They also had a couple of fall lessons over the last few years. She tried to book lessons for a weekend in October and was very aggressively pursued by a young teenager giving lessons to book. Although the price was now much higher, she decided to book 2 half hour lessons for the girls ($200). She was charged $2,500 for some package. The teenager had referred to a package but it was not clear to my daughter that she was being asked to sign up. How do you charge a person that amount without any indication that this charge is being applied to review? What kind of sales strategy is this to make young teenagers hound clients to lure them into a package deal that is not fully explained and charged to their account without giving them the opportunity to review charges and agree to them? This is a scam!

They accept youngsters to adults for horse riding lessons here. It's also a not for profit organization. You can learn English or Western riding, along with grooming and barn management lessons. They can also be combined. For parents this is a terrific thing to treat your kids to. They also accept full and part time volunteers. They also accept tax deductible donations. Located on Randall's Island which I run on a lot, and easy to get to off the Wards Island Bridge.

Amazing and unforgettable experience!…read more Came here to have my first ever horseback riding experience two weeks ago. People are so nice and warm. Instructors are very patient and motivating. After my first 30 mins on the horse, I have fallen in love with the riding. Decided to take regular classes right after, and now I am looking forward to my weekly lesson and interaction with the horses!! In addition to public lessons, they provide therapeutic riding for those in needs as well. Plus, they are non profit making organization, the lesson fees are going to be used in somewhere meaningful. Taking lessons here is win-win for sure. Highly recommended! Hopefully in the nearby future, would be advanced enough to ride on the trail in the nearby Forest Park!

I won't list all of them - just some highlights. My friend, who is not experienced, wanted to do this trail ride for our birthdays and we thought it would be fun. I've been on trail rides all over the world and know what to expect, and have never pulled out of a ride because I didn't feel safe until this place. I was the first person to be mounted and when the horse came out, I could see that the saddle was improperly placed too far back. I didn't say anything because it's not my place, but when I mounted, the girth was clearly too loose as the saddle started to slip. I told them that the girth was too loose and also that the saddle seemed to far back so Janet said let's reset the saddle and asked me how I would do it! She didn't seem to know the proper placement or how tight to make the girth because apparently this happened before. She then told me to walk down the lawn and let the horse graze while I waited for the rest of the group. It's not a safe practice to let horses graze while mounted, especially with beginners, but apparently that's what they do regularly. When the group was ready to leave, Janet started off on her horse and just about 30 yards from the barn, before even getting to the trail, the horse tripped and fell all the way down to the ground!! Janet fell off of course, and the horse walked off. If I had any doubt that all the red flags I'd clocked were right, this confirmed it. She was shaken up but ok, but didn't go on the ride, I don't know what was up with the horse but if a horse falls down just walking across a lawn, that raises questions about soundness and safety that are serious.

It is a great place for tweens to learn not only how to ride, but also how to properly care for, respect, and handle horses. One thing I especially appreciate is how well the horses are treated. The horses are amazing, clearly well cared for, and we have never seen them being mistreated. The counselors are very nice, knowledgeable, and attentive, and they are also very good about establishing and enforcing rules, which is so important when children are working with horses. Over her two summers at Brooklyn Equine, my daughter has learned a lot about how to confidently handle horses, be in control while working with them, and understand the responsibility that comes with caring for these beautiful animals. Another thing we really appreciate is that they welcome campers back to visit the horses during the year. They have always been very warm and welcoming when we have returned, which makes the experience feel even more special and creates a real sense of community. Overall, Brooklyn Equine has been a very positive and valuable experience for my daughter, and I would definitely recommend it to families with tweens who love horses and want to learn more about caring for and working with them.

I didn't think it was a scam because it was being promoted by the Prospect Park website. So i signed up and paid $15 dollars to drop in between 1-3 pm on a Sunday for a ride plus being able to pet and feed the horses. It is in East 8th street and caton place which is nearby the Park Circle at Prospect Park and close to the B103 and B16 bus stops (plus a walk from the F and G) It is a horse stable so.. it smells like horse. There is no getting around that fact. The horse rides were first come first serve so we wrote our names on a list to wait our turn. In the mean time, we pet and fed another horse (who was pretty active and very food-motivated). It was recommended that we brought certain food items like apples without the seeds. My nephew enjoyed his ride back and forth with a tinier horse. It was slow and controlled. Overall, I think this is a cute experience to do if you don't want to go farther out into Brooklyn to have kids experience horses. They have rides until October so this could be something to do.
