Freedom Art & Music can be reached by walking through a courtyard off Race Street in Frenchtown…read more The courtyard has metal sculptures and sometimes a bubble machine in it... and Freedom Art & Music is the gallery in the back left corner. The gallery's mission statement says that its goal is "to provide gallery space for local artists, musicians, carpenters and writers to showcase their work." Inside you will find paintings, jewelry, some furniture, handcrafted musical instruments, and "repurposed" industrial items made into lamps and large decorations, some of them labelled (and looking like) "steampunk" lamps. Their website indicates that they recently hosted an evening painting class with one of the painters they represent. Once you have explored all the rooms, you can go through an interior door into Artful Collector & Studio, with which they share the building.

The vibrant work of Rasika Reddy caught my eye in the window so we went inside. The space was small and intimate and the gallery owner (and assistant) were both gracious and welcoming... Gallery 51 says they showcase a new artist every few months. If you are ever in Montclair and have the time, it is worth passing by to have a look. There is also a lovely flower shop and a very nice beading & craft store a few doors down... a sweet trifecta of aesthetic and creative goodness on a sunny Sunday afternoon.

So nice to see such talented young performers. The artwork in this museum is such a treasure as well. I felt really blessed that we got there early to really enjoy the artwork. Mr. Stabin was quite personable and took the time to share his thoughts and inspirations about some of the pieces. At the end of the event, my family enjoyed some delicious cuisine at their cafe. This was my first time to Jim Thorpe, it certainly won't be my last. What a great little town and a great little museum and cafe.
