Smaller airport, easy to navigate. Very clean. A few food options and arriving two hours early is more than enough time to catch your flight. Car rentals are right across from the luggage turnstile making for an easy exit. read more

I had to fly out to Dallas for 2 days and did not feel like driving down to Orlando. Being from Gainesville, I have never flown out of the GNV - so this was definitely a first. Since it was the week before the holidays the long term parking lot was pretty packed surprisingly. Long term parking is pretty cheap at $10/day compared to MIA/FLL where it's $25/day. This is a smaller airport which I realized makes delays more common. My flight to Dallas was delayed about an hour or so and it was a packed flight. Once you go through TSA, which is sooooooo easy - you are able to sit in a cozy waiting area. I wish that the airport had more food options or a bigger range. I do appreciate the new upgrades to the airport and the expansion like a parking garage. I will say if you find more comfort in a small airport and need a quick direct flight, check out GNV. read more

Overall small airport and it is easy to navigate. I'm taking a point off since my boarding pass clearly said TSA Precheck and the agents wouldn't let me pass with that and it was a hassle so I just did security regularly. Otherwise there's two spots to get food and drinks and it's updated and clean read more

Big fan of this airport. Parking is easy and not expensive for an airport. TSA is always super quick. It's really clean and there's it's of places to charge your device. And I haven't had a ton of delays. I wish there were more food options, but if you go all the way to the last gate you can grab some coffee which is nice! read more

Nice small uncrowded regional airport. Even if you are at gates 4 or 5 in the lower older section where the bottle fill station isn't working. Sit in the newer taller area with more windows, TVs, and a working bottle fill station. Waiting for an uber here can be long (more than 15 min in assume cases) read more

Not bad for airport food. The prices are high but what other choice do you have when you're craving a sausage sandwich and your plane takes off in 20 minutes. Staff is friendly and with three locations in the airport, waits are shorter now. read more

It's an airport, so there's only so many raves. However, it's small and has never been crowded in all the times we've been here. Luggage comes out quickly, security lines move quickly and the staff is friendly. Cute rocking chairs for relaxing before takeoff. Very easy to wait in the "cell phone lot" to be picked up (unlike the chaos of LAX). We were disappointed that the liquor-based bar was closed while we were there (~3:45/4:00 on a Tuesday), but there was a little spot to buy beer/wine/etc. If you have family in Gainesville, as I do, it's a very convenient airport to use. read more

After years of being in Gainesville and traveling from home place to place, I finally flew out of Gainesville! Deciding that the price was worth the non-existent commute that I was bypassing, I finally made my first true visit to GNV airport! With about a 2ft space in between departures and arrivals, let's just say that this is not going to be anywhere near the biggest airport that you've experienced. But the best thing about that? Lines are short, crowds are non-existent and that airport rush that somehow slips its way into every group? Not happening here! I checked in online so I didn't have to get in the line but luckily, there were only three others in line! TSA was a breezeeeee and I was at my gate in like 5 min of arriving. Now, there are only like 5 gates but whatever LOL. There's a convenient store of sorts plus the Tailwind Concessions which was a great stopover as I waited for my plane. Tons of drinks are available plus a simple, yet effective menu with various options. I enjoyed some beers and a yummy Buffalo Chicken Wrap while waiting for my plane and it was so much better than I expected! So flights aren't always cheap out of there and there are only throw airlines that actually are housed here but there are options! So next time you're considering flying the friendly skies, GNV may be an option! read more

I like smaller airports, for some reason. Easy to access, lots of parking, no maze of gates and terminals to navigate through and agents that tend to be much more pleasant than the norm. Flying in to this airport left us a little frustrated, since we landed shortly before a thunderstorm hit, which required us to stay on the tarmac due to the ground crew's inability to get us to the terminal (there was pretty intense lightning and driving rain). Although we all sat on the plane for nearly an hour, no one was balking about it . . . until another carrier's plane landed and went straight to the gate while we still had not moved! That is not cool, and many on my flight were pretty perturbed about it. Flying out of this airport was a bit easier (other than the fact that Delta screwed up and didn't have a pilot for our incoming flight). Access to this airport is quite easy and drop off was a snap. TSA agents were a bit slow (especially for another flyer who was disabled and needed assistance). There are minimal crowds here, though, so the chance of you missing your flight due to long TSA lines is nearly non-existent. With only 5 gates in the entire airport, it's easy for you to locate where to go. Nicely decorated with several shops to purchase food or various sundries. A dog relief area accessible to the outside through a door (complete with faux fire hydrant) is available, too, which I thought was a great idea. Gate agents were very nice despite the Delta debacle, and the two working the counter at my outgoing flight were trying very hard to accommodate everyone who was obviously now going to miss connections in Atlanta. With a family member that now lives in this general vicinity, I'm sure I'll be back. Flying into Gainesville was much better than a potential 3-hour drive to fly into Orlando, Tampa, Jacksonville or Tallahassee. read more

Wow! Have you been to Gainesville Regional Airport lately?!?! I mean I have always loved the fact that we have an airport for a small city in the middle of nowhere so we have the option of flying right out of here to get to places. Last time we were here in December, they were going through some construction and remodeling and things were moved around. But, voila, today we are seeing the results of all the commotion was for the better! Some nice indoor plants, soothing music, water fountain, breakfast and coffee place in and out of the security check point, wide, roomy, and clean and well maintained bathrooms. There seems to be a giant refrigerator filled with a giant selection of beer including some Gainesville brewery. Things move along very seemlessly and stress-free here with smiley faces and good service not those jaded TSA agents processing us through like cattle in a lot of airports. There is even some rocking chairs to calm your nerves before the flight near the water fountain where the sun is shining down through the glass roof if that is your thing. I can say for the first time, it is so nice to hang out at the airport waiting for my flight! Check it out, double Gs (Gainesville Gators)!!!! read more

Clean, bright, and new expansion (post Covid) is incredible. Watching this airport grow in use in the last 30 years has been great. Yes, you can get more direct flights in Jax and Orlando. BUT... why? I hate having to drive 90-120 minutes after a flight... and by the time I add up gas/parking, the flights are almost the same price. Instead, I fly from Gainesville... flights are generally on-time, and it's just fast, convenient, and easy. read more

The last few times I have flown into GNV or had to bring family to the airport there have been delays or issues that have resulted in major changes needing to be made to travel schedules. It's always hard to predict, no matter which airport you're flying from or into, but I feel that smaller, regional airports like GNV are more prone to this happening. On the upside, their long-term parking lot is not far from the terminal and the price per day is usually cheaper than most major city airports. read more

This is a quaint little airport with only 2 gates. The positives are that security will take almost no time, there was plenty of seating, and baggage claim was very close to the gate and with only 2 belts, it's easy to figure out which one is which. There is a nice long uncrowded pick up area. Not a lot of food selections or things to look at. If you miss your flight, there probably isn't a lot of others to bump to. My flight to and from Charlotte was relatively uncrowded, so a good bet for distancing compared to other flights. If you're flying here, it's because you want to be in Gainesville and it was easier to get to than going to Jacksonville. It's tiny but easy to navigate and very close to town. read more

This airport is a sad ass building. Looks like a corporate office from the outside. Of course there are only a few flights coming in and out of here. And don't expect an airport lounge because there aren't any here. I'm not even sure what dining choices are available. I flew in and out of here once, and when I flew out that day I don't think my TSA pre-check status even mattered at this airport. Again, sad ass building, but that may be because it's in a sad ass town. read more

So, I'm noticing my airport trend. I couldn't care less about the bells and whistles. Yes, some airports have more fun-- but the mini-me aspect of GNV is firing on all fronts! In my airport musts, I want ease of travel, Starbucks, clean facilities, and WiFi. Although GNV doesn't have Starbucks, three outta' four ain't bad as I've always managed to either pick up my Starbucks in route or after deplaning as needed. I digress. TSA is easy peasy and the agents are kind. There are a few food and beverage options. The usual car rental service desks are in the house, and functioning normally with the decent fleet. It's all GOOD at GNV. Seriously, you can't hate on an efficient airport with 3 gates. You basically have the whole place to yourself! read more

I'm a fan of small airports that can get me to the cities I need to go for work quickly and easily. GNV is one of those. There are three gates and a single lane TSA checkpoint. Both pre-security and post, you'll find some refreshments, including alcohol, but there's only one option for each. The good news is you shouldn't get here too early, because you'll get through security really quickly (at least in my experience). They have all the standard rental car companies setup outside the one baggage belt. There's plenty of seating and some outlets to plug in your electronics while you wait, as well as complimentary wifi. Overall, I can't complain! It's a sleepy little airport but gets the job done, so I can get MY job done. read more

If you have a family member that's autistic please skip this airport. My brother should have been in Seattle by today and instead he was trespassed by GPD, after I told them on the phone that he was autistic and having a panic attack. American Airlines also at GNV decided to conveniently cancel my trip that I paid for my brother. American Airlines customer service made it right. GNV TSA American Airlines also charged him for a bag which customer service on American Airlines told me he was not supposed to be charge for a bag. GNV, American Airlines also canceled conveniently his trip upon talking to customer service. They could not verify if it was GNVTSA or American Airlines agent. Regardless, that protocol was uncalled for unprofessional and not authorized by me. Needless to say, if you have any kind of disability, please avoid Gainesville regional airport. I will no longer be using this airport in the future will not recommend it to future family members or friends. Gainesville police department was highly unprofessional by telling my brother to get off of the phone while they were trying to assess the situation. You shouldn't deny someone there phone while trying to assess the situation especially someone with a disability. There is no illegal action by having his phone there. I have yet to receive a call back from Gainesville Police Department. I have yet to receive a call by Gainesville regional airport TSA security.. American Airlines customer service made everything right and will be refunding anything paid out of pocket moving forward after that situation. Thank you American Airlines customer service for making this right. American Airlines at GNV highly disappointed, as well as TSA. I have yet to get a call from Gainesville regional Airport concerning the situation as well. Please re-train all your staff members on the equity and diversification of your customers. Home of the friendliest TSA agents and airport staff! Literally, everyone I interacted with at this tiny airport had a huge genuine smile and asked how my day was going. Tiny airport with extremely limited options to dine but better than none at all. And the little spot by American and Delta gates that offered food, beer, wine, and convenience items was more than sufficient to grab a bite, have a drink, buy a magnet, plug in my laptop and take a business meeting on the fly. Good airport you can get to half an hour before boarding and still make it to your flight comfortably! read more

I love small, easy to navigate airports. Gainesville is definitely that. I lived in Boise, Idaho for a time and thought our airport was dinky. I was wrong. The Gainesville airport is teeny-tiny and the best part? Completely chill. Flew in for work and was able to immediately and easily find the car rental counters. Once I got my keys, I walked right out to a sleepy little parking lot where I easily found my car. It's definitely on the outskirts of town, about 20-25 minutes from downtown Gainesville, but the drive is easy-breezy (not to mention green and lovely). If you ever have the need to go to Gainesville and you think--maybe, I should fly into a bigger airport nearby (Jacksonville?). Don't fret. Fly into Gainesville. It's like a breath of fresh air. read more

A cozy small airport that's a convenient drive to the university area. Car rental offices and car rental lot is as close as it gets to baggage claim. Not much amenities, but was pleasantly surprised at how efficient it was to get off the plane and drive off from the airport. read more

Recently I have flown out and recently the times I have flown in and out have been much much better. I am now starting to like this airport a lot more. I have been to my fair share of small airports and when I think about it this airport does a pretty good job. This is a small airport with a bigger airport charm. Best part about this airport is you can get to the airport 45 minutes before any flight and even if your checking your bag you will be fine. I travel internationally a lot for work and they say you should get to the airport 3 hours before if your flying internationally. Well not at GNV. Since you have to connect through ATL you can show up to GNV again 45 minutes before the flight and be just fine. I for sure recommend that you do not come here hungry thinking you will eat at the airport. Either bring food in yourself or eat when you get to ATL, CLT, or MIA. Overall a great little airport here in Gainesville! read more

Process is simple And smooth, if back in the area I will use this air port for traveling it's good for a quick and worry free way to travel. read more

I didn't spend much time in GNV and I didn't even fly in or out of this airport either. I was here to pick up my family that was returning a car to Avis that was driving from Miami. This is a small airport but probably the biggest airport between JAX, TPA and MCO. Of course Gainesville being the home to the University of Florida it's understandable they'd have their own airport even though the city itself isn't that large. There's only just ground level parking (no structure) and the parking is really spread out and seemingly on a Tuesday in April, seemed pretty full. The terminal itself seemed pretty quiet overall. The terminal is also just on a single level. The terminal roof looks like they're solar cells. The car rental kiosks are all lined up in one section inside the terminal. The car rental return section is actually quite small considering all the rental cars are in one area just past the loading/unloading area. For the short term parking that I had which was for almost an hour when leaving and paying at the automated kiosk (not in terminal but rather at the exit) it was only 1 dollar. It was the most affordable airport parking I have ever paid. read more

Employee in the GNV airport Tailwinds Cafe and at the one at the American Airlines gate are morons who are so ignorant and unaware of their work environment that they had no idea who to contact to restart the WiFi router. Or they are just too lazy to look it up. They don't know who to contact for airport facilities and they work here? Attached is a photo of the lazy slob working at Tailwinds. Another concern is the parking situation. If they would like to encourage use of this poorly located airport, why do they charge such exorbitant fees to park? It's not like there is a shortage of vacant land out here in the middle of nowhere. This airport is much like the one on the Ikd TV show Green Acres. read more

This is a great airport. We use it frequently because we have family nearby that we visit, and from a convenience factor, it's easier than making them drive all the way to Tampa. This airport is very small, but it IS a regional airport. The TSA agents here are the friendliest ones you will find anywhere. The atmosphere of this airport is very relaxed and has that "southern charm". Checking bags is easy and fast. Getting through TSA is easy and fast. Once you are in the actual airport, there are only 4 gates. The only airlines that service this airport are Delta and American. The wording areas aren't crazy busy either. One thing to mention is that once everyone is on board that should be, the flight will leave, so it is not uncommon to be 15 minutes ahead of schedule on your departure. There is a small eatery in the airport called (I think) "The Tail Wind", where you can grab something quick before a flight or upon your arrival. There are also only 2 belts in the baggage claim, but that is never overly packed either. All in all this is a great airport. read more

I LOVE this airport! I have flown in and out of here over 30 times and am always impressed. It is so easy to get in and out, and I have yet to come across an unpleasant airline rep or TSA agent. It is very small, with just three gates, but it has everything you need. There is a restaurant, bar, and small shop, as well as plenty of seating and free WiFi. read more

I've been having a horrible time flying of late, largely due to understaffing and increasingly severe weather causing delays and making me miss connecting flight. This has been taxing both mentally and financially as costs go up and service reliability goes down all while the airlines themselves refuse to compensate and increasingly offload the expense and risk to their customers. With all of that said, the airport staff of GNV have been some of the most patient and helpful in facilitating my travel at every turn and delay. They continually go out of their way to help the passengers and keep us informed. Doing their best to compensate for the state of transportation in this country. These people deserve more support from their airlines in terms of both manpower and compensation. read more

Love the locations. Security is always a pleasure--very friendly. Don't plan on catching a meal here. The food is decent but two out of 4 times I've eaten at Tailwinds cafe I've had to cancel my ordered because it took an hour!!! You'll notice they tell you to expect 15-20 min wait and really try to discourage you ordering at all. It feels like they are put out when you agree to wait. read more

I've been through Gainesville airport about a dozen times over the years, and find it a nice sleepy, regional place which I enjoy coming through. Sleepy, but in a good way. The concession stand is somewhat basic, where the use a microwave to heat things you've ordered. LOL. But everyone is friendly and helpful and act as if they're glad to see you. Sorry, I give stars for that kind of stuff. Sure beats the folk who hate their job and find you a nuisance. Another plus here are the very competent TSA screeners who get you through the security check quickly. Well, as quickly as they can, without making me worry too much about my fellow passengers. Three airlines, two gates, one snack counter, four racks of T-shirts and other UF related sundries, one security gate (that still moves remarkably slowly, at fixed times, and with unnecessary gruffness), and remarkably trickling wifi - even with only 20 people in the house. Prepare to gate check your roller board, and face an odd pickup just off the tarmac. Parking is $12 per day, and if you're lucky, there's a single cab to grab. It's not the size of the airport, it's what's being done with it that has it feeling so blah. But, hell, you don't go to Gainesville to chill at the regional, nawmean? read more

Teeny tiny airport that smells like an old lady's basement, but they are pretty damn efficient. My flight was scheduled to land at 12:15 p.m.. Not only was I on the ground by that time, but my bags were in my hand and I was ready to go at 12:15 on the dot. That's what I call efficiency. They did have me a little worried that I'd miss my return flight though. It was a 7 a.m. flight and I was in line before 6:15. There was only one person working the counter and about 7 people in line. Back home, all of those people would have been cleared in less than 10 minutes. But of course, being in the South, the guy had to stop and chit chat and do the whole "How you doin? How ya mama doin?" thing. It was really frustrating and took way longer than it should have, given that I had already checked in online. Gainesville Has Made A Real Leap In Big-City Panache…read more It is one man's opinion that academic credentials aside, Gainesville was a mecca for good ol' boys and that sort of regional culture. And as much as the city and university has to offer, here we are, only two hours away from Orlando and Tampa, but yet they seem to be removed from the collective Gainesville consciousness. I think that is in part, like the old adage, "you can't get there from here." That has changed with the Florida Jitney. While their service is exceptional, it is also what the Florida Jitney represents. They provide for the 200,000 people in this region, a stylish, modern, top of the line, commuter shuttle that finally for the first time in all of my years here, truly offers a viable transportation option to the dreaded automobile. While it is true that I love many things European, I am not a Europhile, nor a critic of all things American. But I do appreciate the European approach to urban planning and the overwhelming support and approval of public transit. This is what the Florida Jitney reminds me of. Almost with the snap of a finger I can board the Jitney and head into Orlando for a night around Thornton Park or the Mall at Millenia. This says nothing of how convenient and reasonably priced it is to take the Florida Jitney to the Orlando Airport which I'll do when I return to Philly and then on to Paris for the summer. I am actually writing this on board its "Central Florida Express." Through the tinted windows the sun is setting, the domed lights have come on and I am using my laptop with the Jitney's satellite internet. I stress the satellite part of it, because people who use the cellular connectivity to their Blackberries will be amazed with how fast the Jitney internet is! I connected about an hour ago and haven't been thrown off once. And the truth of it is, other such wifi services are often slow and clunky. So , what else can I tell you that makes this trip so unique. I think the satellite televisions are pretty cool. When I see other people watching the small screen in their SUV's you know it must be a DVD. But on the Jitney, it is live satellite programming. People flying out wanted to see the Weather Channel. Most people either search or watch CNN or MSNBC. There is no shortage of options; the Travel Assistant informed me there are over 70 channels. The Florida Jitney has an on-board Travel Assistant. She is there to get you to your seat, help with your bags (I usually just have a carry on) but best of all, after you are settled in, she will return to take your drink and food order. When she first approached me I asked her to repeat herself as it took me by surprise. They don't serve alcoholic beverages though I understand that is in the works. For now, there's a whole list of sodas, waters, juices and other drinks like Vitamin Water and Gatorade. Then she returns with whatever snack of choice someone selects. Yesterday morning, I took the cheese danish (and it was pretty good! not the vending machine kind!) and today I went with the big cookies, white chocolate macadamia nut and oatmeal-raisin. We just made the Wildwood stop and a couple got off to go to Inverness. It appeared they were actually sleeping and the Assistant gently, respectfully nudged them awake. No worries about missing your stop. And so it goes with the Florida Jitney. An almost luxurious way to travel. And from my perspective, uncommonly affordable. My ticket came out to 45 or 47 dollars. It would literally cost me more to drive this route (gas, tolls, parking, wear and tear) let alone the hassle, fighting off the sleepies, and wasting these hours I could be enjoying myself. For this review, I asked the Travel Assistant and was told of their impressive expansion plans. Apparently in time, the Florida Jitney will operate from one end of the state to the other! Great news for residents and visitors alike. What would be the biggest drawback about the Florida Jitney? If like some airlines in the past, they grow too fast, service suffers and the entire business fails as a result. This company could very well change the way we travel in FLA. Don't blow it.
