A really pleasant surprise…read more I stayed in the little village of Bethel over the Easter weekend and this is the village pub. I came with a group of 10 women and we were after a relaxing drink and hopeful of a decent evening meal. The pub is very traditional 80s/90s on the outside and inside. We arrived and started to move tables together but one of the waiters came up and said he'd arrange us a table in the back in the the restaurant area. We were interested by the menu offering traditional Welsh and Indian food. 9 out 10 of us went for the Indian option and we had a long wait of close to an hour. However we hadn't all realised that the food was being prepared from scratch (which some of the girls pointed out it did say in the menu and some of us missed!). When the food came out all was forgiven as it was delicious. I got a chicken spinach balti which was great and shared pilau rice and a lovely honey flavoured peshwari naan. Really tasty stuff. Everyone seemed really happy with their choices too. Including the 1 person who got fish and chips, she said it was really good with fresh fish and proper batter. I was glad about this as it would be pretty unforgivable to serve processed frozen stuff so close to the sea. The prices were good too with the newer menu actually having cheaper, and possibly more realistic, prices! My balti was £6.50 (reduced from £10.50) and peshwari naan and pilau rice were £5 for both. I got a mixed berry Kopperburg cider for £3.25 from the bar. The staff were helpful. In short, I'd definitely come back if I'm back in the area.

I've never been there late in the evening drinking, only ever visited the Vaynol for food. I wouldn't even know the place existed if it weren't for word of mouth, the place is hidden away off the main road! Considering that I've never seen them advertise, and passing trade must be at a minimum, the place must rely solely on recommendations for happy customers - of which they are sure to have many. I'm a repeat customer usually going for evening meals. Only once have I been disappointed with the quality of the meal, and that happened to be a Sunday afternoon. If you would like a truly delicious evening meal it's very much the place to go, the daytime/weekend staff might not be up to scratch, or perhaps, it was just an off-day. The food isn't cheap, but neither is it outrageously expensive. You pay a few quid more than some alternatives, sure, but you get good value for money.

The staff is very friendly and helpful. Children are welcome. According to the prices I would say the Vaynol Arms is affordable. Whenever I get back to Tregarth I will truly have a meal at this nice place

BOOK AHEAD TO AVOID DISAPPOINTMENT!…read more Right this place is a bugger to find, and when you do you might think ''What... I came all this way for this?'' Situated near the water is this little welsh pub that serves food 12 -2.15 and reopens for 6.30pm. I have been coming here for years and its NEVER let me down. Inside reminds me of my late nans room, pokey and full of brass-ware .. at the far back of the pub lies a more refined dining area with white table cloths. You can sit either in the pub to soak some local welsh atmosphere or retreat to the back. Arriving at 12 on the dot, already there were a couple of locals having a pint. The barman greeted us warmly and offered to bring our drinks over while we browsed the menu. Here you can choose from the seafood specials board, lunch and their everyday menu. I highly recommend anything that has fish in it as it is all locally sourced... After much oomming and ahhing I settled on the seafood linguine and my companions had the crab fishcakes. When the food arrived I was happy. The amount of seafood in my dish was incredible. Small and large prawns, salmon, smoked haddock, scallops and mussels all swimming in a sea of fresh homemade pasta... the sauce was a flavoursome creamy white broth which was not too dense. Everything just tasted so fresh , even the crab fish cakes served with homemade chips. By the time we were half way through our meal the place was full..again if you want to come here you must book to save disappointment. The prices are really reasonable too, our meal came to about £40 for the three of us including drinks!. Overall the fact you have to book no matter what day, says it all,,

Both times that we came, the food was bursting with delicious, fresh flavors. The halloumi fries had the squeaky bite they're known for. The fish and chips had a light and crispy batter and flaky fish. The cheese and potato pie was creamy comfort. Both of these dishes were recommended and ordering twice. The steak sandwich was tender and meaty. Desserts were sweet, satisfying, and left us all feeling quite content after the savoriness of our meals. We had the same server both times and she was fantastic! She was friendly and attentive, making sure that we had everything plus any extras that were needed. It's got to be said that the view here is phenomenal! The Corn Mill hangs above the River Dee, which gives spectacular views. The patio area makes one feel like they're floating above the river, while the dining room's spacious windows give a full view. Before you leave, take a little walk outside and head on down to see the mill that gives the restaurant its name.
