Enclosed and well taken care of. Water for dogs and bags to use. For the most part a good group of dog owners frequent.

The current was rushing with the winds direction and even the gulls could not compensate to pick out the hunks of Italian bread we frisbee-ed in, Lord how they tried. Two distinguishing tall gated areas - being under 30 pounds and to the left, the over 30 pounded which is a wide range but the park didn't set up for excessive headlong running, so high impact mid park collisions seemed to not be likely. The cutest senior Beagle approached me as I let Phil go and greet which he wanted no part of and it wasn't registering as to why. My further entry in was all on hold, the Beagles eyes never left mine as I lovingly stroked him. But Phil was having issues with two puffed out electrified cotton balls with paws that yipped and yapped in his mug without letting up. His owner was engaged in chit chat, not realizie that his dogs are about to get turned and twisted inside out any moment. In point of fact, just about no dog owners were looking at anything but themselves, so it was about to pop, I could feel it, Phil liked nothing about this park, so we went for the exit. The release knob allows for easy access in, horrible access out and my 6'2 long armed frame struggled to get the release knob pulled because it's on the entrance side. Of course the guy with the puff balls from hell comes right up to the gate in an attempt to leave at the same moment! Clearly a covid dog owner - no sense of potential problems no concept of other peoples dogs and there are just so many of you out there now. And after I managed to get the hell away from there, I spun around to see the sweetest thing, the senior beagle followed me out of the two gates and into the parking lot. His owner was very sweet and collected that love dog. Gosh, that little fellow really made my day and I'll reflect upon him often, but the park -- and the owners -- I'll prefer to forget.

The Scene: Gathered in the meadow area of Prospect Park, roughly 12 people are loafing around as their canine companions gallop and trot in circles, entertaining themselves in ways that only dogs know how. A quaint, well groomed Maltese named Delila has strayed from the pack. Although in no immediate danger, Delila has caught the eye of a rambunctious young Boxer named Baxter. Baxter has been subject of controversial ramblings withing the dog run community, mostly from owners of small dogs, who feel that his status as an un-neutered, large dog poses a threat to their pooches. In the blink of an eye, Baxter takes off and slides in behind a startled Delila. Like a true pro, Baxter dislodges his lipstick from its case, mounts Delila, and launches into a series of rhythmic hip thrusts. The petite Maltese lets a little yelp, which loosely translates to : "Make this happen, Big Daddy, make this happen!" This impromptu episode of canine copulation alarms some nearby dog parents, who immediately spring into action, prying the mischievous mutts apart. As he is being dragged away, Baxter stares down at the grass forlornly, knowing that he was only seconds away from Milking the Bone. Two different dog owners agree to guard Delila and Baxter while their respective owners meet underneath "The Understanding Tree" to discuss what has just transpired. Baxter's master is Jacob, a 29 year old investment banker who finds new music by plugging in Arcade Fire on Amazon.Com and finding out what other users purchased. Audrey, doting dog mother to Delila, is a 32 year old, Harvard educated attorney who puts in 80+ hours a week at a well known white shoe law firm in midtown Manhattan. By all accounts, the dog run IS her social life, albeit a small one at that. With their dogs safely apart, Jacob and Audrey delve into a analysis of Baxter's play for Delila: Audrey: I think Delila was leaving the dog circle to have some alone time Jacob: Baxter sensed she was in danger, so he was attempting to draw her back in. Audrey: Draw her back in...doggy style? Jacob: Baxter would never harm Delila! Audrey: If I understand the manner in which he was panting, I suppose Baxter was trying to communicate his anxiety and fears over the potential loss of Delila to the rest of the group. And the way he moped and frowned when we pulled them apart...he was sad because he feared that Delila still might be in danger. Jacob: That's what I'm telling you, Audrey. *Audrey and Jacob hug as the remainder of the dog run parents erupt into applause.* What most of the dog run parents fail to realize is that Baxter was just trying to get laid. In fact, if the dog run parents followed Baxter's example and tried to get laid themselves, they would likely spend fewer hours at the dog run assembling a master's thesis on Canine Psychology. In some alternate universe, the dogs are running the show, and they bring the people to the people run, and talk about real dog stuff. Jack Russel: Dude, did you smell that Bichon Frise ass over on Garfield Place this morning? That was off the hook! Dobie Pincher: Was it rubbed up against the fire hydrant near the corner of 7th??? Jack Russel: That's the one! Dobie Pincher: I KNOW her man...that's the crazy thing. I saw her once at the people run...with no human! Scotty Dog: What kinda a broad comes to the people run with no people? Dobie: Same kind that rubs her ass on every street lamp between here and 12th Street. *laughs* Scotty: Here comes Bull Dog. Bully: Hey boys...wanna get together and play poker later? Dobie: Poker? What does this look like? A painting? *laughs* Bully: Kiss my ass, Dobie! Dobie: Not my type, tubby! Jack Russel: Yo Scotty. Your human is following that chick behind the tree over there. Scotty: That's cool. He definitely needs to get laid.

The first two times he was traumatized by the interaction from the other active and playful dogs. However, by the third visit, he was running and playing with a few of the dogs. I'm a first time dog owner, so the park looks fine to me. It's large enough for the dogs to interact with each other or venture to the side by themselves. I've met some amazing dog owners who have all been very friendly and helpful. Definitely bring your own water because I didn't see where you can fill the bowls they have in the park. They have a few benches for you to sit while the dogs play. I wish I lived closer to this park to take Milo more often. However, it will be my go to spot for him. Oh and each time I've taken Milo to the park, he sleeps like a baby at night. woo hoo!

I did my research and decided on Forest Park Barking Lot, and was also told that they had just reopened from renovations. It was also nice of the President to email me back when I sent an inquiry about if the lot was opened again. We've come with our pup twice, and he always takes a well deserved nap (and bath) both times. There's a large and small dog area, which is great if small dog owners want to make sure their dogs don't get trampled by the large ones! The park is great, there is nothing negative about the park itself. I haven't seen any dog poo just chilling in the park. It seems well managed. Some of the owners are very friendly as well. I think the watering hole is closed for the winter coming, so bring your own water! The only thing is that the two times we've been there, the same unneutered dogs seem to instigate humping that turns into fights. It's unfortunate, but some owners aren't very vigilant in watching their dogs and let the fights break out. We've seen two dog fights in which the owner of the ones being humped excessively, scream as they try to take their dog back. Most dogs tend to leave the park post fights. It ruins the whole park vibe when this happens, and isn't fair to others when we all just want our pups to have a good time.

I…read moredrive 20 minutes to come here as a treat for my dogs, as it's the largest dog park I know of and has some great off-leash allowed walking space as well. There is basically 4 different areas in this park - a small dog area, 2 large dog areas and a short wooded path that you can walk on with your dog. Sometimes I've been here where they close half the larger dog area, I'm not sure why this is. In the parking lot, there is a port-a-john for us humans, and trash can/doggie bags for the pups. Everyone seems to be really responsible here with their dog which is a major benefit. Some cons: - can be muddy after rain - no trash cans or bags provided inside the park area, only before you enter the park - sometimes they close half the park (I don't know why this is?) - limited seating/benches for humans

The lifeguards are attentive -- they even have a drone that I think looks out for sharks. There's a bunch of tables right outside and they usually have a dope DJ mix going on. It's just a shame that there's a big sign that tells people not to ride their bikes and scooters through that area, but they do anyway... shame! Parking can be hit or miss based on what time and what day you go. Sometimes we've parked right across the street from the boardwalk. Other times we've parked three blocks away. Street parking is available but not that easy to get. I googled and read that the southern parking spots on Shore Front Pkwy are not for public use. Didn't want to take a chance so found one (north side) by Beach 95th St. Beach 95-97 area was pretty lively last Friday. Saw a schedule of events until 8/31. There was the surf music festival with live bands performing; also a stage performance of Romeo and Juliet at the Rockaway Beach ampitheater. Beach 97 has food vendors; lifeguard station. Update: Enjoying Off The Rails live performance on 8/29 right now. Restrooms were dirty and smelly though. I know that a lot of people use them but need better maintenance. Only 1 sink was left on 8/29. Showers were on the boardwalk making the area sandy and wet. The beach/sand was coarser and a lot more broken shells, some sharp, when compared to Long Beach NY which we've gone to recently. Waves were much stronger too.
