My husband and I recently had another great visit to Houston's very own, Gallery Furniture. We spent nearly two hours walking the showroom, looking at options and discussing all the possible choices for our home. Surprising both of us, my husband actually enjoyed the shopping experience. He typically dislikes shopping in any size, shape, or form, and he reinforced that aversion as we entered by saying, "let's get this over with." Despite his expectations, Hubby accompanied me through three full circuits of the showroom, and as we exited, he made no complaint. Not even about our $2,800 purchase! He later confessed that he "didn't hate the experience," which is his highest praise. We stuck to our plan and left with an 8-foot round Turkish rug and several Tempur-Pedic products. As expected, the quality of the products is top-notch. The rug will go perfectly beneath the hand-built, round Amish breakfast table we purchased at Gallery Furniture last year, which I discovered features the maker's autograph on the underside of the tabletop. Finally, the sales staff truly sets Gallery Furniture apart. Their approach focuses on helping rather than selling. By pairing one sales consultant with each customer upon arrival, they prevent you from being repeatedly asked the same can-I-help-you's and other annoying questions by random employees. The staff is excellent at answering questions, guiding you to what you want, and providing exactly the right amount of assistance for your particular shopping style. If you have never been to Gallery Furniture, or if it has been a while since your last visit, you are missing out. read more

So to be fair, my family and I have shopped at Gallery Furniture for many years (since the early 90s). The furniture bought 30+ years ago has lasted the test of time. I personally bought more furniture from Gallery about 10 years ago and some of it lasted and some of it didn't. But this last purchase (from December 2024) was an absolute horrible buy, and I'm forced to now give a negative review. In December of 2024, my mom purchased a 3-seat, microfiber sofa with reclining seats on each end. It was one of the highly advertised sofas where you can spill anything on it and the fabric won't absorb the spill. For a few months, we were enjoying the sofa. But recently (and after only one year of purchase), the sofa has been emitting the most horrible smell. We have had the sofa professionally cleaned and frequently cleaned by home machines. But nothing will get the odor out of the sofa. The professional cleaning company advised us that microfiber sofas are known for absorbing body sweat and will eventually emit strong musty/sour odors. After only one year of ownership, we will be forced to buy a new sofa (FROM ANOTHER FURNITURE STORE) because the smell that the Gallery Furniture sofa holds is horrid. Believe what you want, my house is clean and stays clean. Myself and my family take very good care of our furniture and make it last for decades. But this sofa is not what's hot. We've called Gallery Furniture to see if they had any suggestions on how to clean the sofa because its only a year old and the smell is so strong. But they had nothing to offer. Please do NOT waste your money on these highly advertised and EXPENSIVE microfiber sofas from Gallery Furniture. They begin to stink after a few months of ownership. read more

I just got off the phone with a racist named Billy. He works in the store as a salesperson, underpaid and certainly missing all the marks in business. Somehow someway he was able to search my address online and ask me if I really lived at the location. He stated that he saw my home listed on Har.com for rent. He sounds like a complete creep. Of course, I'm a beautiful black woman and when he heard the voice, he decided to say, "Oh I live in the neighborhood, and I walk my kids in the area." Sounds just like a creep to me. Some sort of stalker also, to look up a customer's information to find out what exactly sounds quite dangerous. I decided to do a little research of my own, and it led me to the startup of "Mattress Mack", being a businesswoman myself and seeing he started his business with his wife in 1981 for $5000, was impressive. But to have to succumb to hiring an incompetent creep/stalker such as Billy is an exceptional failure in business and customer service. I see why the rating is a "F". Failure, and for sure be warned and do not Shop here. This is my first experience with Gallery Furniture these and these people, I'm disgusted. It was only over the phone as well. The purchase was only for 3 mattresses; you can't pay me to shop there now. I didn't even get a chance to go into the store. I used to be one of Gallery Furniture's biggest supporters. I've purchased multiple big ticket items from the store. Unfortunately, I'm going through a divorce and it's gotten pretty messy and I needed to get the receipt. Both of our names are on one receipt and an old girlfriend is on another receipt. They both pull up under my customer code and there should be no issue sending it to me. I got a gentleman named Steve Hays on the phone and I tell him I need to get the receipt for my divorce and he immediately tells me there's no way they will send me a receipt because I'm in the middle of a divorce and Gallery Furniture does not want to get in the middle of anything. What?! Regardless what it's for, I purchased it and it's under my name. You should send me the receipt. This should not be a debate. This should just be something that happens. Second purchase, they would not give it to me because it only had my customer code on it and not my name. Instead of putting my name, they put it under my customer code, but the loan was taken out in my name and my ex name. They absolutely refused to give me this receipt because the only name clear and present was my exes name. Even though payment was clearly made from my card. I was perfectly OK paying their absurdly high marked up rates on their furniture because they do good things for the community and they are a Houston landmark. I do not abide by being treated like a second class citizen just because I'm going through a hard time. My kid's outdoor class got cancelled and we had heard great things about Gallery Furniture's inside. I haven't been in here since I was a child. There were little buggy scooter things you could push your children around lined up outside so we grabbed one and headed in. The minute we arrive there was Houston memorabilia all over the entrance and around the store. You can tell this place is Houston proud and we appreciate that. We were greeted by a salesman who wasn't too pushy and just told us to let him know if we needed anything. I was personally just looking around and wanted to see what was available and what type of price range was offered. We were pleased with the selection and plan on buying our next couch from there and possibly dining table. Our kid also needs a bed but he has a full size mattress so we might have to skip the kid size beds. Overall a well lit and managed place. People were very friendly and helpful and didn't overwhelm you. Also there was a great kids area with slides and furniture so your kids could run amuck while you looked at age appropriate furniture. My kid went wild for it and he was the only one in there so that was nice to be able to look and not regulate too much. There were also random people on laptops around the store. I couldn't tell if they worked there or if they were working and hanging out at Gallery Furniture because what a great place to do it all. I would study there if they would let me. They have some beautiful furniture but it was all way to big. The headboards were real tall. We found several living room sets but only the ones were on the floor models. We really wanted to buy our furniture from Gallery Furniture because Jim M. does so much for the Houston community. Also, the salesman named Tim was very friendly & helpful. He know a lot about the furniture they sell. Very nice man. Since we did not find exactly what we were looking for we ended up going somewhere else. My purchase experience was great, but my furniture service experience was unmatched and exceptional. I never anticipated needing to send furniture in for repair however, due to a broken leg we needed to call for help. The customer service team coordinated a furniture pickup date that worked with the repair schedule. The chair was picked up and returned within the same week. It was raining out, so the team made sure that plastic wrap and a cloth chair cover protected the fabric when they returned it. So first the backstory - picking furniture is pretty important so there are a ton of things to weigh. How long do I want it to last? What's the cost relative to other places? And of course what are some of the reviews pros/cons at different places. Ultimately I went with paying a little more for something that will last longer - mostly because you could hear the frustration with some reviews. Especially in retail customer service is one of those things that is so important and from the moment I stepped foot until I got a call from Mac it was 5 star all the way. Initially I wanted to buy online I just wanted to see what it felt like and also get an idea of what the dimensions of the couch looked like in person. Enrique was awesome - he was happy to show me what I was looking for and even suggested colors. And I told him that I was buying online just wanting to see what it was like in person. Enrique was very personable and knowledgeable - gave me some things to consider that I hadn't. So I decided to purchase there at the store instead - mostly because he was so helpful without being pushy. Mind you I was short on time so they worked quickly and had I been able to I would have gotten my furniture the same day. I opted to wait for the next day since I had prior engagements. I had a raggedy old couch and the guys were quick to get rid of it (good riddance). The movers were like magicians because I did not think that couch was coming in the door but somehow they managed to get it in and were pleasant and respectful the whole time. And of course the cherry on top of what was already stellar service Mattress Mack gave me a call to check on my purchase and see if I was happy with the service. Yeah it costs a little more but the quality of the furniture and the exemplary customer service are why I would highly recommend at least visiting if you are looking for new furniture because you deserve the best. read more

They're hovering over you the entire time and there's no way to enjoy picking out new furniture or mattress when salespeople won't give you space to discuss with your spouse. "Mack gives back" isn't true unless it's for a public broadcast. There's no "giving" to regular people who come to spend years of savings on new mattress & furniture. purchased a tempur-pedic mattress from them. Worst mattress ever! they have a no return policy so we are stuck with an unusable mattress. The sales person told us it was the best mattress they sold, only that since the split king we purchased was so new that they did not have one on the showroom floor / tuns out the mattress delivered was nothing like the item we tested in the showroom. Their response was "sorry the mattress on the showroom floor is already broken in" wish they would have mentioned that during the sales pitch!. They did allow us to trade in for another tempur-pedic, but it is just as bad. The delivery guys actually said that this was the number one returned item / the salesman actually told us that we were the first to ever return. The folks at Tempur-pedic actually said you should try walking on it to help break it in. My fault for trusting that people do the right thing. Hard to swallow a $10,000 lesson. Bought a 3500.00 living room set about 6 months ago. After the first month the recliner was leaning to one side and the cushion was caving in. My wife sits on it and she only weighs about 127#. The couch cushion I sit on has also caved in. Gallery sent a repair company out after the first month and only replaced the cushions. A month later both are caved in again. I had spinal fusion surgery on March 17th and had been sleeping on an old recliner that did not have adjustable positions. Saw the Mattress Mack commercial with the remotely adjustable positions. I called the North Freeway location at 5:25PM on Tuesday night and it was delivered at 8:00 PM the same night. While I loved the store itself I am extremely disappointed in the Maczcliner. We have a reclining couch we bough 20 years ago from Gallery and it is still in good shape BUT the recliner we just bought is horrible. It is not comfortable at all. It is stiff as a board. After sleeping in it one night my shoulder hurt for 3 days and my hip stille hurts.. We contacted customer service only to find out we can only exchange the chair-- there is nothing I want to exchange it for! We went out of town and when we returned I thought I might as well give it another try. Never again-- I now have a return of the same pain. I had a great experience shopping for a mattress at GF. The serviceman was very nice, helpful, and explained everything. I wasn't sure what I needed and he helped me narrow down all the options to best fit my sleeping habits and help issues with hip pain. Financing was quick and easy and all details were covered. Delivery was same day, easy breezy. They set up the new and removed the old a made it look easy. They adjusted the area rug to my specs and never seemed in a hurry as some have prior. The quality of the furniture is the only good thing about this place. I am writing this review out of anger at the absolute scummy behavior of this place. It is my fault for not reading the fine print, but I was assured the payments would be sufficient. I originally financed about 11,000 for 0%. Gallery furniture set the payments reach up to about 10% of the loan amount by the time the promotion ended. Never made a late payment but was hit with the interest of the entire loan when it was almost paid off. Conveniently the APR jumped to an astronomical amount. To the point where a $3000 balance will take you 2 years to pay off. I get if you aren't paying attention and your payment is only 20% of the total loan, but the intention bait and switch tactics will make you sick to your stomach when it happens to you. This predatory behavior should be illegal, and it is absolutely abhorrent. I am writing this in hope that at least one person takes the time to read it and is steered away. Let the several thousands of dollars more I have to spend now be a warning. I certainly will make it a point at social gatherings and events; I will make a point to bring this up to prevent someone else from falling for this scam. Normally I don't fall for this kind of trap, but they got me and I will never buy a piece of furniture from this place again. Today, i received both an email from Kenny, the sales guy, and then a personal call from Mattress Mack who left a message (unmistakeable voice) thanking me for my purchase and advising me to get in touch with him if I had any issues at all.
