Before going I checked out the menu on their website and was a bit surprised by the prices, which are quite expensive for what at the end of the day is a pub in North Wales. I'd more or less decided in advance to go for the Welsh steak & ale pie which at £12.95 was just about a fiver more expensive than the steak & ale pie on offer at my more familiar haunt, the Afon Conwy which is just a few miles away. I was hoping for a very special pie! First things first the pub has a large car park so parking was no problem. The interior is very nicely done albeit in a fairly predictable gastropub decor. The dining area lives up to the venue's name with several tables along the side of the building offering views of Conwy Castle just over the water. The staff were friendly and efficient although there weren't many other customers to keep them occupied so they weren't anywhere close to being kept busy. Foodwise I went with the steak and ale pie which was fortunately very good and very well presented. My wife had a Caesar salad which was also excellent. The kids opted for chicken goujons and fish and chips from the kids menu, which at £7.25 each were two of the priciest kids meals we've encountered in this part of the world. Again though they were excellent, the goujon meal came with the two biggest goujons I've ever seen and the fish was a generous portion. The best compliment I give though is that both plates were cleared, something that doesn't always happen with my kids. As always there had to be someone who ordered something I ended up wishing I'd ordered and in this case it was father-in-law whose beer battered cod turned out to be a huge piece of fish which looked to be have been perfectly cooked. As this is one of the cheapest meals on the main menu I think if I ever go back that might be the one to try. All in all the food, and accompanying drinks, were all excellent and every plate was cleared. It's just a shame it's so expensive in comparison to other places in the area. It was noticeable that the place was very quiet when we visited, in fact it was almost deserted apart from the staff. It's a real shame given the quality on offer and I was left wondering if maybe they'd get more business if they knocked a quid or two off the prices? Certainly I'd more inclined to revisit if this were the case.

However it does lack some of the old atmosphere. The Food here is excellent, a good choice of traditional pub grub and more elaborate dishes. The prices are good value and the portions are big. The Sweets are delicious, you must make room for one!! It has a nice seating are outside with stunning views over to Conwy castle, hence the name!

We strolled on over and were seated right away. I believe we only saw a small portion of the dining area and not the whole restaurant. We were seated in a very cozy area that looked like it had once been a living room. There was a big stone fireplace with a wood stove in it, and a couple small tables with seating around them. There was also a bar in the area where we ate, which was handy since we both enjoyed drinks with our meal. For our entrees, I went with the cottage pie, and my wife selected the Creamy Chicken, Mushroom, and Tarragon pie. Both were absolutely fantastic. Every single bite was full of flavor and delicious. The staff there were friendly and engaged us in friendly conversation. The restroom was clean and well maintained. I'm thankful for the recommendation we received to eat here, and I would absolutely pass on the recommendation to anyone else who's in the area. After exploring the beautiful Castle Conwy, you should definitely check out the Erskine Arms for a hearty meal.

My wife had a pork dish that was pretty fatty, hence the four stars rather than five this place could really support. The ambience was lovely. There is a hard one can sit in during nice weather. Lastly, and probably only secondary in importance to the quality of the food, is the excellence of the service. We were superbly looked after. Anyways, it was a short walk from our B & B on a little side street, and it's pretty dang cute. Since we're from the US, all of the cottage and pub type architecture is very quaint and a novelty, so I liked it. Apparently it can get pretty busy, but you can always make a reservation. We took a seat at a long wooden table inside, decided what we wanted from the menu, and then went down to the bar to order our dinner and drinks. They do bring the food to you, but you order at the bar. I went with the mushroom ravioli and there were soooo many raviolis! Very tasty, and I love mushrooms, so it worked out well haha. Just a lot of food. If I lived here or visited again, I'd make my way back here again. It's pretty casual but the food was good, they had a decent selection of alcohol, and like I said, it's a cute building.

We booked with it being Saturday night and along with a couple of pints from their range of 5 guest cask ales, chose the lasagne and pork loin for dinner. The food menu is traditional British pub food, but we had heard from friends who'd visited previously that all the food is made from the freshest ingredients and of great quality so it was quite hard making our decision as everything sounded so tasty. We made a great choice as both our meals were excellent and just about squeezed in a piece of sticky toffee pudding in (I could have squeezed 2 pieces in it was that good...) but just be aware that the kitchen stops serving food at 9pm so make sure you leave yourself time to order it from the bar if you have a sweet tooth! Highly recommended; It's the first place I'll go back to next time I'm in Llandudno.

Despite the bar being fairly busy the food arrived within ten minutes. Betws attracts lots of climbers and ramblers and clearly the portions are designed for people looking to refuel. Not only was the quality excellent, containing lots of chunks of chicken, but I got more than enough of it. If you're after a good feed, a nice drink and fast and efficient service then this is the place to go.
