I've been coming here for awhile since my daughter goes to school a few blocks from here. Many of the reviews on here address poor attitudes and customer service, however, that has not been my experience. Anytime I've needed any supplies, the women here were more than willing to assist kindly. The store is small but very organized. There are also male employees that have also been very helpful. I've mainly only purchased Girl's hair accessories and inexpensive products. I can't testify about wigs or fake hair. Overall, No complaints here. read more

I love supporting black owned businesses when this establishment first opened a few years back i vowed never to shop anywhere else but this beauty supply store...i went into Gabbys Beauty Supply Store one day this week to pick up a few items...I noticed there was a beauty salon downstairs which I never knew was there so i figured I'd go down there and see what services they offer and i will begin to have services done there. I went downstairs and I asked a dark skin female employee if she provides a certain service specifically for wigs. She responded very nasty saying "THAT IS NOT MY JOB" i asked her another wig related question and she responded again "THAT IS NOT MY JOB" i calmly left and got the manager and even he was confused as to why his employee was speaking to customers this way. Nonetheless it happened and it is unfortunate that as a customer you are handled that way....ESPECIALLY when i go out of my way to support this business. In addition to the poor customer service at Gabbys Beauty Supply Store, the employees follow you around the store as if you are trying to steal something. It makes clients uncomfortable when employees follow them so closely around the store. I will NO LONGER be shopping at Gabbys Beauty Supply Store and i will take my business back to Lucky's beauty supply store where the employees are helpful and go above and beyond to help clients. I tried giving this place a chance, and have been here many times. I like the fact that this place is convenient and has pretty much everything you need. My problem is with the people who work there. Extremely rude. Went there this morning and got shampoo and conditioner. The total purchase was $4.32 but the woman behind the counter says "$6.00" I asked why was it $6 and her very rude response was "$6" I asked if there was a minimum and that's when she rudely explained to me the credit card minimum. If it were not for the fact that I had already passed two beauty supply stores and did not feel like going back I would have walked out. Will never purchase from them again. I'll purchase from the Koreans down the block. At least I know why I'm getting attitude from them!!! read more

I gave Gabby's a chance as I wanted to support a Black owned business, however, my experiences there have never been great. I hate to be a "Karen," but I don't think store staff should be able to be rude to their paying customers for no reason and get away with it. The selection of products is pretty good and most of the staff that work the floor are very nice and helpful, but I've had several negative experiences with some of them, especially at the cash register. Not that everyone has to be sunshine and rainbows, but just being at least somewhat nice or friendly towards your costumers doesn't seem that difficult to me. I understand that things happen in people's lives, and you never know everyone's story, but whatever is going on in your life no matter how big or small is no excuse to be flat out rude to a customer. I understand being rude to someone who was disrespectful towards you, but that's unnecessary and unacceptable when a costumer has done absolutely nothing to you. I made a simple and honest mistake when using the card machine, as the buttons on the machine are confusing (none of the buttons have the correct use if that makes sense), and the cashier was quick to catch an attitude with me. She let me make the same mistake several times, and rather than simply correcting me the first time she let me continue to make the mistake before deciding to raise her voice at me after the third time. Expect people to make a mistake if your card machine uses any other buttons to confirm or decline a payment besides the green and the red! I was very apologetic, and I didn't even receive a response, let alone an apology. Despite her being mean, I still said thank you and wished her a nice day since I always do that even after receiving bad service. No response to that either. I love to support Black businesses, but I'd rather take my business elsewhere (the new Feel beauty is wayyyyyy nicer anyway, both the actual place and the staff) since I'm sick of giving Gabby's more chances when it's shown me several signs that I should stop going. read more

Horrible Experience. So my mom and I decided to get a lace frontal installed by the beautician that owns Gabby's and she did a horrible job. Prior to getting my hair done I loved going into Gabby to buy hair & to shop in there , which made me want to get my hair done there because I felt it would come out nice . The installation price was $200 which was okay because my mother and I was installing a lace frontal . I made an appointment and went there and the beautician was 30minutes late . I should've walked out then . She claimed how her work was impeccable & she worked fast . We got there at 9:30 am and didn't leave until 4 pm because she was doing our hair and wanted to go two other women hair at the same time . She had a girl braid my mother hair & myself . Then she sewed it in and put on the frontal . Fast forward to the end she told me to come back in two days because she didn't lay my closure all the way down ( mind you I had graduation in a couple of days and didn't have time for that) , but I didn't want to be rude so I said okay , I looked at the recepit and she charged my mother & I $200 each . We paid . Just to realize that One she didnt even sew th tracks on correctly and that my frontal wasn't fully installed correctly and neither was my mother . I went back two days later and all she did was added glue on top of glue . This cause me to take the hair out 2 weeks later & my hair to come out around my edges . I feel she shouldn't even charged that much for a half job . I will NEVER shop or allow her to do my hair again ever. read more
