My father and I came in looking for old pawn jewelry and just some jewelry in general to buy. Many years ago we previously bought from Shi'ma Traders. We always had great service and purchased quality jewelry pieces. I guess those days are long gone. The young woman working there didn't even acknowledge us with a simple hello, and we were the only ones in the store. That should have been a warning sign right there. I looked through a small basket of sale items, none of which I was looking for. She never said a word other than to answer "no" when I asked if she had anymore old pawn items other than in the case. No questions on what I was looking for, style, etc. That was my queue to take my business elsewhere. That's too bad, I had money to spend. :/

This place is an absolute SCAM. I dropped off a BASIC ring to get resized. The owner examined the…read morering and said it would cost $50-$60 dollars. When I tried to get the ring back, they said I needed to pay $300 for FIVE hours of work to resize ONE ring. They're demanding a dollar a minute for their time. Absolutely CRIMINAL. It's a shame places like this can take advantage of Navajo families. This is predatory. I'll be filing a complaint with the Gallup BBB.

My cousin brought me here to shop and they gave her the key so she could show me things I liked in glass cases; they were so trusting and friendly. I like to put things on and walk around a bit, to see if I find something else to replace it by the time I am ready to check out, so a lot of switches happened. However, after I had chosen my treasures, I noticed I still had a ring on my finger! I would have walked out with it. They laughed, examined the ring, and actually threw it in with all the other purchases. So nice. My dad offered to pay for a more expensive set I loved, and I would pay for some smaller items myself, but when we got up to the counter he shoved everything to the salesman (habit, I guess) so I thought he was just going to pay for everything after all. Typical of him. While he was settling the bill I was asking the names of all the stones so I could write them down. They put them in boxes and we left. A few minutes later my dad asked if I had paid for the other pieces; he didn't recall shoving everything to the salesman; we checked the receipt and they had only charged us for one set, so we called my cousin. She said they had just called her because they forgot to charge us. We were horrified! I joked that I guess I was determined to steal something from them! But it's no joke, it was awful! my dad dropped us at El Rancho hotel because we wanted to look around and he went back to pay them. They were so nice, he said. A few days later, we went back to pick up my fathers' broken turquoise watch band they had fixed for him, and also were hoping to buy some bracelets for my niece since the ones she loved in Santa Fe were high priced compared to what we paid in Gallup. They invited us in to shop some more and laughed about the incident a few days earlier. They said they didn't think for a second that I had stolen it, they understood what had happened. That made me feel so much better, I would hate for them to think I would do that to them! Anyway, I hope to shop here again, their merchandise is lovely. I have not stopped wearing it and I get compliments every day. :)

The more I looked the more difficult it was to choose. However, I am extremely pleased with the few pieces I bought. They offered excellent prices, thanks to my dear aunt :) Everyone was really nice. I only wish some of the bracelets were a bit bigger. I don't have large wrists, but I could not get many of them around my little wrists!
