I have lived in Litchfield, CT since 1999. I was new in town, a transplanted New Yorker. I had…read morebought a circa 1988 house, and tragically, the really lovely eggplant-colored (Brazilian purple heartwood) floors were stained black! I asked around for a great floor refinishing company and for installation of new floors (where there had been wall-to-wall carpeting). Bill Deering's name came up repeatedly. Having owned & managed income producing real estate in NYC, I knew what to look for & what I wanted to hear. The most important thing is: Does the company leave whorl marks on the floors, especially around the perimeter of a room? With Deering's reputation, I never even bothered to get competitive bids, unheard of for this former Doubting-Thomas New Yorker. My motto was-- Never trust, always doubt! But in this case, hiring Deering Floors was one of theee best things I did. Deering did superb work. I had very precious floors-- made of wood that is usually used only as a decorative inlay. I could tell Deering had major integrity. He really cared how a job was executed & how the floors lived & breathed after he had worked on them. While I was still sort of "bi-coastal"- still shuttling back and forth between NYC & Litchfield- I had left my upstairs windows open for ventilation (albeit with window screens) & I came home one night from NYC to a veritable swimming pool upstairs where the rain had been blown in by the wind. I phoned Deering in a panic as I was fearful of cupping. Bill's reaction was an audible wincing! It was great that he cared. Turned out he'd done such a superb job that nothing went wrong. The other little anecdote I have to add is that when I needed to have floors installed where there had been none, he offered to let me come to his house and see his own floors which had the floors I was considering. To me, this was service above and beyond! A great guy who does truly, truly superb work!

How could one project go so well and the second project end in disappointment?…read moreThe first hardwood floor installation in June 2025 was professional, no dust and job clean up was thorough, it was flawless. It went so well I decided to do another room. Two different workers came this time, July 2025 & asked where my 220 plug was. The worker plugged his wires into my dryer machine plug. I questioned why there was no plug on his machine only wires coming out & he said "it's ok" when they began to sand my new smoke detectors were blaring & I come upstairs to one worker standing in my living room, far from the room they were working on with a mask on in a cloud of dust saying "sorry, something wrong with the machine" and my smoke detectors were put into a bathroom. As a professional they should have prevented the dust from circulating throughout my house and if the equipment was faulty it should not have been used. As soon as the dust was circulating throughout the house the equipment should've been turned off until a working replacement was available. Apparently the sander had no vacuum bag attached, in the high humidity the dust settled & adhered to everything inside the house. The fact that the smoke detectors were blaring was additional proof that the workers created a hazardous environment in my house and judging by the layer of dust on my fan blades I used to clear the air my new smoke detectors are probably compromised. Also the baseboard heater was left dangling from the wall & I had to fix the holes from them ripping it off the wall to reattach properly myself. Also worth noting, I have found 2 live cockroaches so far in the rooms that were done. I'm not sure if they were brought in with their equipment or what, but I have never seen previously in my home. I felt my concerns expressed to Brian were not taken seriously and the only apology I received for the second job nightmare was from 2 of his employees and none from the owner of the business. If this happened on the first job, they would never have been hired for the second Job. I have other projects I'm looking forward to do, but will look elsewhere. I would give the first job 4/5 stars, but zero for the second.

I happened to be driving in Plainville when I spotted there was store on East Street. I went into there showroom, and was already right off the bat impressed. I explained I wasn't looking into replacing the floor, that I had oak, with no pet stains, and wanted them to refinish it. The owner, Brian Harding, came in within just a few days, and gave me a great estimate! He was very professional, honest, and right on point about a few nicks that were already on my floors. It was done in a fashionable time. His workers that came in were very polite as well. I would highly recommend Connecticut Flooring for any of your upcoming flooring jobs. I am defiantly hiring him again for my tile work that needs to be done in both my bathrooms, as well the next floor I want done for refinishing.

How much damage and to what? The stairs were especially hard hit. Dark stain on our white baseboards and stair risers. Chips that need to be filled in and repainted. Repairs that are going to take days. Could the damage have be prevented? You bet it could have. In talking to Rob just now it was as if I was talking to a completely different person than the Rob that came out and "sold" the job. Was the work to the floors wonderful? Yes. Could the damage to the woodwork have been prevented? Yes. Did Rob listen to my suggestions about how to lessen or prevent the damage in the future? No. Did Rob offer to help repair the damage? No. Am I interested in referring Rob and Company? sadly, I can't - in light of Rob's highly argumentative behavior and unwillingness to see things from his customer's (me) perspective, I cannot give a thumbs up. Sorry, Rob, You can and must do better.
