I'm visiting from Hawaii, and there are no stores like it besides thrift shops and buy/sell bookstores where you only hope someone donates or sells their games, which is very rare, and also hope they're not incredibly overpriced, which is often. I found Gamedeals and Press Start. I went to Gamedeals first, and it's in the same area as Press Start in New Westminster. I wish I can to Press Start first! It's a small store and messily organized because it's jam packed with everything retro. I was just interested in NES games. Their quantity isn't much, but their prices are a lot better than the other store. They also have more rare games, but they were still overpriced, just not as much. The person who helped me was very friendly and helpful. He's genuinely into this stuff and it clearly shows! I grabbed another load of NES games even though I said I wouldn't because I still had to carefully pack it away in my luggage. Next trip, I'll just bring an empty suitcase with bubble wrap! Overall, I wish there were more stores and people who sell retro games fairly and reasonably because the people buying are collectors too and look to just collect. Most people just price gouge like crazy just looking for the uninformed customers. I'm glad Press Start Video Games doesn't do that. All their games are guaranteed with a 14 day return policy (much better than 7 days at other stores). Just a great store! Reminded me of a video game store in Kaimuki I went to every Saturday when I was a kid. I regret not buying more NES games at that time!

I'm visiting from Hawaii, and there are ZERO stores selling retro video games besides the thrift shops and buy/sell bookstores where you only hope someone donates or sells their games, which is very rare, and hope they're not incredibly overpriced, which is often. Nintendo NES games is what I'm collecting at the moment. I had a pretty big collection when I was a kid, and recently felt like expanding it. Luckily, Vancouver has a couple of these stores, and Gamedeals Video Games has TONS of NES games!!! Getting to this store located in New Westminster from Downtown Vancouver was a journey, but worth it. Coming into this store brought back so many memories when I used to go to video game stores almost every week 20 years ago. It was pretty much the exact same thing! Not only was there video games, there were also toys, board games, and other awesome things. Everything was very organized by section and in alphabetical order. I spent a good hour here just browsing and selecting my games. For the NES games, they were only loose games or with the box. No dust sleeves or instruction booklets for the loose games for some reason. It was hard not to buy every game that I don't have, but I only bought the ones that were priced below market value and in good condition. In the end, I came out with 8 games. I definitely would've bought more if I stayed longer! But I need to safely bring them all home! I was looking for rare games, which they had a few, but way, way, overpriced. Overall, a nice, nostalgic experience. An excellent store with games and accessories for every game console since the Atari. The staff wasn't exactly the friendly, talkative, super nerdy bunch, but friendly enough. I felt I got a decent deal for my games. Definitely happy! Hopefully they all work cause returning them would be a little troublesome.

I didn't realize this place got slammed with one-star reviews on Yelp until after the visit. To be honest, I had rock-bottom expectations of the place. Where I'm from (California), I don't get too many decent experiences at the few local game shops I (seldom) visit, and I'm not talking about those mediocre GameStop or EB Games stores either, those are all from another realm of retail misery altogether. I was considering to get a complete copy of Sonic 3D Blast for Sega Saturn in very good condition, but in the end I didn't think shelling out $34.95 CAD was that sensible (because its Sonic 3D Blast, not just in general; I didn't come to Vancouver to buy a game anyhow, lol.), although other complete copies go for around the same amount on eBay US as of the time of this review. The friendly, laidback owner Eddie was cool about it after I voiced my reconsideration. I haven't looked into CDs and DVDs so I can't comment on them. I deducted one star from this review because of the prices, but I admired the owner and his selection and how decorative his store is with all the retro games there. I told him I'd be back, and I would someday.

The guy working there should really UP his Customer Service Game. He should be more friendly and helpful and I'm sure he would get more sales. What I really didn't like was that the trading cards my husband looked through for close to an hour were all individually priced. When he was about to take them up to pay for them, he was informed that the prices on the cards were not the prices, and that he would have to "look them all up" Are you kidding me ? #1 If items are priced- that should be the price you pay. PERIOD #2 If this is your policy - have a sign or take the price tags off. This really pissed me off since there were literally hundreds of cards that had prices on them ! #3 Price the cards before they are put out on the floor & people look at them ! #4 Tell the person looking BEFORE they spend an hour wasting their time !! So, this guy was planning on raising prices as we were about to pay - I don't think that is fair business practices! My husband was planning on spending a few hundred dollars - but after this we left without buying anything. This place could be so much better if changes were put in place. Sadly we won't know if this will happen because we won't be coming back.
