There are a few pubs surrounding the market place that gives the city this reputation, but one pub that's the exception is the Albert Inn on Segontium Terrace. I live on the same street and have been into this pub more than any other in the city, and walked past it most nights as well, and my opinion of the pub is that it's an old-fashioned quiet but friendly little pub that's full of character. The pub is old-fashioned in style but nicely decorated - with wooden floors and beams and wooden tables and chairs and bar. There's a pool table that takes up one half of the front of the pub, and a cosy area in front of a real fire in the other half. The bar itself is towards the back, along with some more seating. There's a variety of drinks available and prices are reasonable. There's a smoking area outside the back door which is excellent as it means there isn't anybody stood outside the front door smoking - I think even the nicest of pubs are affected by this image. Despite being English, I've never felt threatened in here and the regulars are all really friendly and chatty towards me.

I came with a group of 10 women and we were after a relaxing drink and hopeful of a decent evening meal. The pub is very traditional 80s/90s on the outside and inside. We arrived and started to move tables together but one of the waiters came up and said he'd arrange us a table in the back in the the restaurant area. We were interested by the menu offering traditional Welsh and Indian food. 9 out 10 of us went for the Indian option and we had a long wait of close to an hour. However we hadn't all realised that the food was being prepared from scratch (which some of the girls pointed out it did say in the menu and some of us missed!). When the food came out all was forgiven as it was delicious. I got a chicken spinach balti which was great and shared pilau rice and a lovely honey flavoured peshwari naan. Really tasty stuff. Everyone seemed really happy with their choices too. Including the 1 person who got fish and chips, she said it was really good with fresh fish and proper batter. I was glad about this as it would be pretty unforgivable to serve processed frozen stuff so close to the sea. The prices were good too with the newer menu actually having cheaper, and possibly more realistic, prices! My balti was £6.50 (reduced from £10.50) and peshwari naan and pilau rice were £5 for both. I got a mixed berry Kopperburg cider for £3.25 from the bar. The staff were helpful. In short, I'd definitely come back if I'm back in the area.

I wouldn't even know the place existed if it weren't for word of mouth, the place is hidden away off the main road! Considering that I've never seen them advertise, and passing trade must be at a minimum, the place must rely solely on recommendations for happy customers - of which they are sure to have many. I'm a repeat customer usually going for evening meals. Only once have I been disappointed with the quality of the meal, and that happened to be a Sunday afternoon. If you would like a truly delicious evening meal it's very much the place to go, the daytime/weekend staff might not be up to scratch, or perhaps, it was just an off-day. The food isn't cheap, but neither is it outrageously expensive. You pay a few quid more than some alternatives, sure, but you get good value for money.

We saw the bartender (whom I didn't catch his name) & we had a couple of questions but he kindly answered each & every one of them. Having two vegans from my party & myself being vegetarian, the chef & bartender were helpful in providing us their options. Once we placed our order my sister brought to my attention that they open at 12 though we were inside at 11:50. It was so kind of the two gents to help us & provide us with extremely great service. The food was simple yet hot & delicious; vegan/vegetarian all day breakfast.

There are birds to be seen such as wading birds, curlew and oystercatchers. Been here a year ago in August. I can recommend it in the evening for a quiet picnic.
