Add toppings. It comes with pickles and pearl onions. Pickles and melted Raclette cheese. Unbelievably delicious. Add more toppings. Small potatoes, bread or mashed potatoes. So good! Started with the truffle and the red wine with the works, potatoes, mashed potatoes and cubes of bread. The truffle was my favorite of the cheeses and both the mashed potatoes and small potatoes were delicious. I think at the end we tried all of the cheeses but the original. We were stuffed!! But all the hotels in Zurich are really expensive, and the Sonne is charming AND... If you walk up the main street, and follow the stream called the Tobler, you come to a ravine trail that is wonderfully Swiss. The waterfalls are sculpted, there are arched bridges over the stream, and this time of year there are teams of civic workers in the forest valley blowing away the leaves! (Even other Zurich residents think this is a bit much.) Up and down is about 15 km with 220 m vertical, and just a great way of working off your Zurcher g'schnetzlets mit Rosti!

The local white wine had just the right acidity to cut through all the richness. Dessert was merengue atop ice cream--a touch too sweet for my tooth, but nice. Watching the transformation of the cheese from perfectly aged wheel to plated drips of delight was the real highlight. My diet died for a good cause tonight!
