This past winter was the wettest and windiest for the Sacramento area. Needless to say I don't think my fence would have lasted another winter. My fences were in bad shape! I literally broke them in half with my bare hands (see photo). They make for great firewood as they were crispy dry, split and some with big peeping holes. Time to replace and luckily for this side of my property, my neighbor agrees to go halvsies with me. David provided me the quote. I appreciate that he simply is a genuinely nice guy (this goes a long way in terms of trust, in case you have a customer service issue later) and of course he didn't try to upsell me anything. He responded timely as I emailed him with questions and updates. Joseph, the owner, will confirm details with you after you decide to go with them. I communicated with Joseph mostly through text and a few times by phone. Alec and Paul, young but experienced, hard working guys, just finished replacing nearly 85' of fencing and installed two double door gates. They took away the old fencing and installed everything in less than 2.5 days for just over $5,200, materials and labor. They arrive around 8am and leave between 5-6pm. I opted for 6', redwood, dog eared, 2'x12" treated wood kicker, board on board (highly recommended for privacy as they place a third board over a widen gap), and hidden metal posts set in concrete (highly recommend you do this to make thing easier and cheaper in the future to replace a fence board or section). They didn't have any 5' in stock so they had to cut a foot off the 6' boards because with the kicker boards my fence would have been 7' high. They also replaced my old rickety gate. I opted for the metal bracket, which I also highly recommend. Wood supports don't last! They use galvanized nails that have spirals at the end that anchor itself into the wood. I forget the actual name of it, but you'll want to make sure you get those so that you don't get nails that just pop out like mine did over time. As for pricing they were mid level to high compared with 3 other bids I got, but not the most expensive. I decided to go with them because they specialize in fencing unlike your landscaper or handyman who will do fencing on the side and will not necessarily know the little trade secrets that you learn because its your full time job; things that could make a big difference down the road! First of all decide what type of wood you want. Redwood, cedar and teak are recommended for outdoor fences. Kicker boards (good if you have a dog or your neighbor does who likes to chew wood or dig under the fence and also keeps your fence bottom off the ground to make it last longer and not rot), metal or wood posts, set in concrete or dirt, demo and haul away of your old fence. All of these will be separate pricing. I recommend that you buy a sealer sprayer with a fan tip to protect your investment immediately after. Home Depot sells one online (Wood Rx Ultra Redwood Transparent Stain/Sealer) to ship to your home only for $90 for two gallons. I was so happy wth their work I hired them again to build custom 24' long planters for me a few days later. Joseph, the owner himself, built them for me and David assisted. Talk about talent. Check out the photos yourself! Choose untreated wood if you plan to use it for a vegetable garden. Cost, $1000+. A nearly all day job. It's gorgeous. They were willing to work with my schedule and met me after work and on weekends when needed. After having them pour a beautiful slab for a new hot tub, moving a ton of dirt for me, and doing some hardscape around a pool, they were able to pour an amazing driveway with textured and colored details that make it a standout in my neighborhood. This companys terms requested 80% ($4K out of a $5K) total job just for framing, leaving only $1000 to be paid at finish. Paying $4K out of $5K before any concrete is delivered or finished leaves buyer with zero leverage for job satifactory. When i explained this to the owner he accused me of disrespecting him and his business. I meant no disrespect but also explained that if he was not willing to follow CSLB and revise his terms, I was going to pass on his quote and go with another bidder that i had previous experience with. All I expect is licensed, honest and law abiding contractors who do whats legal and ethical!
