All the locals recommend these guys. However they are only open like 4 hours a day 3 days a week !…read moreI almost want to take them my boots for a spa day but what would I do shoeless in Las Cruces ? Seriously the owner was very solicitous and apologetic about her limited hours. I definitely want to go there when I can work around them

I called a few places in Alamogordo, but all had gone out of business. I was directed to call shoe repair businesses in Las Cruces. No problem; there were only two. The first place I called was Landis Boot & Shoe Service. After finally getting through, the gentleman introduced himself as Mr. Landis. He said he'd been in the shoe repair business for 80 years. He seemed nice enough. He suggested I call an upholsterer first and that there were a few in my town. I called all the upholsterers in Alamogordo and none had a machine with a long enough arm to sew the bottom of my saddlebags (I'm getting educated on some terms as I research). So I called Mr. Landis back. He seemed frustrated and annoyed. I suggested a general type of material I'd like to replace the burned part. He wanted to know specific fabric brands and thicknesses. I really didn't know what to tell him; I'm not in that business. I understand that he needs that information to do his sewing, but he's the expert and should know basically what's needed. He then rattled off a list of fabrics belittlingly. So apparently he did know and did have suggestions, he just wanted to convey them in as rude a way as possible. He took a very arrogant tone throughout the 6 minute conversation. He then told me to try somewhere else, not that he couldn't do it, rather a dismissal instead. I really didn't call to bandy technical terms about with an arrogant octogenarian. I didn't call for someone to pass the buck. I called for help. There was little to be found there. I don't understand how he's been in business for 80 years with that attitude.
