I would advise anyone to go somewhere else instead to purchase sports cards and sports items.

Note: CASH ONLY! For now, anyway…read more The Bill & Walts Downtown store of yesteryear was certainly superior to this incarnation. Granted they apparently haven't been open long and have some definite bugs that need to be smoked out if they want to rival Eide's, New Dimension Comics, or Phantom of the Attic. The old B&W store never topped Eide's Entertainment in terms of comics, but they at least had a respectable, if not vast inventory, not to mention model rockets, trains, and related items on the ground floor (comics and games were in the basement). This latest version of the long-running shop is merely two unkempt, poorly lit rooms featuring nothing but comics and gaming merchandise. Their comics selection is limited to new releases and older issues that go back no further in time than the 1980's. Also, the back issues I did see were packed way too tightly into the dirty, worn longboxes, had no backing boards in them, were in dusty, moldy polybags, and were low-grade condition-wise. None of the issues I saw were high-demand or premium either. Nor were they graded. New comics and recent back issues were stacked in baskets that lined the walls, meaning you had to awkardly lift them out one-by-one to see which issues were underneath the ones you didn't want. One plus about the new B&W is that they run specials on recent back issues that can get you 50 comics for $30 in a bagged set. New Dimension does this, and I wish Eide's and Phantom's would follow suit. Unfortunately, you can't open the bags to see all the issues that are in the sets, and there's nothing telling you what all you're getting (ND will list what's in each set on the pricetag). I'm hoping B&W improves since we could always use another comics shop in Pittsburgh, particularly Downtown, but based on my experience, I have a feeling they aren't long for this city. When the gentleman minding the store was too busy phoning a friend to answer a question I had, it left me with little desire to return. P.S. Kay found a bushel of Hellraiser comics that she wanted to purchase at a bargain of a price, but being that B&W only accepts cash, she had to put them down and buy them elsewhere (Eide's!). Way to lose out on some commerce, guys.

I've grown to like Legions over the past few years. I'm by no means a regular, but I do stop in at…read moreleast once or twice a month to play games. Legions is located on the lower level of a strip mall; it's location actually lets it sprawl a bit, so there's a lot of room there. The topside entrance cuts immediately to a giant stairwell that also has a spiraling ramp and elevator that lead to the retail/game space. (As of my writing this review, I think only the ramp is serviceable.) I mention this because the weird, off-kilter tone of the entrance carries over to the retail/gaming space: there are weird passages that wind around, the storage space also doubles as gaming areas, and there are lots of odd steps leading to platforms and balconies. As other reviewers have noted, the place is dark and dank, but that's mainly because it's in a basement. The men's bathroom is also moderately gross, though it seems like the staff at least try to keep it clean. As I've mentioned before, there's a lot of space here--about half of it is dedicated to miniature gaming, and at any given time you'll find folks playing Warhammer or Flames of War or something else (I'm not a miniatures gamer, otherwise I'd be more specific!). There're also a ton of folks playing Magic (or other CCGs and LCGs) during business hours. If you want to play some sort of pick-up game, chances are there will be a table or two for you (even if it is tucked away in a back corner). I usually go to play RPGs and there's always room. There is a lot of merchandise at Legions. The focus is on miniatures and CCGs, but also a fair number of board games (and expansions), and some RPG books. Which makes sense--most of the regulars spend money on the former, hence the shelf space. I mainly shop for board games there; it's hard for game stores to beat online prices, but Legions at least gives some discount from MSRP on products. There have been a few cases where I got an item for the same or less than Amazon. The folks working there are often friendly, but it depends on who you talk to. Regulars are almost always gathered around the register, and you can hear lively banter from time to time. Sometimes it's *really* lively--I tend to think good employees are careful about their word choice, and I've been surprised at some of the language employees have used in front of kids under the age of 5. But these cases were infrequent. Some of the staff are really friendly and knowledgeable, and are quick to greet you and offer help when you step in. Others just goof off on the computer their whole shift. I also feel like there is a general stigma against people who aren't dumping their entire paycheck on miniatures. I've try to buy stuff every visit (yes, something more expensive than a drink), but I tend to get scowls from the regulars and some of the staff. Oh well--the friendly employees are cool enough to make up for it! Overall, while the place isn't perfect I still dig it quite a bit.

Started off very confused even after reading the reviews on how to access the business. The ramp…read moredown to the lower level was pretty steep, winding, and dimly lit. Went in looking for some board or card games, and they had a small section with a bit of variety. I feel there has to be more welcoming and inviting options out there.

A small hobby shop just outside the heart of Robinson…read more Mostly focuses on collectible trading card games but offers some books (trade paper backs, manga, mostly silver age coward comics), hero-clix, D&D accessories, and other collectibles like pop-funko. The store seems to always be going though an identify crisis, which often seems to hinder the growth that should have happened already. That always disappoints me as I really think that there is a solid core to this store. The owner, while not always business savvy, is one of the nicest, most genuine people you'll ever meet. Always jovial, kind, and will go out of your way to do something for you, but this seems to always lead to the guy being taken advantage of. The selection overall seems to be pretty average. Not a fan of the cards NOT being displayed in the display cases, but the kiosk in the front of the store will be satisfactory for now. I would really like them to bring back the binders and for them to utilize the display cases again in the future. It is also painfully apparent that they've outgrown the current store quite a while ago. I do surely hope they're able to move into a larger store in the near future. Overall it could be a lot worse. The store has the privilege of being in Robinson, but doesn't seem to always utilize the position they're in. I hope they can expand in the future so that I may update the stores progress then.
