Pretty happy with this location. I was in and out under five minutes because I ordered online. I personally wouldn't consider this my go to gamestop because one person work the register. There were so many children running around. Other than that they had a ton of merchandise on sale for 30% off or less. I was tempted to get the Zelda Christmas tree topper because it was like $17! Traveled out of my way after a long day to pick up a game I placed online for pick up, just for the door to say "sorry we had to step out, be back in an hour" from 4:20pm-5:20pm. Disorganized, no one ever answers the phone. I've been at the store browsing when no one was on line and they just let the phones ring. They also open and close when they feel like it. Whenever you order a game on their website for delivery from the store or pick up from the store, they charge you but don't process the order. I do not recommend this store, they pretty much scam you into getting a console by making you join some pro membership to purchase it. Like why the hell would you need to join a membership to purchase this switch, it also a problem with service seeing as they don't even answer the phone at all. These people leave you on hold for hours and let's say you want to return a game that not damaged what so ever and even had the recent, my dad got me the wrong game and I did indeed open it and used the code but why the hell would the new Mario sparks game went from 50 to 15 to something dollars? Surprised to see so many negative reviews. Actually I shouldn't be. This is a Game Stop in Astoria on Steinway Street. I would imagine the amount of freaks the staff must have to deal with on any given day goes well above and beyond the bell curve of retail hell...I've actually been shopping at this location for fifteen years now and I've never had a bad experience. Anyway my PS4 died a few days ago. Thought it was going to be a hellish game of waiting to get a new one given current covid conditions but lo and behold they happened to have a new slimline in stock. They couldn't have made it easier. I don't mind ordering things online but I hesitate at any kind of tech like a game console or a laptop. Too much margin for error and stress. Second time comes for Pokemon Platinum DS website says "AVAILABLE for Pickup!" I drove another 5 miles to find out "No, we don't have that. It's just the system being an error" CAN YOU FIX YOUR GODDAMN SYSTEM SO CUSTMERS DONT COME TWICE PAY TAX AND TOLL AND THEN GOES HOME WITH NOTHING??!? IM SO REASSURED THIS IS THE PROFESSIONALISM OF A OVERCHARGING GAME STORE. I only lost $20 for traveling expenses and walked away with grade A frustration. BEWARE- When I was checking out, the employee added GameStop's worthless "warranty" to my order without me asking and tried to sneak it by me-- if I wasn't perceptive, I wouldn't have noticed and would have been out that money. I am sorry to see that there have been some customers who've had bad experiences with these guys; I haven't bought a game console since the early 90s, and when I went in the other day, I was helped by a guy named Carlos, who was just terrific. Though he was more of an Xbox guy, he had a commanding knowledge of the PS3, which I was there to purchase. He really went the extra mile with me and was appreciative of my time, patient with my stupid questions, and though he was quite young and bore all the usual trappings of his age, it didn't negatively impact his attitude at all. That alone was refreshing. I went in again two days later and dealt with another guy, Jefferson, who was every bit as polite, helpful, and seemed like he actually gave a damn. read more

I hate this Gamestop with a passion. The store is large and getting help from the employees is like pulling stubborn teeth. The employees are complete douche bags and think they own the games. They have many games in stock for different gaming consoles and PC but really, is it necessary to give an attitude to someone who is spending over $300? I was the one spending over $300 and when the guy yanked the money out of my hand, I yanked it back and told him to check his attitude and he isn't worth me giving money under his name. Walked into this store to buy a game that was released on Tuesday and was told that because I didn't preorder the game they didn't have a copy to sell me. Pro: Really large store. There are approximately a billion gamestops scattered across our series of islands (the next one to this location being 2 blocks away...) Most are kinda small with a very limited selection. This one has lots. Con: If you need help, forget it. Only go if you know exactly what you want, or are able to help yourself find what you want/need/are interested in. Whenever I've had to ask a question I've had to wait for a good few minutes to get the one guy who can help me because the other guy is busy doing something else. Look. I've worked retail. I know it can be a pain in the ass to help someone when you clearly have a ton of work to get done. That said, I always have to suck it up and help the damned customer. Ignoring isn't an option. If there are a bunch of employees available, fine do what you're doing, but if I'm standing there waiting for a small eternity for the poor soul swamped with customers, and I KNOW you know I'm standing there, HELP ME!! I reserved a game system via the Gamestop website, and came to the store to pick up after having been notified via email that the item was ready for pickup. After waiting on line for 45 minutes, I was very dismissively told that neither the game system, nor the game I had picked out, could be found. The associate, Jaylen, spent approximately 30 seconds looking, the suggested I go to the back of the line and find something else. When I informed him I was not going to the back of the line, his best solution was to offer me a significantly lesser package "for the same price." Having little choice (it was xmas eve), I had to settle for this "offer." Jaylen was also visibly agitated when I refused to purchase additional warranties. To add insult to injury, Gamestop customer service is of little assistance. I'm currently number 183 in the queue after holding for 39 minutes. read more

Victor, Darien and Kenny are great ! Really helpful knowledgeable and they always remind you to reserve your copy of upcoming games. These guys are always helpful if you need to make a big purchase and they'll know exactly what you need , also when you're trading games. Victor is really helpful he loves to answer every annoying question. I love this place where a kid can be a kid always friendly service very knowledgeable of all games and I just picked up the new God of War. read more

I am not really a crazy gamer, but my boyfriend likes to stop in here when we are in the area and check out what games are on sale. I think he secretly hopes to get a really good deal on a game, which really doesn't ever happen. I don't mind taking a look around for a bit. This store is usually understaffed and there isn't an associate working the sales floor, only behind the cash wrap. If you need something, you have to wait on line to get any attention...even to ask a question. If you are purchasing and waiting for questions and concerns to be accommodated this can be frustrating. Disorganized. Don't be surprised when an associate tells you they may have something available in the back stock for you, but they can't retrieve or check on it for you because there is no other staff. An invitation to come back later and ask again after someone else comes in, say after 1pm, isn't my favorite form of customer service. The guy at the counter angel was a complete asshole. This GameStop location had boxes out for the Nintendo switch that wasn't even available. Boxes should not be out if it's not for purchase. When my husband asked if it was available he said no and mumbled piece of shit to my husband. There is no reasonable reason to be treating customers like that. We have gone to that GameStop many times and will no be returning due to his horrible experience. Easily some of the rudest and lowest class employees I have ever dealt with in regards to a retail store for a company this size. I've never had any problem with warranties or any of this other stuff from the numerous one star reviews for this location, because I honestly have never gotten to the point of actually purchasing something here. I've never seen more than 3 or 4 other customers in the store, but on more than one occasion, just nicely asking if an item was in stock was enough to get a stare down and hostile, single word responses from one of the rude employees. Another time I walked up 10 minutes before they closed to buy something, and they had decided it was time to close early at some point before I arrived, and I got a nasty comment from the employee locking the door. I get it, working retail sucks. I know, because I did it for years in the past, and I know what a pain in the ass it can be to deal with customers, especially since they can be rude and demanding. I've always gone in here with a smile on my face and money in my pocket, but leave empty handed and feeling like a fool. Never again. read more

Oh, and yes, you will have to walk in since their employees refuse to answer the phone and if they don't answer, their system hangs up on you! Yes, hangs up on you, who thought that was a good idea?! In my most recent dealings with them, my boyfriend and I went to pick up Smash Ultimate, which we had preordered and found out that the GameCube controller adapter was released a week earlier and even though we had preordered that as well (and were charged $5) we were never told we had to pick it up before Ultimate, so they sold it to someone else. All without calling us to let us know, even though we gave them our phone number with the preorder. They also never know when anything will be back in stock, so good luck trying to figure that out. I never have a bad experience and everyone is cool and respectable and though there is a bit of a wait you're never disappointed. Big store a lot of selections and of course with it being right by schools and other shops and apartments you will get a lot of people daily so its fun to know what times to go and what times not to go :). read more
