That said, I LOVE the clothes and jewelry at Shellz. The sales associate was friendly and helpful, too. My daughters and I visited Jonesborough recently and spent quite a bit of time there, trying on clothes and oohing and ahhing over everything we saw! I am NOT a shopper normally, but it was so much fun finding things I liked and could wear. I appreciate that the owner didn't buy only for size 0 teenagers, too! My only sore point is that we don't live very close and there isn't an online shopping option! Hope that will be coming soon!

I told her that I could take the boot over to Unicoi myself, she said, "He has the same tools that we have"... I reminded her that he is a professional cobbler. The designer wasn't there but their business card was so I grabbed it. It was a women's XL shirt so I thought it would be too small. Actually it was the size of a men's triple XL. I guess will have to order one my size. Other shirts I saw there (different designer though) were "Heifer Please" and "The Confederate States of America - Love it or Leave it" (bravest losers of all time)... oh and the Jeep ones that say "Boobie Bouncer." They also had a section that printed older style shirts, like the "In Loving Memory" ones or the heart ones with you and your lover's name. I remember at the fair seeing these type of shirts all the time in the 80's but very rarely anymore. I've missed them. I wanted to get one but it was overwhelming with all of the choices. Also at the flea market was this device kids could attach to their bike and then add chalk to it so they can draw things as they ride or if you want your kid to ride over to the neighbors and write "suck it" in their driveway... Saw a handwritten sign that said "free smells," and later realized they were selling candles or something but at first wasn't sure if I wanted to sniff or not... it was candles so I opted out...

Grade: A Atmosphere- Located in a strip mall, What you see with MEC is what you get. The store is well lit, reasonably clean with wide rows that are well stocked. The only major drawback is a strong musty smell that permeates throughout. This could probably be remedied with a good dehumidifier and carpet cleaning. Grade: C- Knowledge/Customer Service- while not as knowledgeable as other stores in the area, MEC is one of the more professional and friendly. Each staff member has been genuinely courteous, helpful and willing to go way out of their way to get what I need. One instance, the gentleman called a competitor to help find the book I wanted. MEC is also the best comic store in terms of price. It is the only comic store in the tri state area that offered a 10% discount for purchasing 5 or more books. Grade: A- Quality/Selection- MEC has a moderate to large selection of mainstream and adult comics. But if you are looking for Indy titles, this is your place. This section alone is larger than all new titles combined at their regional competitors. A small selection of games, toys and cards are also available. If you are looking for back issues however, I would try elsewhere. they have very little past 1990 and most is not in collector condition. On a side note, I would like to see a better display method for Marvel and DC comics near the front. Most comics in that space, on the other side of the counter are damaged along the spines due to over packing the comics into the media cases. Grade: B- Overall: This store has one of the largest selections of indy titles in the tri state area. Their customer service is second to none. However, if you need back issues, I would look elsewhere. Overall Grade: B-
