But I stopped by on a Tuesday afternoon alone with a mission: Magic the Gathering cards. I was looking for Innistrad bundle set (2021), which they did not have. The shopkeeper led me to a small section of the store and they have very limited trading card games available. They had the draft set booster for way over the market price. They had it listed for $139 when TCGPlayer has brand new, factory sealed for $78, and have median pricing ~$103. Maybe it was because I was passive or didn't do in-depth research prior, but I felt hostility from the shopkeeper - like he needed me to make a decision and buy something despite they said they didn't have the bundle set I was looking for or get out. They stood by me as I processed what I should do since they didn't have the bundle set I was looking for. I simply thanked them for their time and left.

I grew up in that era so I was stoked to see so many old familiar titles on display. I will say the place felt almost more like a museum or a hobbyist's den than a store, lol. Not a lot of obvious price tags on much of the older stuff; clearly if you were interested in purchasing, you'd need to get the help of an employee. Most of it was either behind glass or on an inaccessible shelf as well. Which makes a certain sense, because these are collector's pieces at this point that require careful handling. You don't want any kid wandering in and messing with a game cartridge worth $100+. I didn't buy anything while there, but it was really fun to marvel and take it all in like a sightseer, or time traveler haha. It was a pretty large store (at least double the footprint than GameStop) and there were plenty of fun decorations on the walls or hanging from the ceiling. Lots of arcade cabinets and such. Anyway, they must be doing okay because this is their newest secondary location. I'll have to stop by the original in Shakopee sometime.

The staff has always been friendly, helpful, and pleasant to deal with. * as a girl who has actively been playing video games since Doom I and MS-DOS commands (no *gurl g4m3r* nonsense here), here is some indisputable truth: the gaming industry has a tendency towards misogyny. At way too many other Gamestops and video game stores in general, I've had to deal with condescension, eye-rolling, and the assumption that I'm there buying a video game for my manfriend and not myself. I have never EVER experienced that kind of bs at this Gamestop location, and I really appreciate that. * decent selection, decent deals, and has never had any stocking issues in my experience. Also socks, gifts. Very friendly employees. The used books are mixed in with the new books: if you open up the front page and there is a price marked in pencil, is a used book.
