I don't even know where to start... Games Unlimited is the best game store I have been to in my entire lifetime. Before moving back to California, this place felt like home to me. Every worker here will nail you with the best board game recommendations not even AI can beat. I have never seen a board game store so large and organized. You'd think because I'm from SoCal that this store would be nothing to me but you could never be so wrong. Everyone who works here is so personable, so lovable and so passionate about the hobbies they share. I will never forget this store. I was introduced to game genres I never thought I would be interested in like 'Shake That City' to 'Mysterium Park'. Memories were shared here with my S.O. that I will never forget and those memories I took back home to play with my family and friends. I don't think I am ever going to experience the hospitality I experienced in this place ever again. I love this place. I might love it too much. We have been known to drop hundreds of dollars here. I just really appreciate the demo tables and the used and of course the section of mystery games like Unlock. And RPGs in the back I got this Labyrinth book RPG which was the most fun party I've ever hosted. Also so many puzzles! Hello fellow Yelpers! The number of board games that we've bought from here is uncountable at this point. The staff are so freaking friendly and helpful. You tell them what you are looking for and they will give so many great recommendations. Here's why it's an easy five stars for us...they practice what they preach. When they recommend games they will tell you whether they have played it or not and why they like or don't like it. 9 times out of 10 they have played it because the staff hosts their own game nights to test out all the games! How freaking cool is that. So glad they continue to expand plus they always have some games out to let you try and the selection is expansive. Is the price cheaper than online? Not always, but the price difference is usually only a couple of bucks. Plus you can earn points to get discounts, but they have their amazing staff and local store to support. I always say support local when you can and this place deserves it. Stop by have a hoot, see if you can try to not buy something haha. If you're strapped for cash and an addict to board games like me, sometimes buy online sometimes come into the store and support. I see this store as quintessential Pittsburgh and hope it's around for ages to come! Plus locations great since if you get hungry or want a snack the food in the area is some of the best! On a scale of cotton candy to Brussels sprouts, Games Unlimited is an array of snacks! Step through their sliding glass doors and discover a world of board games. While we were there, they had a few games out to demonstrate if anyone was interested (we played a round, and it was a fun way to experience a game before making a purchase decision). No bathroom I could see, but they did have a water fountain with bottle filler. Another nice option is their used games shelf where you can find family favorites for a discounted price! Friendly local game store, 4.5/5 stars. In a post e-commerce world, sometimes you wonder why brick and mortar retailers are still a thing, or what additional value they add. Places like this are the exception. Love that they always have a few rotating games on display that you can actually demo (one of the staff will explain the rules and play a round with you). They have a knowledgeable and friendly staff that will either give you recommendations for games or offer to demo a game. They also carry some games that have not received a wide release and are not available in the standard e-commerce sites. And besides, it's just really cool to have a spot like this where you can go in person to wander the aisles and look at all the games you've seen online. If I could subtract half a star, it's because prices are often not as low as you could find online or in big box stores. Given there's other value this shop offers, slightly higher prices are expected and okay. It's just unfortunate in the occasional cases where a game might not just be "slightly" higher but significantly higher. read more

I checked out their used games section and found a gem- a Goonies (my favorite movie of all time) game. The price was reasonable and the game was in perfect condition. Prices are definitely higher than you'll find online, but it's worth it to support a local business. They offer demo's on the weekend of different games. We took part in a demo, and liked the game enough to buy it. They also offer game rentals (for a fee) so you can try out a game before buying it. This store has been in Pittsburgh for many years now and the people that work here are great. They have a great game selection, with lots of Euro-type strategy games and puzzles. The staff are all very knowledgeable and will give you helpful recommendations. They have a fun borrowing program, where you can borrow games for $5. If you return the game within a week, the $5 becomes store credit. They often have demos out where you can try some new board games briefly. There are used games, demos, events, waitlists for hard to get games etc. the staff is extremely friendly and somehow know everything about every game it seems! After only playing a few games they were able to take that info and guide me to some similar games I would like as well as different ones I could catch onto pretty quickly. On their Facebook page they do unboxing videos which is great tonsee their new inventory. The prices are often cheaper than amazon. They have a reward program too. Street parking is available and pretty Easy to get a spot. Note- there is no public bathroom. The best game store I've been to in years. There's a wide range of games (including some of the more obscure ones), and I love that there's something in there for everyone regardless of their experience with games. Some of the best tabletop RPG sections I've seen (meaning, they have all the D&D manuals and everything else under the sun as well). The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable: once I needed some advice on what games to buy for RPG-shy folx and ended up getting what I needed plus three games for myself because it was just that good. They also have game demos for some of the more tactile games and those are fun to watch/try out. I'm kicking myself in the shin that I won't get to go to Games Unlimited much when I move away from Pittsburgh, but when I come back to visit, y'all could guess I'm going to come right back here. My friendly local game store. Emphasis on friendly. The staff here are all fun, open, friendly people who love to share the hobby. I've watched them talk to people just looking to get into the hobby with as much respect and enthusiasm as long-time customers into the heaviest of heavy games. My favorite interaction is when the owner greeted us and asked if he could help, and my wife said she had a bit of a challenge for him. He got excited and said he loved a challenge. He then recommended a number of games that fit a very exacting set of criteria (different ages of children who spoke little to no English) and you could tell was actually happy to help. I've had several games opened up and demo'd for me right on the counter. This is probably more effective than any sales pitch or review, since you can actually see if a game is up your alley. The lending library is a great idea. A very good price to try out a game before you buy it, and since games can be expensive this can save you a good amount of money on a game that's not a perfect fit for you. One of my favorite features of the store is the ability to send an email to preorder, order, or hold a game for you. You'll get a call once it's in and just need to go pick it up. No shipping costs involved. The game selection itself is certainly nice, and anything they don't have they can order. read more

Yes, I am a geek, but for some reason I've never felt at ease in these uber geeky places like game stores. Games unlimited is a major exception. They have very friendly staff who will talk with beginner gamers about Ticket to Ride and even Monopoly (true gamers HATE monopoly) while discussing the finer points of strategy for Tigris and Euphrates and Puerto Rico. Both Kylie and Bob are super friendly and they'll happily explain game mechanics, they may show you what's in the game the box, or maybe pull out the game ipad app for a quick trial round, Unlike amazon, they also give you suggestions and recommendations based on what you like to play rather than what you bought before. Even better, if you're not happy after playing a game a couple of times there's always the trade-in shelf. I would also like to point out that the place has been around for 34 years, so they must be doing something right and I'll definitely spend my pocket change there. read more

I have been shopping at this store since around 1980 when I had to travel across town for my Dungeons and Dragon supplies. Along came other great RPG games like Car Wars, and popular party games like Trivial Pursuit, and I got them all here. When my children were little we found games for tots, and over the years we've found many family games. It would be a huge accolade to say the store has maintained it's quality over all those years, but I have to say that it has actually gotten BETTER. A huge variety, from party games to two-person games, simple and quick games to all day marathon games. And now you can try before you buy with the demo games, and even trade in your old games for something you'll like better! Why am I in the minority among my friends when I say that I still love Saturday night board games with family or a group of friends?! I feel that not many people appreciate this anymore, because I grew up with card and boardgames. If you are like me, this is a great place for you. Games Unlimited has a great diversity of games, although it is skewed more towards the new than the old (i.e., I STILL can't find a place that sells Tornado Rex!). I am continually surprised at what shows/movies have been adapted into board games (Game of Thrones and Battlestar Galactica, anyone?)- but unfortunately I would say that most of them are very similar themes packaged up in different colors. Anyway, the guy who works here really knows his stuff, and he even pulled out a game set when I had a question about a particular game. Plus, they even have a system where you can rent games out to try to see if you like them! That is incredibly useful for buyers, because patrons don't really know the intricacies of a game by just reading the back of the box. Visiting in town from TX and hitting the game shops. We don't have many great ones there. It was great to walk in a store with the selection that Games Unlimited has. Plus it was well organized. Most of my games are bought off the internet but it lacks the personal touch of talking with someone and getting feedback on games. This is where Games Unlimited excels. The owner spent time finding out what I liked. Gave me time to look around without any pressure. Ended up buying two games. One new, one used. I'm a bit OCD, so it was a leap of faith to buy a used game. Got back to the place I was staying and emptied the box to check it - every piece and component of the game was accounted for. Great place to shop. I'll be doing some more research on games that were suggested. If I decide on them - I'll buy from Games Unlimited because of the great service. read more
